Knowing nothing about Camp Indigo, I decided to volunteer based on the amazing people involved at the Amala Foundation. I went with an open mind and no expectations and left a week later with an open heart, mentally, physically and spiritually full of compassion and appreciation. I wanted to be the mentor and leader that wasn’t in my childhood, and ended up being a student myself. I learned so much more than I could have imagined: from the pure joy and individuality of the children, to the inspiring leadership and compassion of the adults. The way everyone, especially the kids, matured, overcame obstacles and grew into themselves in just a few days at camp was truly life-changing.
