The store layout and selection has improved over the years. They may not know if they carry a particular fabric but they know about where to look if they did have it.

This place is definitely an unsung hero of fabric in S.Austin. They have a huge selection of very modern fabric, beautiful Kona solids, batiks and kid fabric. It’s the only place I buy fabric at in south Austin. The prices are good and while they carry different lines than the Lab; I can get modern stuff from a bigger selection without the side of «cooler than thou» sauce I have received elsewhere. I don’t do machine embroidery but they are stocked up for that and have a lot of machine supplies, scissors and notions. They are helpful and child friendly and this is my number one stop for all things sewing!

I heard about A Quilter’s Folly through the Austin Craft Riot fair, and decided to check the store out. I bought a Janome sewing machine from them, which came with free sewing lessons. I also ordered a case for the sewing machine, and the saleslady said it would take about 5 business days to arrive. A month and a half later, it finally comes in. While I understand that some things like availability are out of the store’s control, I feel like they could have done a better job communicating with their customers. I did not get a single call about my order, not even when it came in. I had to call them constantly to inquire about the status of my order, and a few times when I called, no one seemed to know what was going on with that. Apparently only one person is in charge of the ordering and no one else has any idea about it. That was my biggest frustration. They have a fairly decent selection of fabrics, and a lot of different feet for the models of sewing machines they carry(Pfaff, Janome, Brother). If they ever tell you they are out of a part and are going to have to order it, I would recommend just trying to buy it on Amazon. You would get it a lot faster, cheaper, and you’d get a tracking number.

I’m changing my review. Mary Ellen and the ladies here are great. The fabric is a nice mix of traditional and modern. She’s got all the right notions and supplies. I love Quilter’s Folly now!

I LOVELOVELOVE this store — Jennifer & her mother are simply — lovely to say the least. Very helpful & knowledge with sewing, quilting & sewing machines. I signed up for a group quilting class which had to be rescheduled. However, the available classes didn’t work for me due to my schedule. Jennifer actually gave me private lessons. I’d never made a quilt before, she helped me pick all of the fabric & supplies needed & then helped me every step of the way. Where most stores would either give you a refund or make you«eat-it» — she went above & beyond. I’m still amazed at her patience and kindness. I will be signing up for plenty of GROUP classes & purchasing all my fabric at this store. Very friendly.

I can’t believe it took me so long to discover this store, which has a beautiful selection of quilting fabric. Its name is a bit misleading [I wrote this review before they changed it to Quilter’s Folly] and they don’t advertise themselves well. I’ve been quliting 20+ years and I’m a terrible fabric snob. I don’t like frumpy or matchy-matchy and I get sick of trendy(eg Amy Butler) if that’s all I see. This shop has a beautiful selection of interesting fabric that is never frumpy, and the trendy stuff is balanced out by a really lovely range of further options covering all colors – there is a great mix of small-and large-scale prints, and a good range of patterned«semi-solids,» as I call them – fabrics that work well as backgrounds. They’ve got super cute kid fabric, nothing tacky, and a good selection of Japanese fabrics, plus a carefully selected range of materials from the best designers like Alexander Henry, Moda, Kaffe Fasset, and so on. The only problem with the selection here is that it is not larger. But compared with a larger store like The Quilt Shop, I was tempted to purchase a much larger percentage of what I saw. The staff is really friendly, the sample quilts on the wall are lovely, and they have a so-so selection of notions. I was disappointed not to see more options in quilt batting. There is no single go-to, comprehensive quilting fabric shop in Austin, but this one should definitely be on any quilter’s regular stash-building rotation.

I feel silly that I have passed this place by several times, without fully recognizing what this store is which is awesome! I am pleased with the level of courtesy I was treated with this morning because I did not plan to notice this store so I looked like a confused bum when I entered and asked a lot of questions to the more than accommodating staff. I asked about sewing classes because I want to learn how to hem pants and hemming is not taught there but I was kindly given information for a lady that hems that is a friend of the staff. If I am lucky, though, I may actually learn how to hem from someone in that store! I like to look forward to things and have options, just like everyone! I am an amateur at best when it comes to sewing but I needed some specific sewing machine tools and learned that their Round Rock Store had all of that so I went there today, too. I really like this store! Everyone is knowledgeable and supportive. They network with so many different people that sew on all levels, it was like finding a beautifully woven pattern under a heap of old thread or something! Thank you, A S & V! I will be back like an R S V P! :)
