I’m typing as I eat… THEPOTATOSALAD!!! Is on point!!! Every single bite is to die for. Don’t even ask what’s in it cause it does not matter it’s good. I ordered some gumbo as well, it has a kick of spices. Comes together well. :] good eat for me

Food is great! Service was not friendly :(also consistency it’s huge! A friend and I ordered the same thing, hers came with chives and mine with parsley on top. Two completely different herbs, which made a huge difference on the meal. I would say try to stick to parsley!

Wife loved it, even went back on a rainy night before heading to the airport. They had a great desert that was almost like a zeppole but lighter and better.

I’m so disappointed to write this review. I’ve been looking forward to trying this place for months. To say it was ‘average’ would be an extraordinary generosity. I grew up in Baton Rouge and New Orleans and have only found a handful of restaurants in Austin that offer a taste of home so I am always excited to add a new option to the short list. That didn’t happen here. Upon arrival I ordered two jambalaya on a stick, two orders of potato salad, and a bowl of gumbo; all to go. I intended to bring my husband(also from Nola) a surprise of the jambalaya and potato salad. Once to the car, I pulled out the fist jambalaya and it was extremely hot(just freshly fried, not a bad thing), I was impatient and took a bite before it cooled. I thought the poor taste was just that it was too hot to get the flavor. That wasn’t the problem. I moved to the crawfish boil potato salad which I can say was excellent, but at $ 3.50 for a serving size of a standard ice cream scoop I can’t even recommend that. I went back to the jambalaya on a stick which had now cooled a bit — I’m not sure if it was the oil it was fried in or something in the rice, but I couldn’t eat more than a few bites of it. It had a synthetic or metallic taste that got stronger the more I ate. I put it back in the foil and headed out to my next destination which was a friends house. Once there, I pulled all the rice off and just at the few pieces of sausage that were skewered on the stick and they were okay. That jambalaya was pretty disappointing, but still not as bad as the gumbo. No joke, it was the texture and appearance of black beans and rice from a Mexican restaurant. It had no liquid in it, just pasty rice with some veg/seasoning on top. I could see okra in it, so I’m pretty sure they didn’t just give me the wrong thing. It also did not look like any of the pictures on Unilocal of other peoples’ orders. It was still hot and less than 20 minutes from having ordered it so I can’t blame it on a to-go order as far as changing texture over time. I’ll try to post a picture of it because it is almost unbelievable anyone could call this gumbo. Even as I had been eating the disappointing jambalaya, I thought I may still go back and try some of the other items(based on the potato salad really), but after the gumbo… no, that won’t be happening. My rather short list of places to get good cajun or creole food in ATX is staying short. Not only can I not support this as a good Cajun restaurant, I can’t even recommend it as a place to eat at all. I did give a second star based on that potato salad, it was really good(be ready for some heat if you order it).

This place never disappoints. The location is fantastic. I can walk here from my building in East Austin(and so can you if you’re hanging out downtown!). The gumbo has a good solid bit of spicy and the beignet is always fried *just* right. I also recommend the poutine. I’ve only ever had it from this one place so I don’t have anything else to compare it to but yay, poutin! It’s a must-have with a fried egg

Crawfish Etoufee is my new most amazing favorite! Made with butter. I could taste the butter and the crawfish was amazing.

As much as I wanted to this place to be awesome, because I love Creole, pretty much everything I’ve had here is disappointing and subpar. Super nice people though. And, some of the stuff is more or less OK. I just wish they had more delicious, Authentic, Creole food.

My friends and I went specifically for their Beignets! There are smaller than the ones I had in New Orleans but they were super yummy. There were six per order and they were served on a stick like a kabob. Loved it! Can’t wait to go try their food!

The crawfish bowl here was great. I came here on Halloween night and it was a lil busy, but the food was still warm anyways. So many food trucks in this area fail to make the food seem cooked, this one succeeded and at a good price as well, only 8 something dollars. Cajun cooking man you gotta love it. Will be back to try out more.

My first experience was at the truck where I tried the jambalaya baton and beignets. I hate to base my first taste on a night I’m out drinking and everything seems amazing late night. Last night, we did our inevitable late night, I’m-hungry-but-I-don’t-want-fast-food-on-Riverside routine. My boyfriend and I are on a Favor kick showing no sign of stopping. So here’s my four dishes we shared(so good, I even made a collage): Potato salad — just the right amount of everything I love about potato salad. Empty plate, I could’ve are a whole bowl. Gumbo — spot on, perfect spice, absolutely no hot sauce needed. Chunky and more rice then roux, the way the boyfriend likes it best. I think it’s second only to my boss’s and Pappadeux’s version The baton: enjoyed again. I really like the remoulade Étouffée: least gave. Not as much flavor as the others, but that gumbo is hard to match

We got there two minutes before close and got beignets and the guy working there was SUPER nice and accommodating. Beignets are light, fluffy, sugary, ANDSERVEDON A STICK!!!(So you can attempt to have some semblance of neatness while eating).

I was so full by the time my tour got here that I couldn’t have anything else but the beignets. The food that was coming out of the trailer looked amazing though, and if I had another stomach I would have indulged. Will definitely come back for étouffée. While I didn’t try the main plates, I think the set-up and concept is a great staple in the Austin food trailer scene. Hope to update with a true food review in time.

Tried the beignets, the jambalaya on a stick and the green been casserole. I added crawfish to my green been casserole and it was really tasty! Just like my aunt makes it! Crispy fried onions on top that really added textured to the casserole. The green beens themselves were not too mushy and the gravy was really packed with a bit of spice. I ended up having people eat out of my bowl, which was fine because the portion was pretty large! My friend is vegan so I was really impressed that there were a few things that she was able to eat here. It’s not really typical of cajun/creole cuisine. And her options were still different, unique and still tasty! My friend said it was good and both items were very large portions. My other friend ordered their special, which was a poutine with crawfish. also so gooooooodddd. I didn’t like the beignets as much as everything else but they weren’t bad. The overall wait time on a Friday night on E.6th was not bad at all. Food came out quick and still hot.

Unique little Cajun food truck on East Sixth. Vegetarians and vegans HAVE to try the fried jambalaya on a stick with tofu! Where else are you going to be able to try that??? And beignets. Enough said.

A funny place with peculiar charms. A limited menu of Cajun items — two of which are standard(gumbo and etouffe) one of which is half standard(beignets — but on a stick) and the rest of which are utterly strange. Strange is good. I did the crab-boil potato salad — and this is not your mother’s potato salad or your grandmother’s potatos salad. It is firey hot, there is just enough crab to give it body it is potato salad, not a full fledged crab dish and every bite is interesting. it is sort of «half dinner» and i had no idea what you would order with it to make for a full dinner. i went with the beignets on a stick — which are surprisingly enough beignets on a stick. not as orgasmic as the ultimate beignet experience that all of us have had once … you know the story … ” she has never gotten over her first beignet in high school and now she can’t commit to any other beignets no matter how good they are because she is still living in her romanticized past.“ but they are fine beignets. with all the extra powdered sugar, my picnic table looked like it had snowed when it was done … but it was still fine enough. my own guess is that the other dishes on the menu might be pretty spectacular and a return visit could be in order. on the downside — the trailer park on east 6th and waller is kind of a dive. there are good trucks and DEFINITELY cool walk-by pedestrians and other customers. but the place is both about-to-be-born-as the-next-big-thing and simultaneously feels-like-it-is-dying… which might as well be a description of most of the grungy/yuppifying east side of austin. and the park itself was both dirty and nice, rundown and cool. my guess is that at midnight on a friday night with all the trucks open and bright and shiny lights everywhere the place is megacool. by day — the place is a little down-on-its-luck but with bass guitarists at the next table.

The crawfish étouffée made my day. Let me repeat: MADEMYDAY! There were other factors involved however. Actually I have a dark confession I will probably regret later. So my friend ordered chili cheese fries and after going back and forth from one bite of étouffée to one gobble(yes, I gobbled) of chili cheese fries, I decided to mix some chili cheese fries into the étouffée and holy mother of junk food for the soul. ah-friggen-mazing. But let me back track, the étouffée was delicious and perfect without the need to massacre it with chili and cheese and potatoes. Seriously, so good. Perfect amount of spice. Please don’t hate me for my lack of culinary etiquette. Sometimes you just have to put cheese on top, ok?

Great little place in East Austin. My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed the food here despite the hot and humid weather. We ordered the Gumbo with potato salad, Jambalaya Baton, and the Green bean casserole. We also got hot beignets free with check-in, which were excellent. If I were to come back, I would definitely order the gumbo and casserole again, because they were not skimpy with the sausage and crawfish. The jambalaya baton was a bit too bland/heavy for my taste, perhaps if they did fried rice balls instead you would get more of the crunchiness to add some more dimension. Would definitely recommend for lunch!

I am a huge gumbo fan. Call it cliché my favorite to die for food from New Orleans are Gumbo &BBQ Shrimp. Anyway, this place has amazing Gumbos!!! i love it. Everytime I visit austin, I am going to come here. My boyfriend is waiting for it to strike noon before we leave for Houston to grab the gumbo lol Do try this place. The food truck is pink and so cute. Automatically attracts your eyes :) I am sure you guys will love it

Let’s talk about Baton Creole, where last night I experienced a revelation, an epiphany, and a cajun dream come true. My guest and I went to east side filling station because I heard about this truck serving fried jambalaya on a stick(?!) and vegan gumbo, so after having been craving it all week, we ordered close to the whole menu. Needless to say, I had pretty high expectations. Baton Creole exceeded all of said expectations, sent my taste buds on a trip through several other dimensions, and came with a delightful experience of meeting the truck’s owner, Lynzy, as well. She recommended we try a scoop of potato salad on top of the vegan gumbo, and good god I can honestly say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It added a flavorful creaminess to a dish already packed with spice, and it won a bit of my heart with every bite. My carnivore guest, who is sometimes harder to please with vegetarian food, was also beyond pleased. The vegan andouille sausage tastes like the real thing, and most importantly, it all tasted like the secret ingredient behind it was a tender, epic love. The fried jambalaya on a stick was magical, packed with flavor and spice, crispy on the outside and creamy on the in. And the beignets we finished with were so fabulously divine,(soft, fluffy, and sweet) that after having finished an entire stick of them, we went back and ordered more to take home with us. The phenomenal food speaks for itself – I rarely feel that a meal is worth absolutely every penny, but feel that Baton Creole deserved it all. But what you really need to know is that the owner, Lynzy, is a real gem of a gal, who tied it all together for me. So often you encounter a place with delicious food and obvious cooking talent, but are turned off by their snobbery and constant patting themselves on the back. I love knowing that my support went to someone who, beyond a shadow of a doubt, deserves it all. It was a real pleasure, Lynzy. You keep doing your thing and I’ll keep raving and eating it up.
