Working with Stu has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had during any of my trainings. I contacted Stu for help getting past a few mental roadblocks while training for my first marathon. I do not enjoy running but wanted to run the Boston Marathon for a charity that meant a lot to me. Despite the meaningfulness of the accomplishment and the fear of such a big goal, I really struggled to meet my daily workout plans.
Stu talked to me about what I was struggling with and really heard what I had to say. Other people told me ‘just do it, you have to’ or wanted to give me a textbook answer. Stu worked with me and my constraints to come up with a plan that work. He helped me work out how to motivate myself based on my unique needs and how to make and reach more attainable goals for my circumstances. During such a difficult time for me, it was really nice to have someone understand that there is more to what holds us back and work with my to get past that.
As I stood at the starting line a million thoughts ran through my head, like most people I could see all the areas I could have done better. However, just before it started, I looked around and realized I was taking part in a great event and had an incredible journey getting there. Stu helped me learn more about myself, beyond running, and in that moment there was nothing else I could have asked for. I will definitely work with Stu again for my next event and highly recommend him to anyone look to improve their performance in professional or recreational sports.

I have been practicing martial arts (BJJ, Judo) for the past 13 years and have experienced limited, sporadic success in competition. Also, I have never been able to establish a consistent training routine due to the fear of competitive sparring, intimidation, and pure laziness. Desperately searching for the guidance to help me get out of my own way and perform at my full potential I came across Stu.
From the first hour-​long phone session (from the comfort of my own home) I immediately felt better. Honestly, it felt like I dropped a weight I had been carrying for years! The «mindfulness» of the many thought distortions I was bringing to my training produced an immediate positive effect. First, I got back on the mat after a two year hiatus. Second, being able to identify why I was so tense and intimidated before a competitive match was profound!
I have to add that Stu’s price was super affordable! Way cheaper than any sports psychologist I found in NYC. Plus, I really didn’t want to have sit down in someone’s office. I am very happy having our sessions over the phone, sitting on my own couch with a pen and paper to jot down helpful notes.
Since working with Stu, I have identified many of the psychological barriers that have prevented me from training and competing to my full potential. In addition, I have committed to a consistent training schedule and am actually enjoying the process of getting back into shape. The best part… I have never competed better in my life! Stu has changed my previous conceptions of how to be successful in sports and helped me changed the exhausting methods I would apply. My old tense, fear-​based training approach has transformed to a relaxed, fun, and even risk-​taking challenge! For the first time in my life I am actually enjoying competition!
I have also felt improvement in my overall well being. I’m able to apply the work we’re doing to my professional and daily life. I look forward to our sessions and always feel inspired when we talk.
