Center For Child Protection

Here’s what non-​offending family members can expect from the Center for Child Protection in Austin, Texas:
You will be taken to a room with two glass walls so that police can observe you with neither your knowledge nor your permission.
The interviewer will get your child to tell them all about the abuse in another room.
The interviewer will return to your observation tank with investigators and make deceptive statements for the sole purpose of judging your reaction. No correction will ever follow.
Expect to be continuously and blatantly gawked at in the most insulting way possible, as if what some abuser choses to do has anything at all to do with you.
The Center Interviewer will tell you that she’s your liaison and then withhold information that you need to help your child in court. She will claim they have a «policy» that they ignore civil subpoenas and will refuse to testify to her knowledge of the case.
Let’s say that your three year-​old child is being molested by her father and she confirms this to 4 different people, including the interviewer. After initially denying that any touching occurred, he realizes 3 weeks later that he has to say something more convincing than that. He sits at his computer and types up a series of fake emails in which he is communicating with you about your child having severe rashes all the time that he has to treat with Desitin because you are negligent. He takes this permission slip to CPS and says, «Oh, I just remembered, I was treating rashes!»
You will not be directly confronted with this information because everyone, including your Center for Child Protection liaison, already fully understands that you have absolutely no idea what he is talking about. This means, obviously, that they all also realize his alibi is completely and provably fabricated.
Then let’s say that your CPS «worker» Danita Mallet and CPS supervisor Carol Morin decide that it would just be easier to make the fake emails disappear and close the case. Even liars don’t like having to lie, especially under oath, but by this point they’ve obstructed justice and do not intend to pay a consequence. Thank goodness for them the New Braunfels Police Department detective is only pretending to investigative.
Two and a half years later, the detective retires to avoid an internal affairs investigation so he can keep his retirement pay. Now my «liaison» at the Center for Child Protection, Meghan Webb, says that her policy is to not talk about the abuse.
I’m sure at the Center for Child Protection they imagine that a code of secrecy somehow protects theoretical children. But if no one is protecting actual children, then whom does their secrecy protect?
