311 Club

If you are looking for that old school, really dirty 6^th Austin, 311 Club is it. We went to see a particularly odd act and apparently 5 other people were interested as well. Don’t even know how they are still around with the turnout for the show.
Friend went to the bathroom and came back telling us to avoid it at all cost.
Act was entertaining, sound was OK.

Yuck… Even for dirty 6^th, this place was overly disappointing. Completely empty on a Saturday evening and understandably so (even with live music!). Also, don’t use the bathrooms. Even for a guy used to some awful facilities on dirty 6^th, their bathrooms made me gag. It feels like ownership doesn’t care if this place — in such a prime location, no less — does any kind of business. A straight up suck-​hole.

If you are a woman who is unattractive you are charged $ 20 at the door to get in. If you are cute it’s free. So since I’m ugly, I opted to save my money and spend it elsewhere.

This is probably THE nastiest bar mi esposa or I have been to, and believe me we’ve seen them all. It’s run down and dirty. Staff are south of friendly. Bathrooms look like a living biology experiment gone awry. The live band were pitiful. We stopped in here only to get away from the college pukers on Sixth Street, in hopes of hearing some decent music. Nothing here to recommend. OVERALL: GAG ME with a pitchfork. NOT RECOMMENDED.

There is always an eclectic crowd here. The drinks are cheap, and the décor is dark and probably from a few decades ago. It is usually my first stop.
The bartenders pour heavy, and I don’t ever really use the bathroom here; unless I am reapplying lipstick. It has a mirror and one stall. (No biggie) The music is always different. My favorite was on Halloween it was a jazzy/​50s sounding blues singer. This petite gorgeous Asian girl. Who was as sweet as can be. I wish I had grabbed the name of her band. Oh well.
If you are looking to duck into a low key place, where people could careless about what you are wearing, or who you are. And you want cheap drinks. This is the place.
No frills. Exactly what I like.

I really like the ambiance. Nice and dim, cool paintings on the wall. Love the brick. Staff was awesome, drinks were reasonably priced for a 6^th street bar.
Saw Blowfly. Sound guy was doing his job well.
Would definitely venture there again for a show. I especially enjoyed Bushwick Bill randomly showing up as well as the MC who kept us entertained between sets.

311 is filthy and nasty. The ladies restrooms are out of there. The stalls are being held up with buckets and duck tape. No soap… no paper towels. The floors are gross in the restrooms and in the club itself. Im calling the Bar Experts for 311. 311 needs to be saved. So here is a suggestion. Spend some money and RENOVATE!!! 311 I hope never be part of Groupons.

The music that particular night was great, and there were not a lot of people there which was nice so we could actually get a seat. Bathrooms and overall venue smell were horrible.

From older biz trips… Cheap drinks, great R&B, and more at the 311 Club on 6^th Street. Live music offered many nights of the week. Music can be a bit dated… bands can range from very good, to at times lethargic. Just suck down the beer, and listen through your beer-​tainted head phones.

Came here during a bar hopping run on Saturday night. There was a fun, older funk and blues band playing here. They definitely stepped up their game throughout the night, but things started kind of slow. You get the impression that these are guys bored in their retirement or at their current jobs. However, they are decent and can rock out!
The bar itself looks dive-​y as you step in. However, the bathrooms are completely deplorable. I actually opted NOT to go to the bathroom. The doors were all askew, and mysteriously groups go to the bathroom together. For safety? For back-​up? (This was both girls AND guys.) The experience was a bit shady.

When you’re bar hopping in Austin where you can buy a round of drinks for a mere $ 20 with tax and tip included, you really shouldn’t expect much. By much I mean, you get what you pay for. It’s alcohol, it’s a fun time, you grab a round and move on to the next bar /​club.
This place is definitely dingy, and a bit dumpy, but after all it’s supposed to be very dive-​bar like so you can’t really complain. The regulars here put up with the crowds of college youngsters coming through and passing by as they sit quietly at the bar to themselves.
The bartenders are attentive but not friendly … but what the heck you just want a drink! Good place to stop on by, just don’t stay for long!

This place is the definition of suck.
I’ve given it plenty of opportunities to impress me, but it hasn’t. On multiple occasions I’ve been over charged on drinks, either by the bartender bringing me more shots then I ordered or the door guy telling me the wrong specials and finding out when I got my bill that he lied to me. Also, the place is dark, dirty, and their bartenders are a bunch of assholes. I tried to think of an eloquent way to put that but decided on being blatantly truthful. This place is empty for much of the night and for obvious reasons (because it sucks).
Do not go here. Ever. There are many more bars on 6^th to go to rather than waste your time and money here.

I met my wife here. I love this place.

If you just want to listen to some old school R&B while in Austin then this isn’t a bad place to go if you can forgive the awful sound system. The bar itself has nothing to recommend it, it’s a dump run by unsmiling staff serving a poor selection of bad drinks. In an odd way, that is all charming in itself. If you’re not a hardcore R&B fan there is absolutely no reason to go there.

Ok… first of all, I need to warn you: Our party was composed primarily of ‘burb-​ites’. So, we don’t normally haunt 6^th St or even downtown really… except to hear some music from a band we follow, or for a good meal. This review reflects our filters.
We went to hear a friend’s band perform on a Friday night, but because they played early, the crowd was slim. Not Crowded… is the only good thing I have to say about our experience. The music was over-​driven on speakers that must have come over with Noah on the Ark… in other words, overly loud, fuzzy and very indistinct. So, for the music a D-​.
Next was the overall condition of the club. The restrooms were filthy to the point of being a public health hazard. Neither men’s nor women’s restroom doors would stay shut. For a guy, no big deal… for the gals… BIG DEAL! Entire place was dirty as if the last time a broom was seen there was on Halloween! Overall rating for the bar — F.
I was in the Navy and hit a lot of sleazy bars across parts of Asia, Central America and elsewhere (even Philly)…311 Club tops them all for the «sleaziness factor.»
Advice for the Club, if anyone cares: At least sweep up and fix the restroom doors. If we’re all drunk enough, we can put up with a 3^rd world sound system.

Last night, I watched their bouncers violently assault people who had done nothing but _​verbally_​complain about how their friends were being treated.
I’m thinking there’s a lot of pent up rage and steroid use among the bouncer/​bartender crowd that they were just all to happy to release upon the crowd.
Never again.

An Austin icon, has been around over 20 years and continues to play the best R & B cinsistantly in the Austin music scene. A no frills bar that cater to the real truth about the Austin music scene from past to present. Don’t expect alot hoopla, just lay back and enjoy the music away from the hectic pace of the ypougster on the street. Stevie Ray would play here in a minute, and so would Janis. Of course the want a be 34 + somethings hangin on 6^th to to hook up with a 19 to 22year olds wouldn’t know how to appreciate this type of scene. They will just keep spinning in a downward spiral, The 311 Club is a must go to if you enjoy the best of the old time R and B…

311 Club, wow where do you begin and what can you really say about a club that looks like it just might fall down around your ears at any given moment?
LOCATION;
Located on Sixth Street next to a burnt out lot, kinda suits the place actually. It is at least on the good side of Trinity.
DECOR:
What the fudge? The place is crap, looks like a deserted bar from the movie «From Dusk Till Dawn». It’s dirty, nasty and looks like it should be shut down by the Health Department as soon as possible. I mean the damn awning itself, the first representation you get of the bar, is torn, burnt up and the dirtiest thing I think I have ever seen. Nasty place in general.
STAFF:
Staff is nice, do their jobs well, certainly much older than the average Sixth Street bar. Not sure what they are doing working here.
DRINKS:
Well their drinks, end of story.
MUSIC:
Sucks. Bands play here a lot and there usually no more than 3 – 5 people watching them. It’s usually some kind of bad blues band early in the night with questionable DJ choices late at night. At night this place gets rough and becomes unsafe.
CROWD:
The only crowd they get is later at night and it’s a rough crowd looking to fight so stay away and make sure you aren’t hanging out in front of this place after hours. Trust me it’s not safe.
Overall, you should avoid this bar. At least until they clean up the place, clean up their crowd and make it a little safer. 99.999% of us want to go out to have a good time and enjoy ourselves, not to fight or have to fend for our lives.

Drinks are reasonably priced, the music is reasonably bluesy, and the bar staff, I am reasonably sure, is still alive, but just barely. Unless Big T is around, Mr Valentine is quite the gentleman, I miss that dude. Anyway, good for dancing around 1am, when the drunk girls want to dance but you can’t stomach the beat driven music of most clubs, try a little blues on her.
