So this is the first of two Big Lots reviews because I go to both of them once a week. Yep, I go to each one every week. I get almost everything for our home here and no is the wiser. I usually get all of our food here except produce and that includes organic chickpeas for $ 1.20(18 oz folks). All of my South Beach meal bars, graham crackers, applesauce, all condiments(they have tons of different ones and usually they are ones that aren’t featured in stores in Austin). This Big Lots has a clearance food section which I always get lucky with(got the fancy triscuits for a buck!) and they also have the ‘drug store buyouts’ where I can get awesome vitamins for 90% off. A great place to get travel snacks and canned food! And cleaning supplies, make up, toilet paper, shampoo, and socks. The staff at this one are pretty nice too and they recognize me, which may or may not be a good thing.

This place is like Wal-Mart’s tag along little brother. It’s probably only like 12% less evil, so I only make it in every so often. When I do, however, there are some seriously rad deals. It’s dirty, the staff are practically automated humanoids devoid of any concept of customer service, but it is what it is.

I love you, Big Lots. I love you for your Bissel cleaners and name brand shampoos and $ 20 kitchen appliances. Sure, I get angry sometimes when your towels shred in the wash or your saws snap off at the handle, but those small indiscretions are instantly forgiven when I think of your offering of an AM/FM clock radio in a toaster. That’s what love is, Big Lots. Being able to see the bigger picture. Looking past the old canned meat to see the beauty in a toaster oven with a skillet on the top and a coffee pot on the side. As long as you keep bringing me small surprises like that, I’ll love you until the day my paycheck runs out.
