So I posted a review with my displeasure with this place, and the owner sent me an insulting compliment. «Whahaha you come with 2 person then they eat everything, only you didn’t eat 2 peace, I saw your video to, you have to learn how to order your food okay, then talk bad, you have to tell the employees less Sause that’s it but you never give the restaurant 5 star not even 3 star, that’s y your life is poor sorry about u.» — owner of Ninja sushi I’d like to first point out that I did not post any videos, I did not eat all my sushi or dine with 2 other people, and that I have given 3, 4, and 5 star reviews on Unilocal for restaurants and other businesses. I noticed another customer receiving similar treatment when complaining about their experience. Rather than address any real issues, the owner seems to blame customers for their poor food. The owners response, basically, was that it was my fault for not asking the waitress to remove a sauce I’ve never tasted before. Not sure how I was supposed to preemptively make that decision? If ordering my food the way it comes on the menu is wrong, then you need to change the menu. If your upset with your poor reviews, try improving instead of insulting people who should be your patrons. Never going back, and I will go out of my way to make sure anyone I know, never goes there either.

Someone from this dump just responded to my review and did not 1) apologize 2) take accountability or 3) as how they could improve their quality. Rather, it was a diatribe of how wrong I was, I ordered the wrong thing, and the guy who was working«supposedly» just got in a car accident and lost both parents(highly unlikely) 1) they never addressed the issue of not having soap in their customer/employee bathroom, 2) horrible quality of food 3) and if your an employer that makes your employees work under emotionally difficult times then you deserve all the negative reviews one can give By the way the dude who wrote that wrote me the nasty note back was the same man who picked his ears and nose and was wearing sweatpants and texting on his phone behind the sushi counter

No no nanette ! Stunk when we came in. And Now I say. Why Why did We eat here. the albacore was BAD. I told the sushi chef and he was very offended. I’m the one eating it ! Im offended your offended. Brown albacore. Nooooo. Other rolls not fresh. I will not be back. Beware. Don’t say I didn’t tell you so ! Good thing I love saki ! Answer to reply. No We did not eat everything. We took of the bad fish and anything touching it. By the way fresh albacore is NOT mushy or taupe. It is light pink or opaque. I probably wouldn’t be so harsh but the staff was not nice. And it was the truth.

One of the largest selections of rolls. I have had sushi all over the world including Japan. The best roll I have had in a long time was the sweet berry. The strawberries are an amazing complement to the salmon. The portions are huge and everything tasted super fresh!

Ninja Sushi is our favorite local restaurant — and the kids love it. We take all our out-of-town visitors and they always think it’s fantastic. Great sushi for a great price! Our favorite rolls are the Spider Man(soft shell crab), Flaming Dragon and Godzilla. I’m sure we’ll be back again soon.

The Miso soup was not that great. The sea steak was very good. Rolls were very good. The service was quick. The ambience was odd.

I went on sat myself down and ordered. The atmosphere was great however we were two out of four people sitting. Service was great. I did notice imitation crab was mixed in with my food… and won’t order anything with crab again. I will stick to the spicy tuna and salmon. I did feel rushed because it was near 3 and they close from 3 – 5 and mentioned it a couple times. We were in and out by 315. Didn’t realize the hours.

After reading the reviews my friend and I decided to have lunch at Ninja Sushi. There’s only one other sushi place in Auburn and it’s not that great. The first thing I noticed was the sushi chef dipping his hand(only the hand he used to handle the fish) in some receptacle of water and then wiping it dry with a rag. He continued this throughout his preparation of each dish. Instead of washing both hands using a kitchen sink like I see sushi chefs do. The water is no longer clean after you dip your hand the first time. The plate my sushi roll was served on looked as though it hadn’t been washed. There was dried food around the outer rim and underneath the plate. The soy sauce containers had drippings on them and we’re stuck to the counter. The Thai Chicken dish my friend ordered was plated very sloppy. Sauce running down the side of the bowl. Come on! The lunch special of 2 rolls and 3 pieces of Nigiri had some white creamy sauce squirted on top of one of the rolls that was very off putting if you know what I mean. And the other crunchy roll, the crunch had a burnt taste. The sake vase was also dirty. Even the check holder had food fingerprints on it. When I pointed out the dirty plate, the hostess just said ‘Oh, Ok’. The 3 pieces of Nigiri I had wasn’t very fresh either. The case with the fish was in disarray. I’m a very discriminating foodie. An excellent cook myself who hardly eats out because of the very things I write here. I’ve always known Japanese culture to be very clean. This place was not. I do not recommend this restaurant for the very reasons stated in this review.

Did lunch there for the first time in years. Don’t know why I don’t eat there more. I had the #12 lunch(2 half told and 3 nageri of chefs chose.). Enjoyed all of it. Filled me up and then some. Clean restaurant and friendly service. Not much else to say.

Typically really like this place. Food is consistently good. Have had a few service issues before but nothing to prevent me from coming back. Also It would be nice if they opened on time!

Ordered takeout and was told 20 minutes. Waited 5 – 10 minutes then made the 15 minute drive. I don’t think they even started my order until I arrived because i paid, then waited another 15 minutes before it was ready. The flavors were bland compared to any other sushi I’ve had including homemade. Hubs ordered the teriyaki roll, that was a mistake: dry and flavorless. My role was huge but the flavor was just OK. I’d rather have less volume and higher-quality. Baffled at how this place could have received the best in Auburn award other than for its central location. There are better sushi options in Auburn.

My boyfriend and I ate here tonight for the first time, after always driving to our favorite spot in Roseville. I don’t know if we will ever have to drive down there again! Service was excellent and the rolls were PHENOMENAL! So flavorful and filling. New favorite sushi spot hands down, and it’s a short walk from home. I’m in love. Auburn is lucky to have this gem.

The beef teriyaki was like beef jerky. The chicken teriyaki was skimpy on avocado. Both Rolls couldn’t even be taken off the play without falling apart. I did enjoy The miso soup. The Gyoza was good also.

I gave them two stars because they have good service & are friendly. The sushi on the other hand is gross. If you’re used to high quality sushi don’t waste your time here. Came back a second time to see if my mind changed but it wasn’t good & my flaming roll was not served in tin foil like it was supposed to be

Really good sushi. Some rolls are better than others. I would avoid the sexy mango one because there is a strange sauce and the flavors do not meld well. The cherry blossom is a lovely simple roll that is quite good, the Fancy roll was good as well b/c of the variety of sauces it comes with. Be ready to spend quite a bit of time looking at their huge menu selection. Good atmosphere, great downtown location with lots of parking across the street.

As I’ve become more and more fond of sushi, I’d have to say that this place is my favorite in Auburn for sushi. I’d stated that I liked a different local business in another Unilocal review, but I’ve changed my thinking. The roll I got today was the Bubble Bubble-it was delicious and filling. Deep fried asparagus, avocado, cucumber with crabmeat on top and all the proper additions. The waitress was a doll, the sushi chef(owner) is super friendly, quick and always has ESPN on(win). I had some good recommendations for a Mango Roll and Lemon roll, and I’d like to get a little more adventurous and try other menu items one of these nights when I can enjoy some Saki ;) Right on, guys! I love my little town of Auburn.
