Good meat but the BBQ is way too thick. I love BBQ but this stuff tasted like a chilli. The sweet potato was way too hard, and the potato salad was one of the worst. But couple that with the surround sound and quick service & you get a decent experience.

Closed!!! This place is not open, apparently they had a kitchen fire about a year ago and haven’t been operating since.

Our friend, an Atlanta native, accompanied us to Rolling Bones for some good ol’ barbeque where we indulged in tangy food in epic portions. We each ordered plates which come with a choice of two sides, bread, and sauce(of course!). We chose chicken, beef, and pork. Sides included sweet potato with maple butter, seasoned french fries, mustard greens, Reggie’s baked beans, and succotash. All sides were mouthwatering good and made to our liking… medium hand with the seasonings. The plates, while served in very large portions, were clean as a whistle(or as clean as a barbeque plate can get) after wolfing down every last bit of edibles served to us. The chicken(herb & citrius brine, smoked) was tender and juicy; the cry rubbend, smoked beef brisket was so moist and tender it made me tear(tears of joy, y’know) after the first bite; and the dry rubbed, smoked pork shoulder came shredded and I swear I heard it calling my name. Downright gooooooooooood food at this joint! The converted gas station/garage has a good feel and it’s comfy during the summer months in Hot-lanta. We enjoyed diving into Rolling Bones’ delicious fare and should I ever venture back to Atlanta you know I’ll be visiting Rolling Bones.

OK first of this is TEXAS style BBQ that you are able to get in good ol’ ATL. The brisket is unreal. Top 3 I’ve had! The sides are delicious and pretty large for the price. The star is the brisket though. If the sauce were top notch I’d easily give RB5 stars but that said RB is easily a 4 star nevertheless. I have to admit that I have a pretty big thing for ribs and brisket and some-days I wake up just obsessing over delish brisket. The owner is real cool and mentioned he liked the feedback he receives on Unilocal except for one review that he said was way to hipster for his liking talking about the physics of BBQ. In his words he says get over it! It’s just a cut of meat hopefully tender and smoky that you dip in sauce. I concur. Stay thirsty my friends, stay thirsty!

I had high hopes for Rolling Bones. I had driven by many times and seen the patio packed with people so I thought this place was going to blow my socks off. Turns out I should not have even put them on to leave the house. The one word that comes to mind is… underwhelming. I got the brisket sandwich w/a side of fries. It took forever for them to bring out my sandwich and when it did come out I didn’t get my fires. They gave me a large portion of meat… most was fatty and gristly. It was drenched in sauce. The bread was average. Once we got our fries they were good, hot and seasoned well. We were looking for a different Bar-B-Q place to add to our restaurant rotation… We will have to keep looking.

Love the portion size and the sauces. Their hot sauce was the bomb. The sweet potatoes even come with this maple butter that they told me they put in the smoker too. It was awesome. Definately one of the best BBQ spots in the ATL. Check out my pics to see how much they gave me for $ 11 with two sides! Great pork, not dry at all. They said they smoke it with hickory and pecan wood.

Texas Toast on board? check. Brisket? a little dry in the thick parts but good flavor on the ends albeit a little salty. Ribs were tender and had good meat. the hot bbq sauce was better than you get at most places in town but not the best yet. still looking for a place in town that offers sausage as a meat choice.

Mmm… BBQ. Below is my list of pros and cons. * Service was pretty quick and nice. * Good size menu… chicken, beef, pork, brisket and ribs. You can get them as a plate, a taco, a slider or as a sandwich. * Only two BBQ sauce choices… mild and hot and they are pretty thin. Note that extra sauce comes with a charge. * Good amount of seating when we were there, but not a ton of tables. On a busier night… you might have to wait for a table. Overall…tasty with good service. With the amount of good BBQ in Atlanta… hard to say how quickly I’ll be back, but if you’re in the neighborhood… check them out.

Shut up. Rolling Bones blows my mind. Granted, I have only been once, but it changed my life. I’m not sure I’ll recommend another BBQ place in town ever again. I think this may be as good as it gets. While the dining room is small and the line could feel cramped on a busy day, the food and service make up for it times a million. Since I couldn’t decide what to get, I talked to the manager for a while, and he convinced me to try the brisket. SO. GLAD. I. DID. It was amazing. So tender, a little fatty and not drowning in sauce — which was recommended to be mixed, and was stupendous of course. And the greens! And all the sides! I feel like I can’t even write a coherent review of this place because I am so enamored of it. If you frequent the Edgewood Corridor(and even if you don’t), Rolling Bones is absolutely worth a stop.

Went here on a lunch with customers after a meeting. It is a very small place, but the food is worth the wait. I had the pulled pork and it was wonderful. Flavorful, juicy, seasoned well and just downright good. It seems to get crowded around the noon hour so arrive before or after the lunch rush times for a chance at some seating but if you are in the area you need to get down here and try this place out!

I’ve lived in the area my entire life and just recently went to Rolling Bones, thinking I’d branch out and try it instead of my usual bi-monthly trip to Daddy Dz or Fox Bros. While it wasn’t exactly disastrous, I certainly won’t be hurrying back. I went at 7 p.m. and was told all they had was pork shoulder and ½ chickens. No ribs, no pulled pork, no brisket(which I wouldn’t order anyway, but still…). I was dejected, but determined to give it a whirl, so I ordered the pork shoulder. I was slightly taken aback to discover it was $ 11 for about half a styrofoam box of it, with one side and one piece of bread. The shoulder was dry and tough with an overabundance of gelatinous fatty bits, and as seems to be a common gripe here, they dumped about a pint of sauce on it. I’ve worked in a BBQ joint before and I know that this is generally done to mask the dryness of meat that has been laying around for a while(it didn’t work). The mustard greens weren’t tender and had a kind of sweet and sour taste, and I crunched down on several pieces of grit. It’s been around a while so there must be a lot of people who enjoy it. The guys there were very friendly, but with Fox Bros and Daddy Dz right around the corner I just can’t justify going back anytime soon based on my experience.

Why has it takin’ me so long to try this Texas style bbq diner? (Done in a Preachers Voice) I had a vision… a BLINDING light came over me and whispered in my ear… can I get an amen. I had a DEEP premonition of mediocrity… I said I had a TROUBLIN” premonition of BBQ as salty as the OHceans… covered in sauce to conceal the true identity of its nature… Now, do not follow in these wrongly contrived footsteps that could miss guide you from seeing the TRUE FAce of Texas BBQ… can I get an umm weee. In this HOUSE that they call BBQ… I am compelled to thank them for the lemonade and bread, SO as to help us fight off HUNGER and quenched our basic thirst. The BRISKET and BEans were the only saving gracies… they were used to feed my four legged friend. OH… help us all if you BElieve this is Texas BBQ… should have stayed in the islands with the birds. Now bow your heads with me in remberance As the sign says out back next to the DRY thru… keep on rollin – they should play that song when you pull into the parking lot. 2.4 stars Out

While it’s one of the most expensive items on the menu — I couldn’t resist ordering the duck sandwich because of its accompaniment — FIGS! The slightly sweet white bread soaked up the carmelized fruit and complimented the duck perfectly. When I come back, I’ll be sure to try the brisket as I’ve heard that’s the true item to get here. But the staff were all friendly, informative and wonderful. Especially accommodating as well as they gave extra sauce, mixed sauces for temperature and offered samples!

I lived many years in Texas and have had great BBQ all over the country. This place doesn’t have great Q. They use WAY too much sauce; even though the sauce is mighty tasty. If you use too much sauce, you kill the taste of the meat so maybe they are trying to hide the quality of their meat. The potato salad was lame and the beans were way too sweet. Peach cobbler was also too sweet. I will stick with Fox Brothers… they happen to be from Texas…

Geez. I can’t believe I forgot to review this place after coming here a few times. It’s most likely caused by the food induced coma I fall into after making a visit here. The one caveat I have with this place is the neighborhood. It ain’t exactly the ghettos, but it’s not too far either. The actual seating area is pretty small inside. They do have an outdoor area that is covered so it adds up to 20 or so seats. Every time I’ve gone the line goes from reasonable to insane in the blink of an eye. Luckily, I’ve always got to place my order before the insanity ensues. Brisket: The brisket here is money. We always order a lot and the slices are nice and thick. It’s slightly smoky with a good smoke ring. Sometimes brisket can be greasy or too dry, but they do it well here. I personally use brisket as a benchmark to judge a BBQ place. That’s just me though… Ribs: They are pretty good IMO even though I’m not a huge fan of ribs in general. Good amount of meat and it’s tender to boot. I have had it a bit salty sometimes, but nothing a sweet tea can’t fix. Brunswick stew: Ok… I’m new to the south and my bro is the one who got me on the stew train. When I first heard about it sounded like a watery chili.(blech) In reality it’s fantastic. It has a great smoky flavor with the meat and I love the acidity that the tomatoes bring to it. I usually check out what’s in the food I eat, but usually all I see when I eat it is a spoon and an empty container. I’ll do a thorough report next time. Shoulder: This was pretty good as well. I usually just get a pulled pork sammich at other places, but somehow my friends trick me into getting pounds of the shoulder. They do give white bread to go along, but I guess I’m so used to the flavor combination of sandwich that it doesn’t do it for me… that’s just me though… I love the food here. The service can be a bit slow at times so don’t plan to rush off anywhere soon. Like I said earlier the neighborhood can be a bit sketchy. There are bums kinda skulking around so i wouldn’t be driving the new drop top benz to get some ‘cue. The probability of getting shanked increases slightly.

Rolling Bones has been on my list of places to try for a long time now. I was able to finally make the trip last night due to a perfect storm of circumstances… I was in the neighborhood and was in the mood for bbq. I’ve heard good things about it before and I regret not being able to try it before the change in ownership so I could compare. Last night we got 1lb Brisket, 1lb Pulled Pork, Rack of ribs, Brunswick stew, Baked Beans, and Sweet Potato. I’ve heard about their«Wendy’s» like fries so I avoided them. Meats were smoky, tender, and most important… delicious! The stew was very hearty although a bit too sour. Baked beans were awesome, not sure what they added(maybe chopped celery or relish?) but it gave it a good contrast in texture. The only thing we didn’t like was the sweet potato. It wasn’t bad or anything, just wasn’t on par with the rest of the food which was really good. I did see the duck, fish, and organic stuff on the menu but I’ll save that for my next visit. For now, I’ll rank it #1 for brisket, #2 for ribs, and #1 for pulled pork.

I’ve been here about 4 – 5 times, and while the ribs aren’t the very best I’ve had in Atlanta, there’s something to be said for the consistency of the food here. My visits have been spread over 4 years, and every time I’ve come, the food tastes the same– the ribs are smoked and have plenty of flavor rubbed into them, the sauces are overboard in regards to tanginess, their beef brisket is tender if not underflavored, and their chicken is done perfectly(with crispy skin??? and it’s not even fried!!!) The sides are just average– nothing really blows you away here, but if you’re on your way up the 75⁄85 and want to pit stop at a nearby BBQ, get off on the Edgewood exit, and Rolling Bones is not too far off.

Went here for a quick dinner before the baseball game. We had a little trouble finding it, and when we called for directions, we were misdirected… but at least we found it. We were there early, so there was no one else there. We split the two meats plate with brisket, pork, greens, and fries. The brisket was delicious, but the rest was lacking. The hot sauce was barely hot, but had a sweet spicy flavor. It did make my nose run, but it didn’t burn my tongue, so I guess it was just spicy enough. The pork was a little too fatty and just missing something. The greens were just cooked — they tasted as if they had no seasoning. The fries were good — crisp on the outside, soft on the inside — but I don’t go to barbecue places for good fries. The cashier was friendly. The manager asked a guy who was asking us for money on the patio to leave, so bonus points for taking extra care of your customers. I would definitely go back, but I think I would get just the brisket.

With BBQ, Georgians love their pork. I can’t say I blame them for, from snout to tail, the pig is a wonderfully edible animal. Pork shoulder, bellies and butts, it’s all good. In fact, there are few butts, short of J. Lo’s, that make me salivate more. But when it comes to ‘que, nothing beats a good brisket. Unfortunately good brisket was traditionally hard to find in Atlanta. I used to make that harrowing drive up Ponce up to Greg’s back when they were the only intown purveyors of beefy goodness(the Eagle notwithstanding.) Then Greg’s closed and I was in a quandary. «Where’s the beef?» I asked. Fortunately, and right on… que, Rolling Bones opened up their little shack off of Edgewood. OK, it’s not so much a «little shack.» The building is a shiny gas station conversion, Norman Rockwell meets I.M. Pei, and is not the run down shanty I normally associate with good BBQ. Nevertheless, these boys from the Virgin Islands deliver. Wait, did you say VIRGINISLANDS? Yep. In one of those weird multi-global twists of fate, the pitmaster behind Rolling Bones found his way to Atlanta from Texas by way of the Caribbean. I tell you this to explain the presence of pineapple juice in the sauce. The sweetness is surprising to most. I’ll admit, I find it off-putting and that’s why I never order the mild sauce where it’s most pronounced. However, in the hot sauce, it adds a nice acid zing that’s a good counterpoint. Added to several slices of briskets(cut on the counter in front of you, Subway-style) and it’s simply awesome. Finally, I’d be remiss if I failed to mention that Edgewood Ave. is undergoing a new Renaissance. In the midst of all the newness, don’t forget that Rolling Bones helped to get the ball, uh, rolling. So for that and their brisket, 4 stars.

Some of the very best things come in small packages — like Rolling Bones BBQ. The shop is very small(a converted fill-in station), but what they lack in size they more than make up for in flavor. I’m a BBQ snob being from the South and so it takes a lot to get my attention. Their ribs are excellent and I love some Texas Toast! The BBQ sauce is not too sweet and has the right level of spice for me. Make sure you get there when it isn’t too busy, otherwise you won’t find a place to rest your old bones to munch down on your big plate of ‘cue.
