The sandwiches here are great! No real issues with the food here. The only reason I’m giving it 3 stars as opposed to 4 or 5 is because of the sanitation and staff. I’ve found hair in my sandwich on multiple occasions.(I still eat here though cause the food is good). The bathrooms are in pretty crummy condition and the rest of the place itself just isn’t that nice. My main issue with this place though are the people that work here. Especially the middle aged guy that’s usually taking people’s orders. They are for the most part just unfriendly and even somewhat rude. They always seem stressed or in a bad mood and I often hear them complaining/bitching about stuff while they are in the kitchen. I’ve also hear customers complain before about not receiving an item they ordered or receiving the wrong order and the staff will argue with them saying that attempting to dispute the customer’s claim. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, the customer is always right… These guys take no care or attention to their customers feedback/requests/complaints. I also got charged for ice once… What the heck!

3.5 stars sounds about right. — chicken cheesesteak hoagie w grilled onions on wheat was pretty good(I added mayo and lettuce to cheesesteak). I’ll try the philly next time — Italian sub was okay. I find it weird that the subs here have lettuce on bottom instead of top like in east coast. It didn’t have mayo or oil so I’d recommend asking Apparently they serve breakfast all day and philly egg sandwiches so will have to try that too.

I’ve been to Philadelphia and had their Philly Cheesesteaks, and I can honestly say that the(steak) Philly Cheesesteaks at Delaware Subs can hold its own. It’s certainly the best one I’ve had in Austin. I like that Delaware toasts their buns and also adds grilled mushrooms and onions free of charge. My favorite way to devour their Philly is to add sweet peppers — available for a small extra charge, and totally worth it. I debated between a 3-star and 4-star review for the following reasons: The food consistency is really hit or miss here. On a number of occasions, I’ve been wow’ed by the Philly. It was prepared perfectly. However, on a number of other occasions, the buns come out slightly over-toasted/charred and as other reviewers have mentioned, the onion/mushroom mix comes out black/charred, which really takes away from the taste of the Philly. I’m not sure if this has to do with a(lack of) cleaning or not adding new oil between rounds of grilling mushrooms and onions. The guys who work here are friendly. Pro Tip: Avoid the chicken philly cheesesteak unless you like mostly grilled mushrooms and onions and very little chicken. I’ve had it twice now, and each time, it barely has any chicken. Stick with the original Philly.

I used to live in the neighborhood years ago. There would be a line for lunch every time I was there. I stopped in last week and there was only one other person there. I ordered the chicken cheesesteak sub, that days special and a drink. There are no fountain drinks so I grabbed a bottle of warm RC cola out of the cooler. The sub showed up, not much chicken or peppers on the sub. Nothing like the subs they used to serve. Crossing this one off my list of must go to when in the northwest neighborhood.

Looks kinda sketchy from the outside but coming from the Philadelphia area and even living out here most of the time the best food comes from the worst looking places. The cheesesteak is legit! So good, after 3 years being in Texas it feels like I’m back home!

The Delaware Subs on Mesa Dr. is the best! The guys who work at this location totally rock it out! They are very cool — friendly and always on their game! Check out the Breakfast Philly Cheese sub with an egg! SO good! The other sandwich shops in Austin don’t even come close to Delaware for service and delicious east coast subs!

After all the ups and downs this store has had over the years, I’m happy to say their cheesesteaks and Italian subs are still the best available. Those are two of my favorite sandwiches anywhere and I’ve tried them in many different places in and outside Austin. Delaware is still this best. In fact, I don’t know if you can find a cheesesteak better than Delaware… maybe there are some that are as good, but none better.

Awesome cheese steak. Different then I’m used to but definitely awesome. If I lived closer to this place I would frequent often.

From the Exterior and interior I had no idea what I was getting into. But damn I heard this was the spot to get a cheesesteak! Sure enough It was delivered into my hands and then into my mouth. Deliciously perfectly carmelized onions and melty cheese goodness all on a fresh hoagie roll. This is a hidden gem in Austin to get your Philly on! I will be back again for this beast of a deliocious sammich.

Just like Philadelphia has Pat’s and Geno’s and their respective admirers, Austin has Texadelphia and Delaware for the«Big 2» of cheesesteaks. I went in to the office late this morning and stopped at the Delaware by my house for an early lunch. I went with the chicken cheesesteak for a change. Delaware has two things really going for their cheesesteaks. First, they toast the rolls on the griddle. Second, the cheesesteaks come with mushrooms at no extra charge.(Same for peppers if you want them.) Unlike Texadelphia, though, there aren’t sauces for the subs and chips are extra. All in all, it’s a great option and you can’t go wrong with their cheesesteak. Since I’m a native Texan, I really have no clue on the authenticity of either place, but my suspicion is that Delaware is closer to the«real thing.»

There is one thing and only one thing I like about Delaware Subs… the cold cheese sandwich. I find it really freaking good, but it falls apart all over the place. I get everything on it. Their bottled soda is excellent too. But… The workers always seem like they have no idea what they’re doing. They almost gave my girlfriend an allergic reaction when, on her request, they failed to remove an ingredient she was allergic to. Last time I ordered my sandwich on wheat. Several minutes later I get handed the sandwich and asked«We’re out of wheat, is that okay?» Thank you for asking me that AFTER you made the sandwich. Just a total pain in the neck. They’re rather slow, don’t expect Subway speed here. On this same trip, they insisted the Unilocal coupon would only be accepted if it was printed out. You can’t print a Unilocal coupon… They’ve got old articles praising the chain posted around the restaurant, but it only drives home the sad point that their heyday is past. But that cheese sandwich keeps me coming back.

I came here while in town to grab a quick bite. I ordered a grilled vegetable sandwich but requested no green peppers in it because I can only handle so much before breaking out(since I have an allergy to them) but instead I got one packed with all kinds of peppers, including green. When I took a few bites and realized, my friend offered to trade sandwiches so we did. The next day I called in for a refund request and they said they would get back to me as soon as possible and they are sorry. I never heard back. So, that’s that.

Best Philly Cheesesteak in Austin. Better, in fact, than one I had in Philidelphia at Reading Market last year. Every ingredient in this sandwich is devine. From the toasty bread down to the hot and mild peppers, with onions and catsup laid down magnificently over the beef and cheese… On Thursday’s you can get these on a 2 for one special. Doesn’t need a huge review! It’s that good. I’ve had their Italian Sub as well and they’re great, but nothing in town can touch Delaware Subs in terms of the Philly! Except your mouth, of course… It’s the best! Would be easy to dole out a 5 star review, but hey… It’s just a sammich, right? Right?
