I’ll start by admitting that southern fare/meat and three joints are not my favorite. It’s just not really my thing. That being said, this place was all right. I decided that after four years at the university, I really needed to try more local eats, so that’s why I found myself at Veggies to Go. I got pork chops with green beans and creamed corn. The green beans were really soggy and gross, but everything else was good. The corn bread was delicious. The staff was very friendly and seemed to be moving very fast, in a good way, to keep up with all of the customers.

This place is an oasis in the middle of fast food row. Just stopped in to get something different and had the best southern home cooking. Got the four vegetable plate and was very pleased. I will definitely return. If I lived here I would eat here every day!

Somehow has the best eat in fried chicken in Auburn as its name would otherwise suggest

Typical southern meat and three type place, with take out available. You can choose 1 meat + 1, 2, or 3 vegetables and bread; or a veggie plate(4) for $ 5.99 Extra meat is $ 3.50, extra side is $ 1.00, extra bread is $.50 Pretty decent selection of meats, fried chicken, fried chicken tenders, fried catfish, chicken fried steak, baked chicken, meat loaf; and then black eyed peas, green beans, collards, squash casserole, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. I had the baked chicken along with green beans, squash casserole, fried okra, and cornbread. The baked chicken was excellent. Cooked with skin on, the flavor was very good. They used a dry rub which seemed to consist of paprika, pepper, salt, and a little cajun spice. It was really moist. The fried okra tasted as if it came from a bag. It was heavily breaded and lacked flavor. I had to use either hot sauce, ketchup or salt for it. Green beans were mediocre… very bland, but a good portion. The squash casserole was the highlight of the veggies for me. Plenty of cheese, squash, and a little bit of breadcrumbs. Not overly buttery, and well-seasoned. The cornbread was bland. I give it three stars because they have decent sized portions for a relatively high price. The quality was spotty(Great for chicken/squash casserole, bad for okra and mediocre for green beans and cornbread)– but that’s kinda what you’d expect. Be sure to print out a coupon for $ 1 off.

Our kids had the chicken fingers and they were great. Veggies were good too. Cornbread was cold, but would go again.

Some things are really good here and some are just ok. I’m a fan of the country fried steak and lima beans. Quick service.

Do not be deceived like I was. This is not a vegetarian restaurant. I didn’t eat here. I’m giving it 3 stars to be neutral.

Veggies to Go is okay, but not the best. However, it’s cheap. They serve southern ‘soul’ food that is, without needing to be said, incredibly unhealthy, but it hits the spot. I typically order the country fried streak with mashed potatoes, creamed corn, and squash casserole. The quality is not so great, but it fills you up and satisfies the urge for comfort food. I have a feeling that the food is prepared way ahead of time and kept in warming trays in the back, so it’s basically ready to order. The enjoyment of your food could vary depending on how long it’s been sitting back there. Additionally, the interior is not very nice, but not unacceptable. There are your typical tables and chairs and a few freezers with food supplies in plain sight. The atmosphere is not necessarily comfortable given the kind of food you’re eating, so I would just take it home. All in all, I would just say this place is good for a quick comfort food fix, but I think there’s better places for it out there. I still need to try Pannie George’s… Hmm.

This is a southern comfort-food kind of place, so if that’s what you’re looking for then you will probably be happy. I don’t understand why it’s called«Veggie’s To Go», though. I was expecting something completely different. Yes, they have veggies, but this should not imply that this restaurant is a healthy food alternative, and certainly is nowhere close to a vegetarian restaurant. The veggies, while tasty, are typically covered in butter/lard and salt. If any nutrients survive the cooking process, I’d be surprised. Also, the name implies you’ll be «in and out» fast with a to-go order; it’s no faster than any restaurant, and slower than most. Finally, since you won’t be going anywhere fast, you’ll be spending time inside, and the décor has the feel of a break room /cafeteria. I think this place means well, and the food is actually pretty good, but they get one star lower from me because of their misleading name.

Um, are we sure that this should be labeled as vegetarian? One of my roommates from my college days worked here and the vegetables were definitely cooked in animal lard. Don’t get me wrong, the food is okay if you’re looking for a Southern meal, but nothing great.

whenever i came to visit my family over the years from san francisco, i always make myself visit this place. i think there was one in opelika but it’s not there anymore. i love this place… the price is very good and the veggies are delicious. now that i moved to auburn, i haven’t been there as much. one thing i don’t like is waiting… everytime i go there i had to wait so long for my food.

I really like this place even though it has the cheap cafeteria feel to it. I ordered grilled catfish which took longer to make than the other stuff since when I ordered, the 8 people that were behind me all got their fried orders of chicken and fish sticks before I did. I also ordered black-eyed peas but I think the best vegetable award in this meal went to the okra and tomato. The sides are huge so don’t over-order thinking that vegetables aren’t going to fill you up. You get cornbread with this as well. The servings are large and even though it’s on the pricey side(I ended up paying $ 9 for meat+2 veggies+1 drink), the portions are worth the price. I’m definitely coming back to try their other vegetables. They serve them in cups and they’re all hot and have this strange comfort to them that I haven’t seen in a place whose niche is the vegetable sides.

This place is NOT a vegetarian place. I have to admit: the name did keep me away for a while until I found out that it was a southern cuisine restaurant. The food here is GREAT. Fantastic country fried steak, fried chicken, cream corn, squash casserole, green bean casserole, the list goes on and on! Is it the best southern food ever? No. But it gets 5 stars because the food is consistently great, and it’s nice when you can count on a restaurant. If you want to sit around and wait for an hour go to the Strutting Duck, but if you want the same food in a slightly less exciting atmosphere without waiting around… hit up Veggie’s 2 Go.

Don’t let the name fool you. It’s not a place for vegetarians. I don’t think anything here has any kind of food suitable for vegetarians. They cook their beans with pork in it. The gravy is on most everything that they can put it on and the gravy is made from the fat of the animals that they cook. I don’t think they use separate utensils for the various food products, so you’re getting meat in almost any order you choose. This is why I like this place. I’m not a vegetarian and I think that the food they serve there is decent down home cookin’. It’s not great by any means, but It’s decent.
