I stumbled across this cannery when searching for long-term food storage options. While it is run by the LDS, it is open to anyone which is pretty cool. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’m not LDS, but the volunteers were all incredibly nice and helpful. They offer a selection of products that are pre-packed(selection varies) or you have the option to can your own food(provided by them). They are happy to step you through the canning process if you haven’t done it before. If you opt to can your own, then you must process the entire bag/box of what you are canning. If you don’t want to purchase everything you can, the extras go on the shelf for others to buy. This is a great place to get everyday staples such as flour, rice, sugar, beans, dehydrated carrots, apples and onions, dehydrated milk, pasta, etc. The most food is available in 3 packaging options: #10 cans, vacuum sealed pouches, or bulk bags/boxes. The cans are rated for long-term food storage and can be kept for up to 30 years without going bad. Their prices also can’t be beat — 25 lbs of sugar for $ 15, a #10 can of dehydrated apples for $ 5.70, etc. Due to FDA regulations, they don’t let you bring in outside food to can at their facility. You can, however, check out one of their machines for a week if you wish to can in your own home.
