I got take out the other night. I ordered the chicken Katsu. The chickend was good(pretty much like any other Katsu), but the Katsu sauce was VERY Good IMO. Rice was rice and the macaroni salad was pretty good too. I also ordered teh Hawaiian BBQ Beef Saimin. I was not overly impressed with this dish. The noodles were kind of overcooked. The broth really did not have any flavor and the beef had a great flavor but was really fatty and chewey. The non-fatty parts tasted good, but it was a very small portion of beef. I am sure I will try it again. As noted by other reviewers – the inside needs a little help. The floors were dirty and it is just an old building in which they did not do much to improve the inside other than a coat of paint. I am sure the start up costs were steep, but as soon as you get a little profit, you might want to invest in the interior design/cleanliness.

We’ve driven by it several times and finally stopped in today. I have to say the exterior and interior could use some work. It was very clean. We ordered the Kalua Pork, a Spam masubi, and Loco Moco. All I thought were really good, definitely better than L&L. The Kalua pork was nice and juicy and not too salty. An order came with rice and macaroni salad. The spam masubi was good, and comparable to any other spam masubi I’ve had. Not too sweet. The loco moco was a little salty for me, though it was still delicious. I’ve never had it before, so I don’t know how it should taste, but it definitely had a nice beefy flavor. They also carry fried noodles, katsu, saimin, and sesame chicken wings(which I really want to try). The atmosphere was lacking. I think the A/C has something wrong with it because it made a hideous noise that makes me definitely not want to eat in again. Thankfully, they will be delivering soon(all the way down to Illiff) so I think this will become our new delivery restaurant!

Despite being located on a sketchy part of E. Colfax Ave, I’m glad to see that another Hawaii plate lunch place has opened up in Colorado. This place offers typical plate lunch fare plus musubi, saimin and fried noodles. There is ample parking, the inside is clean and spacious, and the guy behind the counter was really nice. I ordered two entrees: BBQ combo(kalbi, bbq beef, bbq chicken) and kalua pig with cabbage. Extra mac-salad of course. Portion-wise, you don’t get as much meat as most plate lunch places. However, it’s still enough to fill you up. BBQ Combo: The kalbi was a bit fatty, but it was marinated well. It was definitely my favorite of the three meats. The chicken needed to be marinated longer. It only had a hint of flavoring. The bbq beef was more like watered down bulgogi. I pretty much tossed that to the side. Kalua Pig w/Cabbage: Not a bad dish, but they went overboard with the liquid smoke. Mac Salad: Good, not haole-fied. As a bonus, the guy behind the counter gave me a free sample of their bbq pork. It was basically big chunks of char siu in a sweet sauce. It goes over rice really well. I don’t think I would get it as an entrée though. Overall, I’ll come back here to get my plate lunch fix. I really want to try their saimin and fried noodles on the next go-around.

«What the hell is KRC?» I would say as I drove by the unspectacular stand-alone shack on E. Colfax. That mystery may never be solved since KRC is no more. Meanwhile, T&T Hawaiian Barbecue has moved in. T&T is an old school fast-food style eatery that reminds me of some of the ramshackle businesses I grew up with: upstart independents trying to carve out a living in the carcasses of old fast food empires. T&T isn’t entirely bad, they just aren’t very good. Their roast pork is overly sweet and way overcooked for my taste. Their Kahlua chicken was decent(a little on the salty side), but not enough to bring me back. They have an extensive menu featuring musubi and other bbq’d creations, but ultimately I was too underwhelmed to return.
