The atmosphere is perfect, but the food and the service were sadly lacking. While the menu looks like my dream come true, with veggie options, «healthy» food and tons of eggs, I was disappointed by the processed potatoes(that tasted like they had recently been defrosted), bread-y pancakes, and frozen bananas in my «healthy option.» The coffee is subpar. On the other side of things, my companion was mildly satisfied. No one got blown away. The service needs to step up! I had to call the waitress over twice to get orders in and coffee refilled. We waited for about 20 minutes without place settings or water. Back to the positive, it is cute as a button. All the way down to the branded dishes! Well, Broken Egg, I’ll try again, but not of my own volition.

I don’t hate writing a negative review particularly if it’s warranted and it is warranted. I will start with the positive. The food was delicious. That said, there isn’t a single vegetarian SALAD on the menu and if you are a vegetarian, you will have to custom order your meal because errrrything has meat on it. Mind boggling for a campus restaurant, but my food was delicious. I never ate at Mangia so I don’t know if the interior is the same but it is terrible. My first thought when we walked in was that I was in the«dining room» of a highway motel. La Quinta, to be exact. It’s cold and completely devoid of personality. If memory serves, there also wasn’t any music making it feel even more clinical. Discovering later that it’s a chain makes more sense. Our waitress promptly came over after we were seated and took our drink orders. When she came back with the drinks we weren’t ready to order. Mistake. Because it was quite some time before she came back to take the order because she was one of only 3 discernible servers working that day for a completely full restaurant. The manager/owner was hustling but trust me, this was not enough. We got our food relatively quickly and that is pretty much the last thing that happened with any sort of efficiency. Our waitress was also the bartender. And the bar was ten deep meaning she couldn’t even see past the people standing in front of her to realize that it had been 20 minutes since a drop of coffee had been poured anywhere in the vicinity of our table or anyone else’s for that matter. We had to ask 3 times to get coffee. Call me crazy, but that’s a breakfast staple, no? After finishing our meal we sat. And we sat and we sat and we sat. And then we sat some more. Waiting for someone, anyone, to notice that we were finished and a check was in order. And then we got the check. And then the process started all over again while we waited for someone to come take our money. So now we’re sitting in no man’s land in a La Quinta dining room and these two things combined were making my usually unflappable friend quite flapped. She also hadn’t had enough coffee because(see above). Gah. You all need to step your game up in the service department, for real. There are too many good breakfast spots to waste time at one that can’t get the basics of service together.

Most mediocre breakfast I’ve ever had. No flavor, bland bland bland. Not to mention it took forever just to get our waters. There’s a million other breakfast places in Austin I would choose before ever going here again.

I really hate to write a negative review about Another Broken Egg, especially since my friends on the East Coast like it so much. But, you gotta do what you gotta do. First off, the wait was terrible. On Sunday at 11:30am, we waited for almost an hour to get a table. That’s not bad for a Sunday, but you know what was? Seeing the empty tables and hearing the hostesses say that they wanted to wait to seat their customers to give the cooks a break. HELLO?! You’re going to leave your GUESTS seated OUTSIDE and make them wait, without asking them if they wanted something to drink? To me, that made no sense at all. Once we finally got a table, our waitress was not very welcoming, but rather looked tired and lethargic. I’m not going to complain about her too much. Food: — I got the biscuit beignets at the recommendation of fellow Unilocalers. It was a nice, faint reminder of what you’d get in NOLA, but that’s it. A nice reminder. And at $ 4 for 8 beignets, underwhelming. The marmalade was just TOO sweet too. It definitely overpowered the beignets. — Biscuits and gravy. I’ve become somewhat of a biscuit and gravy connoisseur. I appreciate that their biscuits are home-made, which is nice. However, the gravy was just thick and bland, not the sausage-embedded gravy that should accompany a biscuit. This probably ranks outside the top three that I’ve ever had. — Homemade sausage. This was probably one of the redeeming things about this place. I really liked their homemade sausage! It was moist and had the faintest kick, but was a little sweet too. Confused? Get it. All in all, a long, sad morning. We didn’t leave til almost 2, which is kind of a long brunch… I don’t know if i’m headed back here again.

This place sucks, plain and simple. Came on a moderately busy Sunday morning and the service was garbage. Waitresses were clueless and very awkward. Sloooooooow service, and neglectful. Go to Denny’s. Seriously. Do it. If you’re sitting there right now contemplating leaving, just go. The one star was earned by the decent playlist and cool coffee cups. As I am writing this review, our food came and as I’m buttering my French toast, I notice a lengthy dark hair intertwined between the slice. That’s it, we’re out. Walked out.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while. The name caught my attention when I first went to UT. I finally got the chance to try it yesterday, but I don’t have much to talk about. The items seem overpriced without anything unique to bolster the high prices. The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere seems cozy, but I won’t be coming back any time soon. If you really want to try it, go for the tacos, omelettes, or biscuits. I heard they are better.

Cute brunch place with bright colors. Atmosphere is not too loud for a group of ladies to have a conversation. I went on and on about the biscuit beignets and had to order them for us to share. Formed crust with a tender crumb inside = perfectly fried pillows. They come with honey orange marmalade which they make fresh in-house as told by our waiter. It was TASTY. The cinnamon roll french toast was recommended by someone who goes there often. Read the description and I was hooked. French toast alone gets me excited so any version is a go! Yes, sugar is good. There was fruit on it. That totally counts. Now let me just roll out of my chair home.

I tend to gravitate toward more Austiny haunts, like Magnolia, Omelettry or Frisco’s. Actually, when I go out for breakfast, I prefer Mexican breakfasts. But this time, I found myself at Another Broken Egg. We entered the back way, from the garage, to the aroma of burned English muffins. In spite of that, the restaurant is exceptionally bright and clean, and the meal was quite tasty. I ordered the bacon and avocado omelette, and was pleasantly surprised that the bacon in the omelette was really good and crispy. My companion ordered the omelette with caramelized onions, red peppers, and I’m not sure what else. He asked for them to add spinach, and they forgot, but he still enjoyed the omelette. The restaurant is not inexpensive, but not gourmet-priced either, and they do offer some unusual options. No biscuits though, and I would love to find a delicious crusty biscuit somewhere. All in all, a decent place to eat breakfast. Probably a good place to take parents? But if you’re looking for the Austin atmosphere, you won’t find it here. But that’s okay. You can pretend you’re on vacation.

We have now eaten brunch at Another Broken Egg five times in the past 3 months. They are not super busy yet, so it is still very easy to find parking and there is rarely a wait for a table(yea!) and we have had terrific service each time we have visited. The food is «unique and creative» and it’s very good(I love both the biscuit beignets and the blackberry grits) but it’s not consistent enough to be «excellent.» With the exception of their coffee, they do have consistently excellent coffee. As others have noted it is on the pricey side, but the portions are huge… well, except for the amusingly small $ 7(?) single Belgian waffle(which does not come with sides). Truthfully, I have stopped ordering any of the egg dishes because, as wonderful as they are, I really can only finish 1⁄3 to ½ of my breakfast and I don’t care to reheat eggs(left-overs). It is unfortunate that the omelettes are not available in smaller sizes. We have decided that this is a great place for those few occasions when we are meeting friends for breakfast or for those times we want to «change it up,» but not for our regular weekend brunches.

We ate here for brunch this morning. I had the bananas foster french toast and my husband had a cheeseburger. Delicious on both accounts. It was a little pricier than I’d usually think to pay for breakfast, but still good. The manager(owner?) stopped by our table just to say hello, which was nice. I want to go back and try the Southern crab stack some time soon. Since we came in through the back door, I think we may have scared a waitress a little when we snuck up to the hostess station. If you go, I suggest using the front door if you don’t want to weird out the staff and all the rich people enjoying their nice brunch.

My boyfriend and I came here on Monday for the first time. After leaving, we agreed that this was the worst service we’d ever experienced at a restaurant in Austin. To begin with, we walked in at about 10:30 am, and it felt hotter inside the restaurant than it was outside(and it was already in the mid-80’s). Normally, one would expect the service staff to at least ACKNOWLEDGE the fact that it is sweltering hot inside the restaurant, but nobody did. I was willing to put up with the heat if the food was good, so we ordered our food despite being slightly uncomfortable. We waited about 25 minutes for our food to come out. Again, I can deal with that if the food is good; I’d rather have well-prepared food that takes a little while to prepare than microwaved frozen astronaut food. After checking on us once when we were almost finished with our food, our server literally disappeared for the next 45 minutes. During that time, we were done eating, and nobody checked on us at all. When our server finally decided to saunter casually back to our table, the first words to come out of his mouth were, «Did you even eat any of it?» No joke. Not, «I’m sorry it’s taken me a while to get back here,» or, «I apologize for the wait.» Just a comment on the amount of food I consumed(which, by the way, is none of his business). By that point I was incredibly irritated. When I told our new friend that I had a Groupon, his response was, «Argh.» Yes, ARGH. It appeared that our harbinger of joy had moved on from making condescending remarks about my eating habits to grumbling about a damn Groupon. He couldn’t figure out how to process the Groupon, which I had pulled up on my phone, and without asking, kept pressing buttons with his dirty fingers on my screen. Shockingly, it took him at least another 15 minutes to process our payment. It should come as no surprise to anyone that we will not be returning. Oh, but the cinnamon roll french toast is positively delightful, which is why it gets two stars rather than one.

Me and some coworkers came here for lunch and found the place relatively empty. Our waiter was quick and attentive, brought our drinks and took our orders fairly rapidly. We split some of the beignets, which came with orange marmalade something or other. They were fresh, light and powdered with sugar. The orange marmalade sauce, which I thought would have added a lot to the beignet, didn’t actually add that much. I got the mardi gras as my main entrée, but they forgot to give me the english muffin that was supposed to come with it. They give you a lot of homefries too, and those were very good. Not greasy, not too salty and nice and crisp. The omelet itself was very imbalanced. The sweetness from the crawfish was at times overpowering and the andouille sausage, which I expected to be the strongest flavored ingredient, didn’t taste like anything. I also realized they didn’t add milk to the eggs for the omelet to soften it or any type of pancake batter to fluff it. Well, the problem with that is then you can a relatively crispy edge, tougher omelet. Sure, dairy deflates it a bit, but rather not be needing a knife just to cut my omelet instead of my fork. On top of it all, I paid probably close to 1.5 times what I’d pay at Ihop for an omelet. Not saying this wasn’t great and definitely on a different level than ihop, but who would pay $ 12 – 15 for breakfast/brunch? Especially near a college campus? Wrong market…

Stopped in here for a late breakfast and we loved it. I had the«Floridian» omelete, which is an omelete that is topped with garlic-butter crab. YUM. It also came with my very favorite kind of breakfast potatoes — the kind that are cut into little cubes, pretty much all the same size, of perfectly browned goodness. My husband also enjoyed his eggs benedict. People comparing it to Denny’s or IHOP are completely wrong. The food at Another Broken Egg is a definite and noticeable step up in quality from that class. And you know how breakfast places can sometimes be a bit greasy feeling and have that overpowering smell that settles on you like a stifling coat?(What IS that smell? Burnt bacon?) You won’t find that at ABE — the place is bright, clean, and fresh. If you’ve ever been to a First Watch, they are very similar with the fresh taste and smell plus a clean, open environment. I do not understand all the people who are hating on ABE because it’s not local or doesn’t have enough Austin feeling. Seriously people?!? How much queso can you possibly eat? Sure the Omlettery is a local one-off place but it’s also a service clusterfuck with food that I’d classify as just serviceable. And do I really feel like waiting around for 90 minutes for a Kerbey Lane table so I can have food and service that is inconsistent at best? Come on. This restaurant’s concept may be a chain, but the owners live here, the staff lives here, and they are obviously trying to create a nicer breakfast experience for us breakfast egg lovers. And, in my opinion, they are succeeding.

We went here New Year’s Day and had a pretty bad experience. While the food was good, this review is mainly about the service(or lack thereof). I tend to be a fan of local business, and try to frequent them whenever I can, but all my normal spots were either closed, or crazy busy with it being breakfast/lunch time on New Year’s Day(and I was STARVING). I saw the old Mangia spot was now a curious little thing called Another Broken Egg Café, which as first I assumed was an Asian place, and also a local place. It was neither, but no sweat, I’m not pretentious enough to not give it a chance. I realized this was a chain when I walked in. The décor is fairly chainy-y, but I wasn’t too concerned. The place is only open till the mid afternoon which seems odd that they would have such high rent, and expect to make enough money off of breakfast/lunch crowds to survive. Esp around the north campus areas. It took a while to get our seats, but we ordered fairly quickly. Then we waited… and waited… and waited some more. It was approx a 30−35min wait. Did I mention I was famished? I understand that is not their fault I was hungry, but assume if someone is going to a restaurant to eat, they are probably hungry. After about 15 minutes we tracked down and asked our waitress if there was an update on our food, and she said, ‘Sorry it’s taking so long, it should be out soon’. Then we wait some more… When we finally do get our meals, I’m so hungry I barely notice what I am eating, but it must have been decent enough for me to scarf down. I got the french toast, and my companion got some kind of omelet. Again, both weren’t bad. From a customer standpoint, here is what I’d like to see the waitress/manager do. 1. ACKNOWLEDGE!!! Please let me know that the kitchen is backed up, or they messed up my order, or whatever, and that it is going to take longer than expected. Bonus points if you can give me an estimate of how long that might be. 2. Bring me something to munch on. Bread, muffins, anything 3. Check on me a few times during the meal to make sure all is well, and comp me something. The manager did finally come by and apologize for our food taking so long, and offered an order of free beignets, but it’s doubtful I’ll ever go back. No Austin charm, bad service, and no attempt to fix something easy, esp when they KNOW our food was way late.

My husband and I had breakfast here one lovely Saturday morning. I had the French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon which was light and fluffy, while the Hubster had a potato skillet dish with ham, onions and cheese. The food was outstanding, but our server seemed stressed out. She apologized twice for not bringing our drinks order yet and we had been there only 10 minutes! The food(and drinks) came in a timely fashion, so I’m not sure why she felt the need to apologize. She had several large groups to deal with, so I kinda felt bad for her. She gave us the drinks for free, so I wouldn’t complain, EXCEPT… the menu said«fresh squeezed orange juice» and it was definitely not. It tasted good, but if you say it’s fresh squeezed, it had better be fresh squeezed.

Walked into this place after a TV fail at a bar down the street as I wanted to watch a football game. I had noticed as I walked by earlier that there was a small bar with a couple TVs showing the games. The bartender quickly took our drink orders and handed us a food menu. I realized everyone sitting at the bar was an employee, and who I assume was the manager offered to turn on the volume«since they were closed». So wow, they let us in and graciously served us outside of business hours! I ordered the Cajun Tuna Sandwich which was seared, dusted in Cajun seasonings, topped with cucumber, alfalfa sprouts and came on a Kaiser roll with smoked tomato mayo. The seasonings were great and caused my drink to disappear quicker than I had intended(next time will order a glass of water). The veggies were fresh the the tuna steak was good quality and a generous portion. Some of the employees were eating a burger and a couple others were eating the french toast, both looked delicious and they raved about how wonderful the french toast is.

This is right down the street from my house and it’s been open for about 3 weeks. I’ve already been here three times and I keep wanting to go back for more. I’m satisfied everytime! The belgian waffle is AMAZING. the shrimp florentine is AMAZING. and the biscuits and gravy are AMAZING. Everything here is soooo good! I strongly recommended this place to anyone who doesn’t mind paying a couple more bucks for a classy atmosphere and delicious breakfast/brunch.

Another Broken Egg just opened on November 7th and I have a feeling it may fill its seats quickly from all of buzz. Being the brunch enthusiast myself, Another Broken Egg caught my taste buds’ attention. So, I set time aside last Friday morning to quench my curiosity. Holy Mimosas! Brunch just isn’t brunch to me without my favorite morning drink. And, oh how delicious it was! Another Broken Egg’s Mimosa isn’t your ordinary run of the mill mimosa. They take pride in what they serve. Their mimosas are made with Prosecco, an Italian sparkling white wine, that sets them apart from the mimosas you’ll get at any other brunch place in Austin.(Believe me, I know. I’m a self-proclaimed Mimosa expert) If you’re as much of a mimosa fan as I am, this is is a must-order for you. Then it was on to the mouth-watering biscuit beignets. The ratio of powdered sugar to bread was spot on and they were still warm and perfect when I ate them. I could honestly eat their beignets all day long. They are so absolutely delicious and melt in your mouth! You can find my full review with photos on my personal blog:

I had arrived in the West University neighborhood a bit early for my brunch reservation at the soft-opening for Another Broken Egg, and found easy parking right next to the restaurant, and decided to walk around a bit and take in the beautiful(finally felt like fall) afternoon. After we explored a cute little vintage boutique, and a strange little co-op, our tummies began to grumble. Brunch time! First off, the interior of the place was truly so inviting and really what one would expect from a clean, comfortable, warm and inviting place to slow down, and enjoy a beautiful afternoon and meal. They do offer outdoor seating, but my mom and I really just wanted to take it all in and enjoy people watching, and honestly I wanted to see what everyone else was getting. The first course my mom and I decided on was a bowl of Blackberry Grits. Blackberry grits are basically southern style grits topped with blackberry compote. Let me tell you something: I’ve never been able to actually LIKE grits outside of my home, but these were something special. My mom said they were the best thing she’d had in a while. They were so creamy, and a they actually had a bit of a chew which provides an amazing texture. The blackberry lent an almost desert-like-decadence while still being completely appropriate for breakfast. Basically, you should go get some. For our entrees, I settled on quite possibly the least brunchy thing on the menu: The Grilled Tuna Wasabi salad — fresh gulf tuna, seared rare and sliced over mixed greens with cucumber, red onion & mandarin oranges. Drizzled with wasabi mayo, served with Oriental vinaigrette. The Ahi tuna on my salad was perfect for me, but I can see it leaned more toward totally rare than seared. I wouldn’t have it any other way, but that’s me. The quality was where the tuna wasn’t at all fishy, had a really wonderful firm and tender texture, and the flavor bordered on mildly sweet. The wasabi mayo added just enough heat, but it didn’t overwhelm at all. My mom got the second least brunchy thing on the menu: The Southern Shrimp Salad — Marinated, grilled shrimp atop a bed of spring mix, with cucumber, mandarin oranges, sliced strawberries, feta & sprouts. Yes I wanted brunch, and some of you might be confused about the salads, but isn’t that the beautiful thing about brunch? You can get whatever the heck you want! We had grits, and salad. To add more breakfast to the mix, I got a side of some country potatoes to even everything out. I can’t finish talking about Another Broken Egg Café — Austin without mentioning the franchise co-owner Cody. The passion he has in this business and the drive he embodies is really very stimulating as someone who shares similar passions. The excitement he had in his smile and the truly charming nature about him made the experience very special. He made the rounds around the restaurant, taking time to talk to each and every person, and made a genuine effort to shake everyone’s hand and share a few moments with each party. I was impressed, to say the least.
