Do not lease from these people. My son’s apartment in Lubbock at 25Twenty had structural damage to the subflooring. He and his roommates and the apartment below them were evacuated. They have lived doubled up in hotel rooms for three weeks and now have been moved to a substandard apartment complex for a month. No work has begun to repair their apartments, the manager is completely unresponsive, and numerous communications to the American Campus helpline have gone unanswered. In the meantime, we continue to pay exorbitant rent for a deficient apartment that is uninhabitable, and my son and his roommates are moved from place to place. This is not«dedication to serving their needs» as their false advertising states.

Absolutely do NOT lease from an american campus community run apartment. I live in the Texan in west campus and have had a leaking roof since September, it is now June of the following year. I along with roommates have submitted numerous maintenance requests about this and other issues that have been ignored. I have to call at least once a week to check on the issue and every time I do the person who answers the phone has no clue what I’m talking about so we start over from square one. The ceiling continues to crack and mold continues to form — it is clearly unsafe living conditions. In addition to the leak the only elevator in our complex often goes out for months at a time. It took filing a complaint with the City of Austin under ADA accessibility for the elevator to be fixed and even still it often does not work. It is clear that this company takes advantage of college students and their tendency to overlook issues and forget about things. We are starting the process to break our lease so we don’t have to deal with this management any longer.

DONOTLEASEHERE!!! 1. Management is absolutely horrible. There is ZERO communication — to accomplish anything(maintenance, lease, etc) requires 5+ phone calls, and re-explaining the situation to several different people, each of which apologizes for the horrible management, but it has not improved. We are all graduating seniors in our apartment, and each of us has gotten(I kid you not) 8 – 10 phone calls(once at 10pm) asking if we’d like to renew. Every time, we ask that they stop calling. I am considering blocking their phone number. 2. Cockroaches. Never-ending cockroaches. They were coming from the apartment below us, and Texan West for about a month, said they would take zero financial responsibility. The cockroaches were moving in the walls and reaching our dishwasher from the apartment below us — there was nothing we could do about it — and they would not take financial responsibility. A month later after we all figured out that that was actually illegal, they told us they would send a company to spray. Yet no one came. They lied twice and said that someone came. It was not until later that we asked that someone leave a note to prove that they came that the situation began to get under control. 3. Our air conditioning unit broke and it has taken about a month for any real action to be taken. I’ve been sleeping(well really, not sleeping) in an 80+ degree room and our air conditioning bill has been astronomical due to the fact that we’ve had to blast it to get any kind of cooling. These are just a few of MANY problems we’ve encountered here that we’ve never had before anywhere else. It’s almost funny how horrible it’s been, but 7 more months and counting, thank god.
