I have been eating at Green Shutters for the last forty years, through a number of owners and managers. Last night I ordered a roast beef sandwich to take out. I took it home and shared it with my husband. It was unquestionably the worst sandwich either of us had ever experienced. The meat(we aren’t sure it was beef– my husband notice a shred of what looked like fried chicken) was in small ground up lumps, with the main portion of «meat» being in chewed up sheets of some sort of inedible, tough meat by-product. My best guess is that someone had gotten remnants from meat slicer cleaning out of the garbage. We won’t be going back This is my first ever negative review on Unilocal,or anywhere.

We had a nice Sunday lunch at Green Shutters on our way home from camping. The food was good and the waitress was very nice. The seating indoors was comfortable and we didn’t have to wait very long for our food.

Unless you have all day to wait do not go to this restaurant. No matter when you go there weekend or weekday the service is terrible you will wait forever. The location is very nice and you’ll get an hour and a half to enjoy it waiting for your meal.

Stopped in after kayaking the Owasco Flats to get ice cream but decided to eat. Start off by washing hands, no soap in men’s room, staff indifferent when told so I used the woman’s room. Sat at a dirty table for 5 minutes b4 someone cleans it. Ordered kids chicken tenders with onion rings, one fish dinner with coleslaw and a hamburger with mac salad. After 15 minutes we were told they are out of coleslaw, we substituted potatoe salad. Another 5 minutes, waitress tells us they are redoing the fish(new cook). After 25 minutes we get our food. Fries instead of onion rings(I’m so sorry), no tartar sauce with fish(oh sorry). Hamburger comes plain, asked where the lettuce, onions and tomatoes are(oh sorry) then they bring me two tomatoe slices off the ends of a very small tomatoe. .We sit another 2 – 3 minutes waiting for silverware(I’m so sorry). I try the potatoe salad and immediately spit it into a napkin, obviously spoiled. Ask for another mac salad(oh I’m sorry). Had to secure or own ketchup from another table, when she brings it to us(oh sorry for the wait, I see you found it yourself). As we eat we watch staff scoop ice cream(we were going to have ice cream for our desert). Staff are not using gloves,. One girl repeatedly leaves the scoop in the container(after handling it with no gloves) to bring the cones to the customer first, then she comes back and removes the scoop from the container and puts it in the hot water bath. Cleanliness is not on this place’s radar, nor is speed or food quality. They use young inexperienced staff and don’t have enough of them. The countertops were cleared but never wiped as three people came and left. The couple to our right had a sandwhich and the cook used the heal of the bread. Very disturbing to see how they serve ice cream — and a lot of customers are there just for that treat. We counted how many times our server told us or others«I’m sorry” — 13 times. We were sorry that we gave this place our money, never again.

Love this place for ice cream and hanging with the family in the summertime. They are open, under new ownership. Friendly servers.

Charming restaurant with inviting outdoor seating. Locals rave about the new management. The menu prices were attractive and considerate, especially with above average portions. There was a rush of customers waiting to be seated when we first got there and room was tight in the restaurant for the hostess to direct us all. I wish they had a dedicated area for this purpose. You can tell she was flustered and out of her comfort but I do commend her for remaining pleasant. I would suggest making a reservation for dinner. After being seated, we realized the host was also our waitress and server. The staff reminds me of that old southern charm. They care for their customers as if they were their own neighbours. The onion rings were probably the best I’ve had. Each bite was clean with the onion not removing itself from its breading. How did they do that? The hot dog was decent, though I appreciated how it wasn’t salty. For $ 3.99 with fries and a pickle, it’s a reasonable deal. I substituted with sweet potato fries and I found them better than Johnny Rockets. I’m also not a big fan of mozzarella sticks but I loved them here. It was light and the cheese had a distinct flavour not common with those experienced in typical fast food joints. Everyone else was thoroughly satisfied with their meal. My dad had a Reuben sandwich and considered it much better than his own. My mom had the fish dinner and she was pleased. My boyfriend had the meatball sub. Initially, the meat wasn’t anything special by itself but it was delicious when all the components were put together. Ice cream is the same as Tom Thumb! It’s great to have a buzz like this in a place that is often so peaceful. Overall, I give this place a 3.5. Though, it’s hard not to give it a 4 as I could see myself coming here often.

Great place to eat! New management has done wonders! Good specials all the time and great service! Great to eat outside and take an ice cream over to Emerson park for a walk! Not sure about this year but last year they had some great music once in a while too!
