My husband and I came to this location on 290 right next to a packed waffle house.(Yes I was craving a waffle house since I used to live near one in Dallas but they’re barely scattered around Austin) Anyway I have to wonder why it was so empty on a Sunday during lunch time while the area gets good moderate traffic flow. Oh well, the hubs and I got our food fast enough, we ordered a regular plate with sausage that comes with three sides, a quarter pound brisket, and fried chicken with fries. The three sides I got? Green beans, Spanish rice and a potato salad. The brisket and sausage were good, though I prefer Rudy’s barbeque sauce I was able to eat the Spanish rice to offset how tangy the sauce was, but the brisket was delicious and tender. My husband really liked the chicken though I thought it was kinda dry. My green beans were soggy and I used the potato salad to dip my fries in.(Yeah, potato on potato can work) Other than the food a small crowd started gathering after we did, though I sort of felt a luby’s vibe.(Hint hint) The bathroom was really clean so that was a surprise for me. All in all I wouldn’t completely knock the place, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here unless I miss my waffle fix again.

Ok an update from my last visit. — we ordered a baked potato with NO bacon and a couple of tacos. We were smart this time and checked the order before driving off and yes it came with plenty of bacon. So I kindly asked the cashier — Laura — when she finally decided to acknowledge that we were trying to get attention, for butter with out bacon. Now I don’t understand what the big deal was, she repeated the order to us before handing it to us and she clearly said a «baker with no bacon». It goes without saying she was not to happy to give us a small butter cup without bacon. Plenty of eye rolling and attitude came with the new butter, and before I could ask for some hot sauce for my taco she kindly shut the window on my face. Now I’m a fairly calm guy, but having someone close the door on your face when your simply asking for hot sauce for a taco that you just purchased, is just plain rude. The customer service needs a serious clean up. If any of my employees were to do this to a customer they would be looking for another job. This Bill Millers has the worst Customer service. Unless your in to being treated like dirt and bothering the workers I would not recommend going to this Bill Millers. Thanks.

I feel like they need to extend their breakfast hours. Ive come between 10am-10:30am twice and it was too late for breakfast. Who eats lunch at 10:30am?! I was told they were only serving all day tacos. I don’t know what all day tacos are. Do you sit there and eat them all day or something? Either way I can’t ever get my egg and potato tacos before work. So last time I just went ahead and ordered a chicken bbq sandwich for breakfast and I got nearly half way though it and choked on a bone. I lost my appetite and threw it away. Never coming here again.

Fast, cheap, good. Pick two, because you rarely get all three. Fast and cheap unlike a lot of the other BBQ joints popping up around town. Large brisket sandwich, fries, and tea for just over $ 9. Brisket is serviceable, especially when you add the spicy sauce on the condiment bar. Adequate fries. The tea is good, but not the addictive level of good that some people claim it to be. And Bill Miller has to be the last fast food place standing that still has you go to the counter for refills and sweetener. When you need quick BBQ, this is an option. Also, their chicken strips are pretty darned good.

Thanksgiving(confusion) catering. I decided to order from Bill’s instead of another more familiar choice. I ordered without any hesitation or problems with placing my order/payment; she was rather pleasant and made it a simple process and weeks before the holiday. I arrived; even leaving work early on wednesday to pickup my order. The employee looked puzzled and made such a simple process leave her in a daze. I was in a rush(as with all that do not live in Austin), so I did not double-check my order(I definitely should have before I left to be on my way out of town). I had ended up with two pumpkin pies(I ordered one of pumpkin and one pecan) and even ended up with two quarts of potato salad(no dressing as I had specifically ordered/paid for). I had been forewarned that they had run out, when I arrived(rather blankly stated). If I had not bought another pecan pie, then we would have had none for the holiday-at all. I was quite upset and quickly drove back into Austin, later that evening for my missing dressing and even purchased another quart.(if only I had checked my pie orders before I left, then I would have been even more irritated to correct their«error»); certainly not my intent and I realize they may not have as much famiiarity with more organized preparation of orders that had already been paid way in advance and all the errors in my order. I will definitely keep their disorganization in mind for next year(or other occasions; since I regularly ordered from then on other circumstances); maybe try other options or more experienced with their customer’s requests. This day in age with all the conveniences and availability; did not think it was completely the consumer’s responsibility to «supervise/correct» their customer service.

I have come here a few times for breakfast, and today was just bad. I wanted to ask for my money back. That says a LOT for me. I got the Bill Miller breakfast and the eggs were cold the bacon was tough. The beans were fine but the potatoes were bland and undercooked. I also got the carne guisada and I could not chew the meat. The meat tasted like it came out of a cambells can of carne guisada. When I went to get ketchup from the dispense there was this nasty ketchup water that came out. Side note — in the ladies room there a note scratched into the wall which tells it’s own story… «f%K you waitstaff you have the worst service» I think I will just skip this place from now on. I live in Austin and there is no reason to Settle for this.

Went back today and dined in. The food was inedible. I had the 2 meat Rancher with turkey and chicken. Chicken ¼th a bird(not expected that) and was pink to red. To me, that’s undercooked. Turkey was just the opposite and very dry. BBQ sauce not tasty at all. Got hash browns which were mostly burnt, coleslaw way too vinegary today. Sweet tea was good as was the potato salad. Some homeless looking guy was foraging through the dining room unheaded eating food off the trays of departed diners. Made sure to leave mine in clear sight as I ate almost nothing. He might not have been so, hum, worried. Got my husband a po boy with sausage to go thinking that should be okay, right? He said the meat looked and tasted«raw» and tossed it. There went $ 20 for our uneaten meals. Should have just left well enough alone with just yesterday’s take out.

In the morning when I’m looking for breakfast my criteria is high-protein portable and easy. this is a great place to find brisket tacos. It’s also a great place to find bean and cheese tacos. The problem is many times they’re out of brisket which I find highly annoying. The coffee sucks but the tea is good. So what I’m trying to say is when this place gets it right they really get it right but when it’s wrong it’s pitiful. It’s hard for me to leave them a glowing review when I know three days from now they’re going to be out of brisket when I’m on my way to work and I’m going to be pissed. Another thing many times their pie is unavailable in the mornings as well. So I’ll sum it up the brisket tacos are yummy if you can get them they’re also priced well.

This is fast food BBQ. Meaning: It’s pretty bad. I had their chopped beef and it was maybe the worst chopped beef sandwich I’ve ever had. I had their chicken fingers and they were so fatty I had to throw them away after one bite. The only reason they’re getting 2 stars is because someone from my office brought in some breakfast tacos for a meeting one morning and they were not terrible.

This review is based on their«catering service» I use for my Thanksgiving turkey and(new this year) my Easter ham. It works great, I call up(actually if I forget they call me to remind me to order) and pre-order my turkey or ham. Then it’s ready for me to pick up the day before the holiday. They even walk it out to my car for me. You can also order additional family style sides, including pies. Turkey: Choose Tom or Hen. It comes fully cooked(you just reheat in the oven), with gravy and stuffing on the side. Delicious every year I’ve had it, 7 years and running. Ham: Choose a half or a whole. It comes fully cooked(I re-heated it in the oven 1.5 hours). It comes glazed and spiral cut. It was very tasty and I loved the glazed end parts. I’ve been to the restaurant for lunch a few times. Their brisket is okay, the sausage is better, and I love their darker bread. 3 stars for their BBQ.

I go here sometimes because it’s close to work and there really aren’t many other options close by. I’ve always known the food was not good and certainly not worthy of being called bbq. I went for the baked potato because how could you mess that up!?! Well I went today to get one to go with my salad and when I opened the container that held the butter, cheese, sour cream, etc. I saw mold growing on the cheese. We all know mold grows on cheese and at home it’s no big deal but a restaurant!?! That’ll be the last time I go.

This is the closest restaurant to my office and amazingly I’ve never tried it in three years until the past month. My colleagues have sternly warned me to stay away from the BBQ items on the menu… A strange warning for a BBQ restaurant, but whatever. The breakfast tacos are good and reasonably priced and filling. I ordered a brisket taco recently which wound up being simply brisket in a tortilla, but it was decent. I’d stick to the potato & egg in the future… more bang for your buck. The chicken tenders basket is a good lunch option for days when you feel like consuming 1,500 calories in one sitting. Between the biscuit, heaping portion of fries, chicken, and country gravy, you won’t be hungry again for a while. You also won’t feel very good about yourself afterwards, but at least you won’t be hungry.

The bbq gets 2 stars. It’s ok. Get a Po’boy, smother it with sauce and you won’t be offended. The breakfast tacos(yes, breakfast tacos) get 4 stars. The use of their smoked sausage, beans, and steak fries remind me of my mom using the food left-over from Sunday’s bbq for Monday’s breakfast. The carne guisada with cheese isn’t bad at all. Always ask for the tortillas ‘well done’. If not they will usually come out gooey. The fried chicken(yes, fried chicken) gets 4 stars as well. I guess everything but the bbq is good.

So this is my third time here and if you can screw up BBQ in Texas three times in a row, you have no reason to be in business. Everything at Bill Miller’s is cooked at a central location and sent to the restaurants. They microwave everything so basically you’re paying to eat leftovers. People say it’s cheap but a single meat plate at Pok-e-Jo’s is about the same price and Pok-e-Jo’s is actually edible. I got a single-meat sausage plate and it was three sides jammed together on one plate sitting in a pool of grease/watery BBQ sauce. I couldn’t believe this plate even left the kitchen. I tried it, reluctantly, and was disgusted to find out how tough and chewy the sausage is. Cause microwaved and cooked three days ago probably! So I spoke to the manager, who was nice and courteous, and swapped it out for lean brisket. At least the brisket could be cut with a knife, but it pretty much had no taste to it. Oh yeah… three sides with your meal, but we’re talking less than the quality of most jail/school food. My best friend used to work here and I have a fun fact to share. Do NOT ever EVER order teh chopped beef sandwich. Two sandwiches for $ 5.19 sure seems attractive doesn’t it. Process chopped«beef» is made: All the remains of the cuttings of the leftover food is stored in a huge bucket with grease and collected over several days in a cooler. Once it’s full, it’s shipped to wherever they cook the meat, Dallas or something, and they recook the scraps, blend it all together, and ship it back to the restaurants. I’m surprised its legal to sell literal garbage in all honesty. IF you only have $ 6 in your pocket, go to McDonald’s or Waffle House nextdoor. You’ll get much better food and less likely to get sick.

Two words: BREAKFASTTACOS. I’m originally from San Antonio and I will tell you that I have had the darnedest time finding a decent flour tortilla in this town. Bill Miller makes their flour tortillas in house! You can’t beat that. Try to find a homemade flour tortilla in this town. Bacon and egg is my fav. Crisp bacon and soft scrambled egg(most of the time). Burn your lips hot sauce. The carne guisada is my second choice. OMG, soooo good. I don’t get it often because it’s just so darn rich, the guilt is too overwhelming. As far as the lunch and dinner, you gotta order your brisket LEAN. They will make it lean if you ask and it is wonderful. I had a party catered by them, and the meat was the first to get gobbled up. Salads are fresh, baked potatoes are pleasing and the beans are hard to beat. They also make fried chicken! Good, slow-cooked food, great desserts, and sweet tea. It’s drive-thru breakfast tacos and BBQ at it’s best.

For all those(and that is almost everybody) that didn’t read my 1st review I said I would only eat Bill Miller BBQ again when it was business related. Well guess what today I had a lunch meeting at Bill Miller today. My path of least resistance was the sausage, hash browns and slaw. Slaw was more vinegar based and not mayo based style slaw but it was OK, the hash browns were well just bad, the sausage was good. I had to go to counter and ask for mustard but they graciously found me some. Would I go back? Only when the business demands it.
