Looking for local spots to run & walk I came across Piney Creek Trail. I’ve been on this trail a few times & each time is a different experience. Most of the time I park at the Trails Recreation Center & hit the trail there. If you are starting at the recreation center and want to take the trail east follow the sidewalk along the parking lot. If you are going to head west you head over the creek towards the skatepark. I keep forgetting this and end up doing a loop around the skatepark before coming back to the parking lot. I’ve enjoyed the view along the trail. It makes running a bit more pleasurable. This trail would be 4 stars for me if it weren’t for the flooded detour as you go east. There is a detour through the neighborhood, but it is hard to follow and I end up lost. If you’re looking for a nice 2 mile loop, park at the Trails Rec center and head west. Instead of following the trail to Cherry Creek State Park veer to the left and you’ll end up in a neighborhood. It helps to have a gps so you can find your way through the subdivision, but once you do it you’ll get the hang of the route. I also like parking at the trail head at Parker & Orchard. There is plenty of parking in back behind the businesses. This is a good place to start if you’re looking to venture into Cherry Creek State Park or journey along the Cherry Creek Greenway Trail.
