There are better made dress shoes than those of Johnston & Murphy, but it’s hard to top their vast selection of styles. They’ve been a godsend for my personal tastes. The square toed trend isn’t finding a home in my closet, lest I be mistaken for a Pilgrim, and I generally stay away from pointed toes, lest I be mistaken for a European. I’m not going to be clad in Armani riding a moped anytime soon, right? The classics never go out of style, and Johnston & Murphy has an excellent selection of them. They have one of the largest clearance racks I’ve ever seen for a quality shoe store, and it is easily the best organized. I’m extremely picky with my shoes, and I must have tried on ten to fifteen pairs. The salesman assisting was very helpful and polite, but not the meddling type that can make an involved shopping experience all the more tiring. I ended up going with one of the newer pairs available, but be sure to comb the clearance racks thoroughly. There are several dozen varieties of styles and colors for each half shoe size available, so there’s a good chance you’ll find something you like. If you’ve got old school taste in shoes, they’ve got plenty of old school answers.
