I was here for an Evening with Peter Bogdanovich and a screening of the movie he directed, The Last Picture Show. This was the inaugural event for the Westobou Festival 2014. I wasn’t familiar with him but I was familiar with the movie. On a episode of one of my favorite shows, City Confidential, they did a profile of the city that this movie was shot in. I won tickets to this event and was kind of excited to witness it because in my normal life I wouldn’t have gotten a chance to be a part of it. It was a breeze going into the movie. Tickets were taken at the door and the ushers assisted you to your seat. I had a fairly close seat to the stage. The beginning of this event started with an introduction of the sponsors and the people who made this event possible. Then Mr. Bogdanovich was introduced and brought out. There was about a 20 minute interview done before the screening of the movie. He talked about his life with his parents, how he got his start, things he worked on, movies he directed, and how he chose his actors and actresses for his projects. He was very candid and once he talked I realized he was kind of a big deal. I would do my research later and find out some great facts. He introduced the movie and it began. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy the movie at all. I don’t know what it was but I didn’t like it. I think it was that the plot was all over the place and the story was kind of weak. After the movie there was a question and answer section for the audience. I had a question for Mr. Bogdanovich but decided not to ask it. I wanted to know from his expertise how can he tell when a movie was directed well, because while he was being interviewed he said about a particular movie that the movie was acted well but it wasn’t directed well. I was honored to be in the presence of this Hollywood legend!!! He has been nominated for Oscars and many other awards and he was in my all time favorite movie, Kill Bill, and he has so much respect for one of my favorite directors too, Quentin Tarantino!!! I will remember this night for the rest of my life!!!

I’ve visited the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre on the campus of Georgia Regents University several times and I’ve always had a good experience. The venue is spacious. The restrooms are easily accessible. The staff is very accommodating. They’ll walk you to your seat if needed. The inside of the theatre is easy to navigate. The seating is arena style and you can sit very close to the stage or far away. I’ve never attended an event where the tickets specified your seating area. You typically get to choose on a first come basis. The parking is located towards the back of the theatre and there is a nice walking path/courtyard that links you from the lot to the theatre. Because the venue is on the campus of Georgia Regents University, you get a great view of the campus. If you are attending an event when school is in session, close parking to the venue could be limited, but there are plenty of spaces in the lot. No complaints. Cool venue.
