The food is excellent. Very clean inside & out. Very reasonable prices. I recommend this to anyone visiting or full time resident looking for some good food.

A classic southern cafeteria! Don’t miss their chopped steak, chicken pot pie, squash casserole and homemade pies.

If the food or service got any worse they should move this place south of town. Absolutely horrible I can understand bad food or service but not both Hire some new management and help.

This place is a childhood classic for me. I’ve eaten there hundreds of times over the years. Here’s what’s great — fried chicken, chop steak, trout almondine, roast beef. Make sure you get tarter sauce. Veggies — Mac and cheese is the best ever. Green beans are also delicious. All the employees are very nice. The average age in this place is like 80 years old though, so don’t be in a hurry. Good for the price. If you like egg custard pie then you need to grab a slice.

I’m always coming back for… Peach Cobbler! Seriously guys… the best cobbler in all of GA so far: D If there’s better Peach Cobbler, please do tell ;) Their Country Fried Steak, Chopped Steak, Chicken Dumplings, Roast Beef, etc. are all great. Yes this place may not be the first place you’d think of visiting, but don’t knock it till you try it: D Everyone working is super pleasant and polite and I’ve enjoyed the food. Thus, I’m a fan and will continue to come back! :D

I have friends who may raise an eyebrow that I went to an S&S Cafeteria. They may also raise the other eyebrow when I tell them that I had a good time here, and that I’m likely to go back. First of all, the people here were super friendly. Everyone greeted us with a smile. Every courtesy was extended to make sure we had what we needed. Second, the food was simple, southern-style, cafeteria cooking. And it was good. I might have to put the fried chicken up there with some of my other favorites. And my boiled cabbage was just right – not too salty. The environs were okay, too. Everything was clean and well kept. And checking out was a breeze. I’d happily go back. Holler if you’re coming with.

Cracklin Cornbread!!! Need I say more! Ok, I will. This place is a great meat and two cafeteria style southern cooking gem. In a world where southern traditions are not looked upon with a great deal of enthusiasm, S&S is keeping Southern going. Yes, we down in the south eat our vegetables a little over cooked and with maybe a bit more salt than ya’ll not from the South are used to. With that said, go here and enjoy S&S for what it is. Take a step back in time, enjoy the fried chicken, chicken livers, liver and onions, country fried steak, collard greens, boiled cabbage, Mac and cheese, broccoli and rice casserole, green beans, lima beans, pintos, definitely get a piece of Cracklin Cornbread, and wash it down with a tall glass of sweet tea. The desserts are all homemade and delicious. I’ve tried them all, but, be sure to try my favorite the egg custard pie. Just like grandma used to make. Mmmmmm mmm

My Mom I ate here around the Holidays 2014. The food is good, for cafeteria style. But the a la carter pricing can really get ya. I don’t think the food is worth the amount they charge. If you’re in the mood for the classic cafeteria ambience, S & S is great.

I come here when I want a home cooked country meal and don’t want to cook it myself. I recommend dining in over carry out as the portions on the veggies can be a little stingy in those styrofoam containers. But the family likes this place. You can tell they have a lot of regulars and their customer base tends to run a little older in age. Dine in is cafeteria style. You get your tray and pass through the line to select your entrée, sides, etc. Be prepared to be called Hun, baby girl, and other niceties as they plate your food. Hey, it made me smile. :). You pay, seat yourself and dig in. Food was good, not too salty which is expected given the average age of their customers and I prefer that. The apple dumpling was delicious. Definitely one of my no stress, no wait go to places. Warning, carry out should only be used by those familiar with this place. They have a separate entrance and the menu board only displays their staples. In other words you can’t walk through the line and see everything that’s available. If you know what you want then that’s ok. If you’re unsure, take the time to dine in.

I used to work at an office park nearby and the out-of-town branch always wanted to go here whenever they were here. It really wasn’t that bad. The chicken and dumplings were always okay. I liked the fried chicken. Every entrée was saltier than I would have liked but I’ve seen the clientele. The customer is always right, I guess.

Im sure this has been mentioned before but here it goes again. S & S reminds me of Picadilly but not as good IMO. I ate the fried chicken, yams, cabbage, jalepeno cornbread and the banana pudding. The service was good but the food didn’t match for me. I know some think just because its cafeteria style cooking that of course it will be MEH… as the Unilocal rating mentions when selecting 2 stars but I’ve had some very exceptional cafeteria food for example LUBYS, which they dont have here.

Came in for Sunday dinner and I was disappointed. The food was cold roast beef was tough. Also there wasn’t much flavor in the food. Seems like a place that would be better suited for elderly. Totally wasn’t what I was expecting.

Awful — just awful. Took my 82 year old Mother to S & S at this location and she wanted the sliced beef, but it was too bloody. So, she chose the trout almondine which was most likely let over from lunch as it was hard as a brick. Terrible to pay $ 1.45 for a small — real small bowl of black eyed peas — outrageously over priced for what you get and how it tastes — which is really, really bad. They put something in their food — like the peas and mac & cheese that has the weirdest taste — kind of like bad oil — just could not eat it and will not go back. Our clothes even smelled like old butter or oil smell — icky! The sweet tea did not even taste like sweet tea. Management sat right beside us to eat — did not finish their food either and they never asked us how our dinner was. Really sad. Best thing about the place is the Bible resting on a table near the entry.

German chocolate pie(gooey pie version of German chocolate cake) was really good. 2 parents, 2 kids, plus tip was about $ 24(with a few leftovers to take home).

We went for dinner with my Grandma and everyone enjoyed the food! The tea is always great and the veggies are the best. But best of all my Grandma loves the fish! Each fish dish that has ever been offered she has tried and loved after the first bite!

Unabashedly retro food and décor … I was reminded that this location of S & S Cafeteria still exists thanks to a recent Unilocal Review of the Day(Congrats Bill G) … It had been y-e-a-r-s since the last time I stopped in here and nothing has changed whatsoever… The food and the recipes are still the same Southern-style cooking. The dining room is still the same décor as same as it was back in the eighties/nineties… the carpet and the seating are sort of «showing that» as well, but thats part of the allure of S & S Cafeteria. This place is unabashedly retro and proud of it. The service in the dining room is really spot on, with attendants handily refilling drinks and removing plates. The clientle here have obviously been coming here for years and years as they are all middle to senior«age», but thats cool because everybody is acting like an adult and there are no offspring running rampant and melting down(Thank the gods!). Its not retro in a manufactured sense, but rather in the fact they have not changed in their entire existence. Its worth a try to see and experience. But remember, the food is very Southern in its execution. Meaning, there are lots of sauces, fried items and way too much salt being used. As Bill mentioned in his review, the cashier lady is just adorable and she was dressed in her best pink Sunday Gone To Meeting clothes on the day I visited. Love the pink hat, sweetie!

How do you get excited about cafeteria food? And how does a cafeteria actually get«buzz»? I decided to find out for myself — I can walk to this place from home, but I’ve been traumatized by an 84-year-old mother who always wants Piccadilly and I could not believe that it was any better. How could this be any better? Well first, the food was very solid. The food line was appealing and employees were welcoming. I had my favorite, country steak and rice, with cabbage. And a biscuit. And real iced tea. It was all good and I wanted more. It was nothing like the usual cafeteria experience of joyless chewing and swallowing. But that was not what really won me over; it was the really sweet girls waiting on customers and keeping my tea glass full(which was especially impressive seeing how small the glass was and how thirsty I was). They positively hustled, smiling all the time. They took one old customer’s plate and threw it in the microwave, just to make sure it was hot enough. The cashier(probably close to Mom’s age) was an angel. All the customers seemed to know here and love her. And the dining area was brand new and spotless. Some say that Matthews is the place around Tucker for home cooking, but others in the know think it has slipped. S & S, on the other hand, is going strong, and lacks the nasty chairs and tables. If home cooking is what you seek, S&S is what you should try. I’m glad I did.

I have to place a disclaimer that I’m not a big fan of cafeteria food so therefor I might be a bit biased. Went here because boss was gonna take me to lunch. It wasn’t the nicest of work lunches I’ve been too but he loves his southern food and comfort food so he decided to come here. It is what you would expect of it. I’ve heard of comparison of this place vs ma tthews or Piccadilly but while I’ve never visit either of the mentioned restaurants, I can’t make a direct comparison. You walk in, get in line with a tray and start loading up on what you want. They charge by the little plates and portions seems to be reasonable. They start with the salads, move to the dessert and then entry while finishing off with side items. While moving through the line, there are a lot of options and I ended with this on my plate: bowl of salad, chocolate moose pie, roast beef, corn muffin and a side of green beans. My favorite of all the items would be the moose pie, it’s hard to go wrong. But I felt that everything came out of a can. Roast beef was decent but a little chewy(is it supposed to be that way?), corn muffin was a little dry and the green beans was salty. The salad was ok if it had more ranch just to drown it out but what bothered me was the stale and chewy croutons. Overall, it’s ok. This is what comes to mind when people say«southern comfort food» I don’t really think it’s my type of food, but judging from their clientele, they’ve made some life long customers so that gotta stand for something. About their clientele, I’m 25 and pretty sure I was the 3rd youngest person in that entire place to give perspective of how loyal of customers they have. I may be back for that pie or maybe if I just wanted a side of Mac&Cheese if I ran short on time for lunch but.

It’s funny… Folks don’t know what they got until it’s gone. I recently returned to S&S and was pleasantly pleased to see that it hasn’t changed. I love congruity, especially when it comes to the comfort of food, and this place is real comfy food. To help put it into perspective on how it stands compared to other Southern fare it is 95% better than Matthews, but it’s nothing like Mary Mac’s. Matthews is good & convenient, but S&S has a lot more class and flavor plus they do a tasty pimento cheese and some Killer Pies! There are a lot more choices here than most«meat & three» places. It’s hard to deny the rich flavor of history & nostalgia that a place like this can deliver too. I don’t even have to tell you to enjoy this place because I have no doubt you will. Cheers!
