Great bookstores are getting harder and harder to find. I am a book nut and love visiting Comstock’s Bookstore. It’s the kind of store that you can get lost in and find surprising treasures. Great place to buy books for someone special and to keep your nightstand well stocked. Excellent science fiction and fantasy stock. The best military, naval, and aviation stock anywhere. The romance, mystery, and general fiction shelves are well stocked. Westerns galore. Excellent history and non-fiction areas including art, crafts, and even martial arts. Great place in downtown Auburn !

I’ve been buying books here since I moved to Auburn a few years back. I love this store, because of it’s huge selection I can always find someting to read here. The gentleman who is part owner of the store is very friendly and helpful. One of the unique things about this store is it is also a bindery. That is really what drove me to write this review. I own many old books and decided to take one I use often to be rebound. The job done is amazing. I honestly believe the book will last longer than me at this point. It looks beautiful. The new binding is professional & tight, he even replaced the ribbons. I’ll admit it wasn’t cheap, but it was completely worth it. I have a few more books that need re-binding and I’m absolutely taking them in to be done. Until then I’ll keep going in to buy used books to add to the piles I already own. :-)

Its a mom and pop book store, It had a giant selection! Its a tad cluttered and not greatly organized and I didnt like how the books were piled on top of each other, It was hard to find things, But I loved the selection. The prices were reasonable for being used books, The owner was rather rude but Im sure when running a small business in the middle of Auburn someone probably always ruins youre day, I found it could be over looked, But some might take offense I honestly was directed to the books I was looking for and saw others I would love to add to my collection. The perk was the extremely sweet store cat which was very nice. Bottom line if you are looking for out going customer service I wouldn’t waste my time, But If you are looking for a giant selection of used books and old first editions and such that’s the place to go in the area, They seem very knowledgeable which is rare to find and like I have stated many times A GIANTSELECTION! But not alot of space.

I come here on a fairly regular basis to trade-in books and to browse for new ones. This bookstore is HUGE. Everything is well organized into categories and then by author. If you are looking for something in particular, just ask and they will help you find it(if they have it). They have some very sweet kitty cats to love on while you are checking out. In my experience, they have given me very good credit for the used books that I have brought in. They can’t accept everything, but what they do take they give me very fair prices for. The books they sell are also priced pretty fairly. They have a lot of hard to find books and some great classics that I remember from my childhood. The owners are helpful and nice and will hold a conversation with you. I haven’t used their binding services yet but I wouldn’t hesitate to so if I needed it. I would definitely recommend this book store to anyone in the area.

Old books, rebound and rare books. I like the older military and aerospace books and magazines here. Some of this material is very difficult to find. The glass case at the cashier for example has some some extinct 1940s magazines whose front covers would be considered politically-incorrect today, but were meant to scare the sh** out of everyone in America as the Huns and the asian-devil-dogs fought their way to the US. But these older magazines has $ 200+ tags on them. This shop also carries a huge set of used aerospace material– probably because of the proximity to Boeing related companies around Seattle. Old«Airpower» or «Wings» magazines, that were sold for $ 3.95 in the 1980s or 1990s are sold here for about $ 2.95. I found the pricing strange because it’s high for ‘used’ magazine. It was explained to me that the store was not so much a used book store but a repository where they keep a big inventory on this material. In any case, if you’re interested in this material, it is a great place to kill a couple of hours.

This is the first place I come for books. They have a huge selection and they’re always helpful when I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for. Another bonus; they’re cheap. Unless the one you’ve got is a first printing or something.

Comstock’s is a little mom-and-pop used bookshop in downtown Auburn. You’re guarenteed to find something you’ll love there. Here’s the thing: you’re not going to find the latest New York Times bestseller here. As a matter of fact, if you’re looking for any specific book you’re probably not going to find it, unless it’s a very common book. Comstock’s is full of old obscure books you’ve never seen before. If you’re looking for a random book as a gift for someone, or if you’re just a big nerd who could spend hours in a bookstore, this is the place for you. Note: They have at least two cats that live in the store. I personally think this is awesome, but if you are allergic or if you hate cats then you probably wouldn’t like Comstock’s.

Used bookshops are an old vice of mine. Like Erasmus said, When I have a little money, I buy books — if there’s any left over, I buy food and clothes. That said, this is perhaps the most frustrating bookshop I’ve been in for years. There appears to be a decent amount of stock. The problem is, while things are organized reasonably well by topic, there’s no filing beyond that I could figure out. It’s not by author’s name; it’s not by title. That’s a mixed blessing, of course. If you’re willing to spend the time and take a browser’s attitude, you’ll be fine. If, like me, you have a number of fields you’re interested in, and just want to learn quickly whether they have some longstanding needs… Well, good luck on the«quickly» part. You’ll have to look over every book on a given topic, just to find out what they have.
