Hmm this place is different, it’s not your standard dining experience which can be good for some and not so good for others. The food and ambiance is also very different! I visited on a Saturday evening and it wasn’t crowded. Outside is so colorful, from the walls of the building to the beautiful plants/flowers surrounding, brightly colored ornaments, strangely designed decorative furniture just outside the front door and best of all the birds. I spent at least 10 minutes trying to engage one of the parrots in meaningful conversation but I only got stares and a few squawks lol. Inside the décor is equally funky. The food– I do enjoy a good salad but I won’t describe myself as a religiously healthy eater, as the notion is most healthy foods aren’t tasty. Because of this I spent quite sometime canvassing the menu, until my husband suggested the Cajun Sautee and I obliged. Glad I did, my meal was appetizing(I cleaned my plate). My husband had the Chicken Curry Basil Wrap and a Donkey Kong smoothie. I enjoyed his wrap, there was a distinctive savory taste to it. A friend of ours tried the Tulsi ginger organic tea which she kept going about, after one sip I understood why, it was refreshing. When/if I visit again I would try one of their fresh real juices and a Mango pie or I might just be bold enough to try their gluten free options… might lol Parking is available in the Macquarium parking lot and can be validated, we still had to pay $ 4 though from a total of $ 10. I noticed another lot to the left, not sure what the cost is though. Menu 4⁄5 Service 4⁄5 Taste 3⁄5 Location 4⁄5

Would definitely go out of my way to come here again. Absolutely delicious! Got the quesadilla and the portobello burger with home fries. All fantastic! Steer away from the mashed potatoes, there are better options.

This was my first time here. It was recommended to me by many friends. I must say I am not disappointed with the menu, there is so much to offer. It’s so refreshing to see a menu that works with vegetarian and carnivores so we can dine together happily! I loved it so much and I will definitely be back the next time in Atlanta which maybe next weekend. Honestly, I wish I would’ve known sooner about this place. I am still in complete shock that this place is open 24 hours.

I ended up at R. Thomas by chance because my Amtrak had its usual 3 hour delay and I was looking for a place nearby. I couldn’t have found a better place. Both the outside appearance and the interior are unique and after — at last! — getting a decent iced latte(available with soy or almond milk on request) I picked one of their vegetarian options for takeaway to have it on the train. And what I unwrapped on the train a few hours later was one of the best meals I have had in the US so far. Freshly prepared, obviously made with love and — oh so good!!! Whenever you get to Atlanta do make sure you check in to this place. You will love it!

I ALLLLWAYS hear about R. Thomas and finally got to visit and well, I was not impressed! Walking in you immediately notice the display of birds in cages, while most people found this cute and entertaining I actually felt really bad for these birds, they seemed to have 0 energy and looked miserable out of their natural habitat, mind you it was almost 100 degrees outside here in Atlanta this day. The food was ehhh. I had my friend’s French toast which lacked flavor in my opinion and I don’t eat bananas so I wish I would’ve known they’re used as a garnish for the toast. I ordered the mini fajitas which were especially frustrating to eat being that they had soaked in some extremely runny kind of sauce and made my tortillas soggy which made them break as I tried to fold them for eating. They ONLY received two stars from me because our customer service was great, I enjoyed the tea, and that AWESOME tea dispenser they have, I’m about to look on Google for one now.

The best fire hazard in town. Loaded with funk, exotic birds, 24⁄7 breakfast and both healthy and not so healthy dishes. I usually start with a Lavender Yerba Mate and then go with one of their breakfast items or the quesadilla. The food is always fresh and made with love(aka not sketchy sh*t) so the prices are a little more justifiable. Peak times are Saturday and Sunday morning around noon but the wait always goes pretty fast. This place is great for out of town guests. Can’t go wrong here. Please never go away R. Thomas!

Going with 4 stars because although my grilled chicken was great, the mashed potatoes and zucchini tasted weird. Can’t pinpoint what it was. It was just weird, my husband agreed. Also 4 stars because the server saw my chicken gnawed to the bone and the veggies untouched and didn’t comment. How about, «Oh, you didn’t enjoy your sides? What don’t I give you my fave side in a to go box and you can try something else?» My husband loved his vegi quesadilla. I did love the birds outside and the décor is Caribbean eclectic.

Apologies for the green-tinted photos; the tarp that lines the restaurant is green so that’s the reason for the funky natural filter. This isn’t my first time at R. Thomas, but my first time reviewing on Unilocal. Originally I was intimidated by the place. I’m not really a «healthy eater» and the majority of my friends who frequent this place are health nuts or vegetarians. I was surprised to find out that there are many other options that fit my taste. The vibe of this place is super cool! All kinds of birds, island-y stuff, hippie stuff. A little hut. It’s really really cute. Reminds me of somewhere that should be on the beach except smackdab inbetween Midtown and Buckhead. It recently went through renovations too which is nice. The waitstaff is super friendly. I always have the sweetest servers. I can imagine when it gets busy in there it’s a bit more hectic due to the small space, but overall it is worth the experience. *Also brought two friends who have been in the U.S. from France for about a year, and one of them said R. Thomas is the best food she has had since she has been here!

I stopped into this establishment around 10:30am on a Sunday morning. There was no wait and the service was pleasant and prompt. I noted that I love the bright colors and the fact that the décor is all over the place, it just makes you feel happy. The best part is that the food is fresh and made my taste buds happy! It is clear that fresh ingredients are used and that the food is made fresh upon ordering. I loved the guac and the chia latte was one of the best I have had in Atlanta. Additionally, this place is open 24 hours 7 days per week– what is not to love about that. So, regardless of the hour, do yourself a favor and drop by for some good eats– you will thank me later!

Love all the birds outside! If you put your finger up to the cage bars, they walk closer to you because they want you to pet them. I tried the«eight dollar shake» and wow! So many flavors it was delicious — and huge. The chicken wings here are great because they taste grilled. However be aware, the chicken wings here are tiny because they aren’t injected with growth hormones. I ordered the chicken sandwich which was pretty decent but I don’t like that the cheddar cheese is shredded and not sliced. Do NOT order the sunflower patê, it tasted like glorified peanut butter. The mango pie was super creamy and satisfying.

The waiter was very nice and the atmosphere was different. The food in wasn’t too happy about. My sweet potatoes had a hair in it but I don’t like to make a fuss about things so I just didn’t eat them otherwise it was a nice restaurant.

Food was okay. It was the only place open super late nearby. Giving this place a three stars because the décor, and atmosphere is weird in a fun way. Good 24 hour food place! I had the breakfast special and the wings. I thought the food was rather bland and not as flavorful. Probably will be back here again after another long night out.

This was my first restaurant experience in Atlanta, and it really set the stage for what to expect over the next couple of days. To be honest, I was a bit put off at first by how jarring everything was to me: the restaurant is located on a busy street but it was a little disorienting trying to find the entrance and then wondering where the hell I was supposed to go once I did enter the building; the quirky, messy, hodgepodge of outdoor decorations that assaulted my senses made me feel like I was walking into a hoarder’s residence, and the wacky décor inside, the rickety lawn furniture, and the tacky table cloths put me on the defensive, making me feel like this experience was either going to be great, or awful. Thankfully, the experience was great. The restaurant is 24/7, so the menu is INCREDIBLY varied, and the entire menu is available at all times, giving you tons of potential options. I also love how they cater to vegetarians and vegans along with omnivores, making this place ideal for groups with varied(or restrictive) eating habits. Unfortunately I only got to try the breakfast here, but I would absolutely be open to trying the lunch and dinner options as well. On my one and only visit I got coffee and the French Toast meal, which comes with your choice of bacon – which I chose – ham, or veggie ‘sausage’, and potatoes; every element of my meal was delicious. The french toast was made with good, thick-cut bread and was served with slices of bananas, a generous side of GOOD butter, and REAL maple syrup; the bacon wasn’t paper thin and was very tasty, and the potatoes were awesome – they aren’t shredded or cubed but occupy some beautiful middle ground, and are flavored nicely with grilled onions and salt; I ate everything. The coffee was also very good, and often coffee served at diner-type places is weak and watery while still managing to somehow be bitter/acrid; here, the coffee was neither strong nor weak, full flavored but not bitter. My meal was somewhere around $ 17 plus tip, which SOUNDS like a lot for a french toast meal and a coffee, but when everything served is organic it seems much more reasonable to me(plus did I mention it came with REAL maple syrup??). And despite my initial reaction to this place, I was soon quite comfortable and relaxed in this wacky space – which I now consider to be a plus rather than a minus. As far as service goes, it was the least impressive thing about my experience here; our server was not friendly, but she was professional and attentive enough(though she did mess up part of my friend’s order, which sometimes happens when your server doesn’t write anything down), so though there were no complaints about service, there certainly weren’t any compliments either. All in all, I would certainly recommend this place for breakfast and would love to have the opportunity to try the lunch or dinner if/when I return to Atlanta. Should you choose to give this place a shot, I would only say keep an open mind! Don’t judge this book by it’s crazy cover(which you might come to appreciate later anyway)!

This place is weird as hell. It was a late cold winter night, I walked up to restaurant from the parking lot and saw 4 or 5 caged birds that appeared to be dead(they were actually sleeping). For a second I thought they were serving those birds on the menu. Freaked me out a little but I’m OK now. So when I was sat down to read the menu, my confusion continued. I didn’t know if it was a tropical resort or a diner or a taco stand. So I played it safe and got the sunrise surprise(ha ha). It was tasty but not the smartest choice for late night. I also got one of the fresh green juices with beet root, apples and carrots. Again, tasty but not a wise late night choice. You park in the back but it’s on the worst configured piece of land in Buckhead. The hill is steep and you park your car parallel to the slope. Depending on which side you park, it makes one door hard to open and the other just flies open. Ladies in heels should take heed and tread carefully up the hill. I would have to go during peak hours to give a more thorough review but as a late night option, I prefer other diners. But 3-stars is par for me with most diners in Atlanta.

Food is always good and consistent here. My recommendation is chips and salsa and wings. Everything tasted fresh. Talk to the parrots and skip the valet and park your own car.

I was out with my family on a Saturday afternoon and decided to come here for a late lunch, early dinner. My boys loved the exotic birds in the cages at the entrance of the restaurant. I have to admit, if the kids weren’t with me, I don’t think I would have come… but there aren’t many casual restaurants in the area, and the birds were fun to see for the kids. When I walked in, I was really put off by the décor, very«margaritaville» eclectic décor meets the 70s plastic table covers and bright«decorations» hanging from the ceiling. My husband assured me that this place was a very popular lunch spot during the work week, so I thought that people must come for the food! The menu had a good selection to choose from: sandwiches, pastas, salads, and different theme bowls(Thai, Southwestern, etc). The kid menu, on the other hand was very limited(which is understandable, it doesn’t cater to kids). We ordered the cheese burger and the chicken sandwich, which the kids loved. They come with a side of fried potatoes(don’t make the mistake we made, they are not French fries). They looked like someone took a potato, smashed it with a hammer and fried it with some onions. They don’t taste bad at all, they are just strange looking. We also ordered the southwestern bowl which was composed of a lot of roasted potatoes with a few slices of plain chicken breast, smothered in a red«southwestern» sauce(mainly salt and paprika maybe) with a few black beans. It was not good at all. And finally we ordered the Thai bowl. It was quinoa with some veggies, and the same chicken breast used in the southwestern bowl, but in keeping with the Thai theme, the sauce was made with peanut butter. I’ve had better. They are known for their fruit juices, especially the coconut drink that comes out in a whole coconut(I saw people drink it and then eat it afterwards). We didn’t order any juice. If I do come back, and that’s a big if(the only way I’d come back is if the kids ask to see those exotic birds again), I’d stick with ordering the sandwiches and the cheeseburger, and I would try the juices.

I love R Thomas!!! First, they are open 24/7, and I love late night food adventures especially at a very chill, down to earth spot with really, great, and healthier foods. I eat a pescatarian diet, and this place offers superfoods that are tasty among other things. I’ve had the Thai Express that comes with quinoa and ordered it with tempeh and it’s very filling and you don’t even feel bad after eating it! The fish tacos are perfect for me. It’s just the right blend of savory and sweet topped with veggies that are so yummy. Fish isn’t fried which gives it so much more flavor! Sour cream and salsa on side as well. French toast, what more can I say? Even after being satisfied and full, my boyfriend and I still got a half order of it and it was like our mini dessert. Food was just great! Also, last but not least, our server David was amazing! We dine out a lot and when we get great service, it makes our day and he definitely made our night with how on point his service was and how genuinely nice he was! Thanks David!

A hipster vibe with veggie options, but bland and overpriced! Let’s quickly start with the atmosphere and décor. Everyone has their tastes and it’s neat to see a place like this down south, but it seemed oddly random. My friend and I tried to figure out what was«painted» on the walls. Abstract art maybe, or perhaps just incoherent doodlings? The interior has a very green tint to it too. Anyway, I looked at the menu and two things stood out to me. Pricey! Very high prices for relatively simple vegetable-based dishes at a diner. Entrees average at about $ 15. Also, the menu was not clear at all on what was vegan or not. Is it much to ask for labels or even just a little«V» next to the vegan options? I settled on the Southern Vegetarian after confirming with our waitress that it was vegan. It was decent, but was lacking flavor and the texture was very mushy. The collard greens were super soft, but I can get by that. I was hoping for more of a southern kick with the dish with spice and pizzazz. My friend had the Tofu Basil Lettuce Wraps. We were confused, as it wasn’t a wrap and it seemed way too messy to try to wrap the lettuce leaves around the filling. It was okay, but nothing to rave about. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I will say that the service was top notch. The food was okay, but the prices were definitely way too high for the quality. We skipped on dessert due to the cost. What disappointed me the most was the display of caged birds outside. That was very peculiar. I felt uneasy about that and who knows how well they are taken care of. It didn’t seem to fit in whatsoever with the overall atmosphere. One last note is that parking is very sketchy! Parking is not marked, so we went into a side lot and got charged $ 8 for parking! There is a free lot on the other side of the restaurant, but we had no way of knowing. No bueno! I’ll be generous and give them a three-star rating, but I doubt I would come back unless a friend really wanted to go.

Now this is a funky little gem we have been meaning to try forever. Me and Kelly set out to have a late brunch today and we picked the right spot. This is a nice change of pace for South Buckhead. R. Thomas is eclectic. There is no other word to describe it. The building is really just a kitchen and the dining area is a funky tent decorated like something out of Mardi Gras. With tons of vegetarian options, Kelly wanted something healthy, so we sat down with excitement. Kelly had the Peachtree Sunrise which was 3 eggs anyway you want them with a veggie side. I had the special which was eggs, bacon and french toast. Both our meals were excellent. This place was packed so expect a small wait, but the food and atmosphere are worth it. There are a ton of things on the menu I look forward to trying out. That’s my word and I’m sticking to it.
