I really love this place. There is usually a lot of cool art hanging around and they have two HD-TV’s. In the morning I usually get their relatively new Biscuits and Sausage Gravy for $ 1.85. It comes out fast and it’s really good. Mmm Sausage Gravy… But I digress. They also have other breakfast items such as quiche, a breakfast sandwich, different types of muffins and bacon & egg or sausage & egg breakfast tacos. The tacos are good too. For dinner, my wife usually gets one of their salads which always seem to offer a good amount of food. She says they’re very tasty. I typically will get one of their hot sandwiches. Their hot smoked turkey and cheese is my favorite one of those. Recently Chuck’s has been offering a Chicken Fried Steak plate with a side salad, baked potato and tea for $ 9.99 on Saturday’s from 5−8pm. The chicken fried steak is hand made and delicious! It’s totally a great deal and I look forward to Saturday dinner because of it. :-)

The atmosphere is wonderful! Yay for free WiFi! The desserts are very good. The sandwiches however are mediocre. If they improved on their sandwiches, I would say that this place is a real winner!

I have officially boycotted this place. I was really disappointed to do it too. First, let me say that the deli is very nice. Artwork on the walls, a cozy nook with more artwork, free wifi, clean tables, and what seems like a healthy selection of deli fare. HOWEVER, the customer service has been horrible in my three different visits. The people seem nice but their competency, or maybe common sense, is lacking. I once went through their drive through hungry and exhausted looking for a quick and healthy meal… I waited at the drive through for 20 minutes — WTF??? I had paid already and so at some point I wondered if they forgot about me. A small apology and not much else is what I got. Even when I dined in the wait was long, even when there where only a handful of people there. I even had the pick up experience which was a mess — the wrong order and all. Writing this is hard because I gave them so many opportunities to make amends for their poor customer service. After the third visit I could not rationalize going back to a place that would disregard my patronage so easily. It was hard to do because the place could be so perfect but it has yet to live up to expectations. This was no fluke nor am I delusional. Get it together Chuck’s and maybe I’ll come back but in the meantime I am telling friends and neighbors to stay away.

Great little find in far South Austin. We took the kids on a Saturday for lunch and it wasn’t too crowded and the food was delicious. Turkey corn chowder — highly recommend. There is also a ton of local art on the walls, which keeps the kids occupied for a while. And they have a «rhythm circle» every Thursday, which I just like on principle. Great local Austin place. Yay!

I would’ve given you 3 stars Chuck. At least two of your sandwiches are delicious. The tuna salad is not too gooey and generously stuffed between nice thick slices of wheat bread. The grilled chicken w/avocado is also a winner– moist chicken and good, ripe avocado. Salad was fresh and crisp and also yum. But see, today, I stopped in for coffee at 7:20a. You were not open. You’re supposed to be open. I need coffee. I had to go to stupid Starsucks and I would’ve much rather given my money to you Chuck. But you weren’t open. WTF Chuck?

Things I liked: 1. samples of their cookies 2. art on the walls 3. the coffee 4. the close proximity to my parents house Things I didn’t like: 1. Weird service-I ordered an iced hazelnut latte since I was driving to San Antonio and didn’t want to mess with a hot drink. The kid made me a hot regular latte. So I told him I had asked for iced and he proceeded to scoop 3 cubes of ice into my drink which did nothing but make it more watery. Deciding that it was too difficult to argue while toting a 2 year old around I got back in my car. Now I know that I am not coffee snob by any means but I know what hazelnut tastes like and my sort of iced coffee did not taste like hazelnut. Or it was just very, very, very, very, very, very subtle. So I unbuckled the kiddo and went back inside and asked for an iced hazelnut latte. A very gruff ex marine looking man proceeded to remake my drink which was indeed iced but did not taste like hazelnut yet again. I gave up and accepted my fate. Sigh…

A mile from my house. So friendly. Breakfast was good. I’ll be back. Oh, and they have a case full of delicious looking baked goods and samples to try out.. .just for that I’ll be back. I’m curious to hear some of the music that frequents the shop. DOIT! They ARE kid friendly.

I’m still here staring at the various countries captured all over the walls! Not to mention the wall dedicated solely to Audrey Hepburn :) pros– +Nice Staff +Colorful atmosphere +MYHOTSANDWICH: Smoked Turkey, Provolone, Red Onions, Chipotle Spread, Add Avacado, Nah Tomatoes, wheat berry bread. this sandwich ROCKED and not since food heads have i given a sandwich that kind of cred! :) +COOKIE Potato Chip basically a walnut sugar cookie it was BIG and good(crunchy not soft but i like both) but not great +Ok and Talking Heads just started playing STAR! bombs– –CHIPS Ok, the chips they serve need to be Kettle style(CRUNCHY) and more flavor options –Oh yea and the onions were a little long string-wise haha –LOCATION! You know lovely Manchaca rd well its at the SOUTHERNTIP… so ya they need to bring these sandwiches up north. they can leave the chips oh but my sis said the quiche rocked her world a little too…

It’s a nice enough place, but the coffee isn’t very good. I bought an Americano this morning and the guy who pulled my espresso shot didn’t do a very good job. The muffins are pretty good and so is the shop itself. I’m a coffee snob, so they really need to get some FRESH coffee beans and bring in professionals to train their people on the lovely espresso machine they have. The coffee tastes the same as when it was Hill Country Coffee House, which is not a good thing.

My new favorite sandwich shop! I went there on a recommendation from my sister who works in the area and I loved it immediatley. Very friendly staff, food was excellent(you have to try the wheatberry bread) and nice atmosphere. On Fridays there is a piano player and every few weeks they change up the artwork with local artists. I’ve tried several sandwiches over the last few weeks and they are all good(club, tuna and hot turkey on provalone). Their dessert case could do with a little merchandising to better represent the tasty treats and I’d like a few more soup options but overall GREATPLACE… Oh and very clean bathrooms(always a good sign)

I’m dropping them one star, because yesterday my soup was barely warm. Yes, I could have asked them to heat it up but I didn’t. Too engrossed with my work, I guess. Still, the environment was good and the salad was great. Nice people working there too.

This is a surprisingly upscale establishment for this part of town. Behind a simple exterior hides a very nice full service coffee house: breakfast, lunch, desserts and, of course, coffee. It has ample wi-fi, outlets and comfy seating. There is a Chuck. He is on the premises to ensure great service. Highly recommended.

This new little deli opened up about a week ago nearby my house. It took over the same little building that Hill Country Coffee House used to be in before it went out of business. This place is not exactly the best spot for a deli, but it serves the Manchaca/1626 neighborhood people well if they don’t feel like venturing too far from home.(close to Texicana).so yes with it being so close I had to give it a try. I went on the first day and you can tell they are still working on some kinks with the new shop/workers and all… the menu mainly consists of sandwiches(hot and cold), salads, soup, coffee, breakfast tacos, and pastries. Here is what went wrong: 1. Order a Grilled chicken salad — menu said it came with feta cheese, I got cheddar cheese instead 2. Raspberry Vinegarette I got, tasted like oil with an ever so slight hint of raspberry flavor. it needed more zing or maybe they needed to shake the dressing up a bit before serving. 3. Ordered a nonfat latte on ice, I am pretty sure I got a latte with whole milk 4. Significant other got the roast beef w/provolone, he seemed happy Overall the salad was good, but I missed the feta. We went around 2PM on a Saturday and were 1 of 3 parties there. I guess I should have sent the salad back, but I didn’t feel like complaining with it being their first day, plus the fact that it took awhile. I still have high hopes for this place since it could be my convenient little stop so close to home, so I am going to make a couple more visits before making an executive decision on whether or not this place becomes one of my regulars. will update once I do!
