I ate here with my family as a group of 12. The service was great! The owner and his family are really pleasant people. BBQ was really good. Yes they did microwave my plate for a minute after they fixed it, but that didn’t bother me. I’d much rather food getting a «warm up» than getting cold food. I suspect some other places do this too, we just don’t see it happen. I really enjoyed my time there and will certainly return next time I’m in East Texas.

Badly disappointed in the Unilocal contributors who gave this place 4 – 5 stars. For starters, the directions on Unilocal were off by about 8 miles. Based on the reviews, however, I turned around and back tracked to get there. Now when I hear the word BBQ I expect the meat to have seen a smoker at some point. This meat never saw a smoker. They scooped it in to a plate, threw it in a microwave, drenched it in sauce, added a couple descent sides, over charged me, and told me to enjoy. The two ladies working there were GREAT, very friendly! The food on the other hand was not good at all. To all those who gave this place 4 and 5 stars… you really need to get out and learn what Texas BBQ really tastes like!

What a charming experience. Delicious Texas Bbq, southern hospitality, and friendly service. I had the Brisket plate with Mac and cheese with greens. Would eat it again for dinner if they were open. Olé western movies on the Tv and a world class conversation with Tommy and His wife. I see why the locals love it. I Will be back.

So glad we chose to stop at Tommy’s on our drive to MI from Houston. The food was delicious and the BBQ second to none. The ribs are so moist the meat falls right off the bone. The sides all tasted like they were made using recipes passed on through the generations. Tommy and his family were such gracious hosts that when we left, we felt like our family had grown!

Love this hole in the wall. Owners are probably the most friendly people I’ve met. Been eating here all my life. Definitely worth your time! Never gotten something I didn’t like here

On those rare times you find yourself in the Texas country between the towns of Atlanta and Queen City, please do yourself a favor and stop by Tommy’s. You’ll even get to meet old Tommy himself, along with his family who helps run the restaurant. It’s a cute, cozy cabin-like place where you order at the register first and enjoy your meal in the dining area. Don’t expect a silent meal though cause you’ll be intrigued by the families that come in and out, and if that’s not enough, Tommy will stop and chat with you as well. And their food lives up to their service and hospitality. From meat by the pound, to scrumptious sides, to platters and sandwiches, it’ll take you a while(10 minutes for us) to choose what you want. For meats, I suggest trying their brisket and ribs. Brisket is very moist and tasty, with just the perfect amount of fattiness. Be careful with their ribs because they may fall off the bone before it reaches your mouth. No fork and knife necessary. Tender, juicy, and melts in your mouth. I also tried their sausage, which was good, but could have used a bit more bite in the casing. Subtle flavor and filling. Overall, great service, great BBQ, and great pit stop on your way to wherever you’re going!

10:30−3 Tues thru Sunday. Unbelievably great hospitality. Tommy and his wife greet you and make sure you have a great meal. They had a cafeteria line set up and had some pork ribs, brisket, sausage, baked and fried chicken, lima beans, green beans, mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes, cowboy beans with corn and your choice of corn bread or a roll. I am sure I missed a few things here and there. I chose a 2 meat with the sausage and ribs. I liked the smoke level and loved the sauce. The ribs were delicious and the sweet sausage was great too. The potatoes were a little rich but I devoured them and I also liked the cowboy beans. They were a little like a texas chili and I thought I got some ground beef in there. After they plated my meats they set out to sauce them and put them in the microwave and I had to stop them. I don’t love this so if you similarly don’t want your food in that box you should say something, they’re happy to accommodate you. I will definitely be back on my way through.

Authentic, homey, tasty. Tommy’s hit every spot for us when we stopped for a quick lunch. Oh, and friendly. Great chopped beef and yummy sweet ribs. We’ll be back.

Stopped here on my way to Nashville based on the review here and some reviews on other sites(one mentioned driving from Dallas just to eat here). When we walked in it looked very promising. Typically I find the more hole-in-the-wall a place looks like, the better the food. Sadly not the case here. Sides were bad, bbq chicken was bad, ribs were tiny(barely any met on them). Mashed potatoes came from a box and cornbread was totally tasteless. This place is not cheap either, I paid ten bucks for a tiny chicken breast, small corn on the cob(frozen not fresh) and instant mashed potatoes. Wish I had just kept driving.

Does anyone in Atlanta Unilocal?Probably not, but they should! So the other day I was thinking about how there really isn’t any such thing as truly great BBQ in San Francisco, we’re foodies, it’s true, but we just don’t do the whole barbeque thing properly. Thankfully I can get my fix when I go visit the grandparents. And so can you, provided you ever find yourself in the middle of no where East Texas. Tommy’s appeared as a road side barbeque joint a few years ago when the highway 59 construction crew was moving through, but it’s so good that it’s stayed around, even after the construction crew is long gone. Tommy mans the barbeque, his sister Mozelle does sides and desserts, brisket, chicken, catfish, black eyed peas, greens, coconut pie, every fabulously delicious, extremely bad for you southern comfort food you can think of, they do it at Tommy’s. The best part? The portions are HUGE, so there’s always some left for lunch tomorrow. Yum, yum, YUM!
