Went today only to find out, they dont currently have a liquor license. WTF? According to the barrrrrrrrtender(sounding like T-Pain)…they are re-negoitaing their lease. Had the turkery burger, which was surpsising very good and warm. Cant say that about some of my meals in this resturant before, hey… guess u gotta serve up good food with that liquor license being shut down for the moment. Crips applewood bacon on the sandwich and not smothered in mayo either. Damn, maybe they shouldnt give them liquor license back.

Phipps Plaza is such a fancy mall, so you would think that restaurants inside would serve quality food, right? WRONG. Especially American Café. The food below average. Edible, but barely. I tried the chicken pot pie, mac n’ cheese, and the mozzarella sticks. All of the food tasted like packaged frozen food that was heated up in the microwave. Never again will I go there.

Surprised I havent written a review for this place. I have been here too many times with my 1st time being some time in 2005. My most favorite meal on their menu is the French Quarter Salmon Grilled Cajun salmon flet topped with sautéed shrimp and savory Cajun-style cream sauce. Served with seasoned rice. I sometimes get the rice as a side to go order. I also like their ceasar salad, the bread they used to bring to the table(now, i have to ASK. wtf), and spinach dip. They have a margarita special which is like $ 3 for a HUGE glass. Now on mondays, they have all their burgers for $ 5. My friends dragged me there today and i grudgingly ordered the half pound burger with Applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles, mayo and mustard. Got it well done and it was YUMMY. I was only able to finish half but wow im definitely going back again next monday. Our waitress was also pretty cool… i forget her name but i will update if i can. Now it hasnt been all day sunshine with them. One time i got the ceasar salad to go only to find out that the croutons were soft. EUW. Having to ask for that bread is a PITA, and Ive had some pretty bad service.

I really wanted some very light soup today. I drove all the way to the Co’m on buford highway for the crab and asaparagus soup only to be told they don’t have it at the location. I finally remebered my love for the potato cheese soup at American café. I stopped by to pick some up. It’s very cheesy with chunks of potatoes and topped with bacon and scallions.(and extra cheese,) It was a little salty. I think this had to do with the extra cheese topping. Next time I’ll be sure to skip it. They also serve really good bread that is served with a cheese boursin.
