If Atlanta can have a ‘murder Kroger’, we can have a «muder City Market’. Fortunately, this is now something else. I honestly prefer the sister store on Airport. While both are sketchy as hell, the latter has more to offer. That said, their produce is DIRTCHEAP and you can also get some ‘quick sale’ meat at the Airport location. While mentioning both of these things, it’s obviously not going to be a shopping spot for the Whole Foods or Central Market crowd but you can definitely get some good deals if you look close enough. I’m a big fan of store brand basics like canned beans, spices etc. You can save some serious $$$. If you’re looking for free range chicken and grass fed beef, this place will probably cause you to have an anxiety attack all the way back to your Prius.

stopped here a few time when i was in a bind and dont think ill go back. service wasnt very good and neither was the selection. i wasnt impressed and the employees werent very excited to be there, and i know its a lame job but when someone goes through the checkout line you should at least acknowledge their presence.

Great prices on produce although the selection isn’t as large as what you will find at H.E.B. and Randall’s but they have what I need, most of the time. They are not crowded and play easy listening music which is nice after a busy day at the office. The produce is delivered three times a week so it is always fresh. The meat is also delivered three times a week and you can ask for special cuts. The overall grocery items are limited and most are higher than at other grocery stores. I only go there for their produce and meat.

Like my beloved southside City Market #4(Ben White and S. First), this place offers a shopping experience that can only be found somewhere between Mexico and Mayberry. The produce is just fine. Yes, the avocados and apples may be small, but you can get five for two bucks. Sokwityerbitchin.

City Market is not my grocery store of choice. It is not my go-to place for anything I can’t get anywhere else. It is located in one of the most dangerous strip centers in Austin, traffic-wise.(I think the speedsters screeching around the area are mostly people racing to return their overdue DVDs to Blockbuster, but who knows.) And yet, I like City Market. It’s not love, sure, but the produce is always pretty good, the produce selection is way better than at HEB, and CM’s proximity to my house makes it the destination of choice when I need last-minute stir-fry ingredients — or, more importantly, beer. The target audience is mostly the Spanish-speaking population of the surrounding neighborhoods, evidenced by both the presence of Spanish sale and warning signs without their English counterparts, and the prominence of displays of tortillas vs. bread in the store.(FYI, the bread’s hidden over in the far corner next to the chips and the greeting cards.) And, in addition to groceries, they offer cheap toys, shoes, and t-shirts. Just don’t waste your money on their cigarettes — I bought a pack here once in a pinch, and it was almost twice the price I pay at Walgreen’s.

I wish I could give it no stars. I was a grocery store cashier for about 5 years, so I know it’s not that hard to say hello and ring up a customer’s items. I rarely leave Sh*tty Market without being offended by the«service» I received. Don’t all people deserve a clean store, with accurate signage, and courteous employees? I wish this store would close and something better would replace it. I can walk there from my house, but I usually get in the car and drive to another store.
