During the past year, I’ve been researching boating and obtained my Washington State boater’s certification. I started looking for our first boat in the Tacoma metro area and didn’t have a good experience with a local boat sales dealership.
I started researching boat sales dealerships and stumbled across River City Boat Sales and Marine Services. I found a boat that looked like it might be a good first time buyer’s special so I called to inquire. I spent over 30 minutes on the phone with the owner Ken. He was very informative and I felt that my wife and I could trust him. We found a very nice older boat and offered to put a deposit down until we could see it in person. Ken told me he would hold the boat without a deposit.
We drove 3 hours to Oregon and found a this very impressive dealership located right on the water. Ken and his associates met us and spent about an hour going over the boat, followed by a water test run. The boat checked out excellent and we decided to purchase the boat.
Ken’s staff spent about a day detailing this beautiful boat and completed a full service on it prior to us departing. They made sure everything was working and that our vehicle was properly prepared for the road.
This was one of the easiest transactions we’ve ever made and we really depreciate the level of customer service we received. When it comes time to upgrade to a larger boat, we will be back. I feel that the dealership is honest, but most of all, they operate more like a professional service rather than a dealership. Most of all, I appreciated the honesty and the quality work they put into the boat we purchased. I’ve looked at a lot of boats similar in size and age, and none were as good of shape as what we purchased.

These guys are great. Advice is always top notch and the Boats are too. Great place for Parts, Service, Detailing, and I would have to assume boat sales. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Go see them for boat parts and service.

I have a boat on Lake Oswego that needed some basic servicing for my Yamaha 90 4-​stroke outboard, equipment replacement (lowrance structure scanner, transducer), etc. Logistically, there is only 1 entry point for boats on the lake (through Lake Corp off McVey). To make things easier, I set up a time 5 weeks in advance for River City Boats to pick up my boat with their trailer. I was told a time would be set up with Lake Corp for pick up and I would be notified by them 1 week before the scheduled date. 3 days before the drop off date, I had not heard from them so I called. They had no record of my appointment! I was told at that time that someone would call me within 24 hours to work something out and of course after no phone call during that time frame, I called and again was told that they didn’t have a clue what was going on. The person I talked to was friendly enough and I was given the excuse that this was their busy season and to try again after the summer season! I have to say that I have run into some of the worst service since moving up to Lake Oswego from Irvine, California as this was not the first time something like this has happened over the past year. The economy must be doing so well up here that people don’t want any extra business.

Easy place to stop for last minute marine/​boating items. It’s just off I-​5. We were heading to Portland to float on the Willamette below the Blues Fest on the Waterfront and realized we didn’t have our river anchor. I hopped on Unilocal and immediately located River City Boats. They had the anchor we needed and it was only $ 17. Great deal. We were back onto I-​5 in no time.

My husband and I had been researching boats online for along time, but really needed to step foot on one. We realized that Pontoon Boats are not big on the west coast, River City was the only dealer in the Portland area that advertised Bennington Pontoon Boats. We were greeted by the owner of the dealership, Ken, who got us on a boat. It was such a great experience, talking to Ken is like talking to a friend, not a salesman, we left there knowing we were going to buy a boat from them. A week or so later we received an email from Ken just checking in with us and asking how our brand new baby, Henry was doing, I don’t even recall telling Ken Henry’s name and was so impressed he took the time to remember that detail. We kept correspondence with Ken and a couple months later at the Portland Boat Show River City dominated the show with their selection of boats, despite the hundreds of people shopping around Ken and Troy spent over an hour with us addressing all our questions and concerns. We had a custom Bennington Pontoon Boat built for us. Ken not only helped us with all the options that we wanted, he also helped us with our financing. I would recommend River City Boat Sales to anyone interested in buying a boat.
