Dr. Atkinson is a neurologist who I have seen twice for nerve conduction studies to see if I had carpal tunnel. He seems knowledgable and worked hard to make sure that I understood what he could determine with his nerve machine and what he could not. I was referred by the surgeon who worked on my neck but it turns out that they have never met each other. Dr. Atkinson does not have the friendliest of demeanors but he does give you what you pay for. When trying to get copies of records for my primary care doc so that she could be kept in the loop, I did not get cooperation from Dr. Atkinsons office but managed to get my surgeon who received the records to forward them to her. I called Lynn, his office manager, to seek copies of my records and any notes he took etc so I can initiate a wc claim. Lynn told me the copies would cost $ 25 and they would include his notes but that of course I would not be able to make out his writing. She also told me that he would not be willing to give his opinion as to whether or not my carpal tunnel was work related or not. The bill for nerve conduction is north of $ 1750. My feeling is that for that amount, his office should care if I can read his notes or not. I don’t know if I’ll ever need another nerve conviction test or not, but if I do, I will have it done by another physician.
