Lots of awesome music! Good drink selection. A bit pricey though, and they should remodel the bathroom! Its disgusting!

The Dirty Dog is the Best metal bar in the Austin area. Several live shows weekly ranging from bluesy rock to extreme metal. Very laid back atmosphere. Bouncers are great, and very friendly. They take care of any potential issues, and care about the safety of the customers, especially the huge Zakk Wylde lookalike dude. Drinks are on par with the 6th street area meaning they not the cheapest, but not astronomical. Though the metal scene in Austin isn’t huge, the Dirty Dog Bar is a breath of fresh air in the utter weirdness of all the hippies in the area. Keep rocking.

Went here for the first time last night to see Aborted and Archspire… HOLYSHITBALLS! This place is metal as fuck. I love the«dive» atmosphere. The venue is very intimate and the summer line ups have me more excited than a chihuahua on speed. Supporting Dirty Dog supports TXDM!!! \m/

I randomly found this bar when exploring around the Dirty 6. This bar kicks ass unlike those lounges and nightclubs on 6th St. where all the young techie and college douche bags hang out. The venue is pretty big, and there were no cover charge, well I went there on a perfect Friday night. I forget the band’s name but they performed really good. I know someone who plays in a punk rock band so I told him about this venue that his band should play if they ever have a chance to roadtrip over to Austin.

Came here on our trip through Austin. Walking down the main street we decided to pop into dirty dogs bar. It was a Sunday afternoon and not very crowded as the football games we’re going on. Looking around(just like the other bars on the street) it’s almost like a playground for adults. You can see different sections of this space for different things. Second bar in the back along with what looks like a DJ Ing station. A couple of the view game stations along the side of the wall. About eight large-screen TVs to watch sports. Open window veranda viewing to see the roadway. The bar tender made us his special drink. Sweet ice tea Deep Eddys, Sprite, sour and lime. If you like sweet it was great! Only a handful of people here while we were here, but even though it was slow we still had a good time. I can only imagine that this place would be off being on a Friday or Saturday night.

I have been too Dirty Dog Bar twice for shows and both times were unpleasant. The door man is very very highly rude and acts tough. I’d rather drive to San Antonio or Houston to another venue to just see the same show. I don’t plan to come back here unless my husband has a show!

Good sound, lights, and bands… and staff for the most part. One big dude who has that look on his face like he hates being anywhere he is at. Rudely tells me to get out of the doorway, then accuses me of lying when he asks where my son’s wristband came from. Apparently the guy at the door put a 21+ wristband on my son. Not my fault, I had no idea what the bands meant or that there were different bands, and for him to accuse me of lying when he asked me where it came from is very uncool. Not to mention the huge knife he pulled out to cut the band off my sons wrist. I will say the rest of the staff and owners, as well as lights, sound, and every single thing else about the venue is spot on amazing. A jewel on 6th for live music. Go there often, always enjoy the experience.

Was visiting Austin(19 – 21SEPT) and decided to hit 6th St that Friday. So my g/f and I were just bar hopping in order to check everything out. Ended up in Dirty Dog at the end of the street. Glad we did. My g/f had never been to a place that is geared towards metal. Tombstone Union was performing when we walked in and she was really liking the female vocalist and sound of the band. So we hung out for a bit and ended up staying for the entire set. I was impressed with the selection of craft beer they had on tap and couldn’t argue with the price of $ 5/pint. Crowd was positive and nobody was trying to mosh with those that didn’t want to. I guess the best way to put it was that people not normally use to this type of crowd and vibe feel safe. So much so that my g/f and I ended up going back to close the night out. The music from the stage is balanced and the bands that night were all good. I’m definitely going to check this place out again, the next time I’m on 6th St.

Why do awesome bands play here? This bar is blatantly misogynistic. The sign is disgusting. I’ll see my metal bands at Red 7/Mohawk until this bar decides to start respecting women. Are other women really OK with disgusting dog balls humping a woman’s leg?

Came here to watch a friend in a band play. Service was really nice. The atmosphere is great, too. I like it when you can grab a table by the windows to watch the folks walk by. Other than that… just another bar on 6th, really. Nothing stands out as particularly bad or good here, which is a positive in my book.

Went here to see a friends country band play. They were really good and the sound was surprisingly really great. If you wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and see a dude with a leather vest, pony tails, mustache with beard, a bandanna, wallet chain and some kind of skull and crossbones on your shirt, this place is for YOU! Go outside, hop on that hog and head over, all your friends are here.

I’ll give it two because it is WHATTHENAMESUGGESTS… but I can’t hang with those restrooms, man. Spacious for seeing acts during SXSW! But don’t drink anything, lest you have to break the seal.

I only stopped into Dirty Dog Bar because it last call ended every where else, but the guys at Dirty Dog allowed us to order a drink as long as we finished before 2am. The space resembles a giant warehouse, which is not bad if you want to two-step or dub-step. However, on the night we were there, it was near empty with no music. I would imagine because they were closing and wanted everyone out of there who wasn’t spending some $$$. Because it was last call, I simply ordered a pint of beer, which they have a decent selection of. Nothing that will blow your mind, but good local craft beer nonetheless. The bartender that evening resembled a biker… a bit scary looking with full grown beard, but one of the nicest bartenders you will ever meet. He was also a UCLA grad, my wife’s alma mater(I am a USC fan), but I didn’t hold that against him. Either way, there are far worse places you can spend at a bar… and despite the overall appearance and feel of Dirty Dog, it was surprisingly a fun bar to end the night on!!!

A-OK is a good description of this place. Its really my kind of place. I love dark, dirty dive bars and they fit the bill perfectly. It is another regular stop for me on my rare trips down to 6th. Always has a band playing, some were good and some sucked but it was always a good time. The bartenders are OK as long as you know what you want and don’t mess with them. You can tell that they have a short fuse but I have never had a bad experience. You can do a lot worse than the Dirty Dog on 6th.

Woooo! Great place for METAL! My 2 buddies and I were in town for the F1 race and we luckily we caught wind of Shadows Falls playing at this place, we stopped by on our way back from the race and we were able to pick up wrist bands to return later. Could not have had a better time!!! My buddies and I are big metal fans so to be able to mingle and take pics with the artist prior to and after their set = AWESOME! For the performance part the venue provided great access to the stage area, let the crowd police it’self with moshing(all were having fun, no attitudes), the sound was well balanced and the layout had areas to take a break from the energy from the stage. Handful of beers later and 2 great music sets we were full of smiles, great time! Strange I thought that at midnight the lights came up, I guess there is a noise ordinance for rock clubs… Oh well, we had our fun, Dirt Dog did us right! Oh, and nice touch to have a poll handy for the girls to show their stuff on! *high fives* :)

It is what it is. I mean, it’s kind of a dark bar with a long bar and some dirty bathrooms. I haven’t experienced the full on band business but I’ve definitely seen some ladies take a twirl or two around the pole. THAT was an eye opener! Bartenders seem nice enoug, maybe a little jaded, but then they have to deal with all the bullshiiiiizz of the dirty dirty sixth street. I’m also not in love with the boob cam. C’est la bar I suppose. Strong drinks, prompt ‘tenders and a spot smack in the middle of 6th — definitely A-OK in my book.

This was our favorite live music spot during our 6th street bar crawl. We spent a good amount of time hanging out here on a Saturday night. I have only patronized this place when there was live music playing, so I cannot speak to how it is otherwise. Great, loud, heavy, live, local music. Our favorite band that night was Drastik. The drinks were affordable and appropriately strong. It’s not fancy, but then it shouldn’t be. It’s just right.
