I’ve been to this café several times — so this isn’t a flippant review. Everytime I have been for lunch has been with colleagues. We have ventured in with the intent of relaxing. Not only were we met by a rude staff, but the food is a huge disappointment. I work not far from here, and am continually on the lookout for places like this, but when the sandwiches are continually soggy, service is slow and rude — its a huge let down. I really don’t see how they are continuing to survive. If you do plan on trying this out — be careful — soggy sandwiches are no good.

Camille’s is closed. Well, actually, the national chain went out of business, so our local café at Arbor Walk decided to change its name and go independent. The temporary sign above the door now reads, «Green Piece Café & Art,» but my receipt said«Soya Isis Café & Culture,» so I can’t be sure what it’s called now. What I can tell you is that OMG, I just ate one of the best bowls of non-seafood gumbo that I’ve ever had outside of my own kitchen(which is where the best gumbo on earth outside of NOLA is made). Holy moly! I was NOT expecting to find good gumbo in this place. I just happened to be shopping nearby, realized I had missed lunch, and dropped in to grab a quick sandwich. The daily special is ½ a sandwich and your choice of soup du jour or salad for $ 7.99. I got the ½ club(for an additional $ 1) on white and a cup of chicken gumbo. I figured it would probably be some watered down, slightly Cajun flavored soup that bore no resemblance to actual gumbo, but at least it would be lighter than the other option — loaded baked potato soup. Of course, as soon as my meal arrived at the table, I could see that the contents of the soup bowl bore a remarkable likeness to real gumbo: dark, brown, thick stew with big chunks of chicken & andouille sausage, okra, peppers, etc. I had to taste that stuff straight away — oh, heavens! Don’t you just love a pleasant surprise? That first spoonful was so dang delicious, I just kept eating until the bowl was empty, my poor sandwich sitting there with an accusatory frowny face that whined, «Hey, what about me? Sniff, sniff. I want to go to the party in your tummy, too.» The club(with ham, bacon, turkey, swiss, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and bacon-tomato dressing) wasn’t bad, either, although a tad dry in the first few bites until I reached the mayo & dressing. Even the white bread was quite hearty and tasty. The décor & menu board is still what was there before from Camille’s. As described in the other Unilocal,it’s basically a salad & sandwich joint, with pizzas, smoothies, and a few different kinds of coffee over at the serve-yourself beverage station. World beats play over the sound system. They do provide free wi-fi, and the place had plenty of empty tables at 1:30p on a Monday. I can’t speak for the quality of anything else on the menu. Just call ahead and ask, «Are you serving gumbo today?» If they say yes, get yourself over there and have a bowl.

Camilles is delicious. I tend to only go here for lunch. I dont think that I would go here for dinner. The menu offers a variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizzas, soups and desserts. The breads are baked on site and the Marble Rye is DAMN good. Sandwiches are served with fruit or chips and salsa and are a decent size for the price. I havent tried too many other things but I have had the chicken salad and it is delicious, the Camille’s Club, and the Tuna Salad are all great. I like this place to meet someone for a good lunch and conversation. I often meet my Grandmother there as she loves this palce. It is easy, fast, affordable, and great tasting. I dig! Oh and they sometimes have White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cherry Cookies. OMG. Fantastic!

Bleh… this is Jason’s Deli for chicks. Their sandwich menu isn’t that great, and the serving of chips and salsa that comes with their sandwiches is paltry. Their food is bland beyond belief… or is bland the new organic in Austin?

This is a great place. I love the greek pizza, and most of the wraps and sandwiches. Been a while since I was last there, as it is very up north for me, but good place. Great atmosphere.

I was driving down MoPac(don’t all Austin stories start like that?) and saw the sign — Camille’s Sidewalk Café. Didn’t get a good look, but I conjoured up a quaint French bistro with great people watching — c’est magnifique! So I exited the hwy and went for it. First off, there was no sidewalk to speak of at Camille’s Sidewalk Café, unless you count the walking area in between the store and the strip mall parking lot. Instead of people watching, you get a view of Le Firm du Matelas(aka The Mattress Firm). I ordered a Nouveau Natu-Wrap. I’m not sure what makes it Nouveau, maybe because the gross tortilla it was wrapped in was made at the turn of the 20th century. But then that doesn’t explain the 21st century big gulp-sized styrofoam cup they serve coffee in. Nor does it explain why this«Natu-Wrap» was served with over salted tortilla chips. And who knows what the hell a Natu is. Well, I wasn’t about to fill up my big gulp cup with coffee, so I decided to get some tea, which comes out of some machine. I stood in front of it with some lady just confused as I, looking at it trying to figure out which button was the tea, or if it even dispensed tea at all. There’s no labels! What flavors are there? Should we just start sampling? Long story short, I left this place with more questions than answers, such as: Why the hell didn’t I just go to Le Madeline?

I went here with 3 other people to chill and have a cup of coffee. All four of us got quite different things and none of us liked any of them. They just don’t know how to make coffee drinks. In all fairness, we didn’t have anything to eat there, so their food may be good.

New café spot in the Arbor Walk shopping center on N. MoPac. Camille’s is a national chain(with 100 locations in 35 states) and boasts a menu of freshly made salads, gourmet wraps and sandwiches, fruit smoothies, desserts and coffees. This location is clean and well lit, and the service is friendly and quick. I tried a «Michelangelo» grilled hot-wrap — which is chicken, cheese and peppers on a herb-garlic tortilla. The wrap looked disappointingly small when it came out, but since it came with a mixed field greens salad, the whole meal actually did fill me up. The wrap was tasty, but did not knock my socks off(even tho I wasn’t wearing any). The herb tortilla flavor kinda overpowered the chicken. My lunch buddy tried the Apple-Walnut Tuna salad sandwich. I tried a couple bites and it was pretty tasty — the bread was very nice. So yeah… food is decent, freshly made and seemingly healthier than typical strip-mall food options. Also of note — they provide catering with sandwich trays, box lunches, dessert trays and that sort of thing. Handy for those lunch meetings perhaps?
