Crossfit ATX is quite a bit different than your typical gym. I used to be a member of lifetime fitness in Austin, which is a huge complex with state of the art athletic equipment. The problem is it was missing the personal help that many people need if you are unsure of what to do. Sure you can get that help is available, but then you end up spending $ 500+ per month. At Crossfit ATX you only go in if there is a class being held. The trainers are knowledgeable and able to answer questions about anything from diet and nutrition, to fitness questions, to shoe selection. The attitude of the other gym members and the staff is always encouraging and positive. The staff here is focused on helping you improve your health and lifestyle. They bring in experts from outside to help and offer several free seminars which are open to the public. If you are thinking about joining check them out crossfit ATX on facebook where they always post about the upcoming free workouts or seminars.

I am a huge fan! It is a fantastic location for me as there just didn’t seem to be good gym options right in my neighborhood. The trainers/coaches are very motivating and fantastic athletes. When joining a gym you want a place where the trainers genuinely care about you … this is definitely found at Crossfit ATX. They are friendly and welcoming which seems to be a theme there because all of the participants are also a blast to work out around/with. It is ALWAYS a tough workout, but the coaches help build you up and never discourage people if they are having a tough time at first. Another bonus is that they have occasional free workouts which do help balance out the cost. In addition to the free workouts, they are always doing events, team building and clinics. Crossfit ATX seems to be growing fast and gaining new equipment all the time … it is a fantastic gym with a «team» feel.

Quick update: I’ve now been doing Crossfit for 2 months. Since then, Crossfit 512 changed it’s name to Crossfit ATX. The gym got LOADS of new equipment and their website is being revamped. The place isn’t any bigger, but they got rid of a bunch of old equipment that was just taking up space and moved a lot of stuff around as well. I’ve checked out three different Crossfit gyms and feel pretty lucky that Crossfit ATX is nearby. This gym is a lot less expensive then Crossfit Central. Also, just found out yesterday that they are getting a rubber floor in by the end of the month! If you’ve never tried Crossfit before, you should call and come in for a free class.

I just had to check out this new box and must say, I dug it. I will forever be a fan of Crossfit Austin, but should you live up north and be itching for some torture and some good times, you must go here! The trainers here are top notch coaches and athletes. They are friendly and welcomed me in like family. I went in on Friday for a free workout. I met Matt and had a really great session. He respected the fact that I was a veteran Crossfitter and«belonged» to another gym, but coached me as his own. Seemed to know exactly what I needed and delivered.(He is also a hell of a DJ — played some perfect workout jams IMO) The gym is built inside a garage which is pretty typical. They are fairly new so they aren’t fully equiped… but in my limited experience, no CF gym ever is. You work with what you got, and these folks have been creative. There is plenty of room to get your sweat on and they also utilze the outside. In addition to a free workout, they also offer free clinics and other events. I personally recommend doing one of their Elements classes before jumping right in — but only you can know what’s best for you. Finally, I am a fan of their facebook page which has a lot of interaction between members and coaches.
