Not many To Go spots receive 5 stars from anyone. Nick’s To Go does and it deserves it. This place is a dive and Nick will tell you that. I know because I watched him tell the guy in front of us the same as he held up the line asking too many questions. This place is what it is and it’s worth visiting for the sake of seeing and listening to Nick alone. The Gyros here are on the top list. I love this place and so will you.

Love this place! No one has been able to compare to the gyro that I get back at home. But Nick’s comes pretty darn close. Closer than anyone. I rolled up to this hole-in-the-wall joint in the afternoon and there was there was no one in line. Awesome. I ordered the lamb gyro and fries to go. Well, to go is your only option really. The gyro was great and the fries were still piping hot when I got home. The tzatziki sauce was the best ever. Blown away. So lucky that this is not far from my house! There will be several return visits.

I’m a local and I walk by Nicks every single day on my way to school. The smell from the kitchen is mesmerizing. Make sure to give their Greek lasagna a try, it won’t disappoint. They serve it on Thursdays. Best lasagna I’ve ever had. Their souvlaki is also very good, as well as their lamb gyros. Love love love those folks.

Well, I HAD to go back to Nicks today… my friend left his debit card and I have to say, my next taste treat was just as good as my first. I went with the reviews that said to get what was on the board this time and got the Greek Lasagna. It was fantastic, creamy, hot with greek salad, almost more than I could eat. I also got the Hummus to eat later and it is hands down the BEST I have ever had! Had another co-worker co today to get the lamb gyro, she loved it as much as I did.

Impressed by the great reviews on this profile, I went to check their food today with my family. How do I start? The gyro, that seems to be the big hit with people leaving reviews, was underwhelming, to say the least. The lamb was so plain I had to run to get salt and garlic powder to make it taste better. The fries that come with it… Kind of tasted like the frozen type. If I’m in the area, I might come back and try something else like the spinach pie or the grilled chicken. Won’t get out of my way for their food, though.

I had already ordered over the phone and wish now that I had torn up my receipt and walked out. Nick is not nice and it’s not funny or charming to tell people to ‘fucking’ wait outside or to yell at someone who just want to PAY you. We won’t be coming back.

Picked up gyros and they were a big hit with everyone in the group! The chicken and the lamb ones are good and very filling! We’ve also tried the lasagna. It’s decent but I think the gyros are better. This is a small stand that doesn’t look like much. The parking lot is run down and I swear that my tires are going to spring a leak from driving on this lot. But the food is good. Note that they are closed on Sundays!

Can’t actually review the food here — presumably it’s good based on what friends have said. Ordered a plain-old lamb gyro and when I asked if I could pay with card, Nick started fuming and cursing me for not seeing his $ 10-min sign. Sorry, I’m not gonna patronize a place that treats me like this. I require very little when it comes to service. Smile is totally optional. But open hostility to your customers is not cool.

Good authentic Greek food in a bare bones place in a marginal area of town. That said if you dont need all the fluff and dont need to be waited on, you should be happy here. Unless you have heard of it, or read about it online its probably not a place you would just ever stumble in. You dont even have a door facing either of the two street it sits on.(Its on the corner of MLK and Bell St. There is a broken up parking area in back. I almost walked in the back door. When you go in the proper door there is just one small bench and a menu on the wall with an order window to the left. A black marker has been used to write over the prices of 5 items and raise them $ 1– $ 1.50. There is a sign credit card minimum $ 10, and a logo of AMEX and Discover with a big X over them. The owner really doesnt want credit cards no matter what the size of the order. My order was over $ 10 but he wanted cash. He didnt say outright no to the card, but asked for cash since he knew I had it. Appears to be husband, wife and daughter working. I ordered the gyro combo. Also a side spanakopita, but they didnt have that. He explained they have no heat and no a/c inside. When its cold in the morning the phyllo dough doesnt work. The butter needs to be soft. So… maybe when its warmer there will be some. The daily special was Greek Spaghetti but since this was my first time I wanted to try the gyro. All orders are to go, but there are 2 metal tables and 2 wood tables outside. There is also a board along a wall you could stand at. The area is not covered if its rainy though and your there near traffic. The gyro was very good. Lettuce very fresh, an the bread better than I have had in years. I didnt ask as Id have to go back in to ask but it appears that the bread might be made right there. It was fresh, soft and wonderful with no hint of it being made in a big factory. If your in the area and like Greek food in a modest locale, this is the place!

Truly good food. Large portions! I had enough lunch for 2 days! The service was great. The Gyro platter made me happy. Big, fat fries! The yogurt dipping sauce is amazing in flavor and garlicky! Be prepared! There are 2 picnic tables out in the parking lot, aside from that, it is totally TOGO

This place is SOGOOD. Everyone says try the Gyros(I found them to be OK) — what I really love is the burgers — the nicks double ISTODIEFOR and its massive the single is really good too. I love hole in the wall feel too

It has been almost a year since i last eaten at Nick’s so of course when i recently ate there i had two concerns… was the cucumber sauce still the best in the game and was it still worth the drive? I am happy to report yes on both accounts! I was not disappointed at all. The lamb gyro was delicious and my fries were fried crispy just the way i like it. Soon they will have to remove that sign that reads«Best eats under 10.00»

Ok ok. I found this place on one of the best Web sites ever created. Yes, yes, that would be Unilocal(taking a bow now). Since I live less than a mile away, I wanted to check it out some time ago, but they were closed for a few weeks I believe. Tonight was the night I decided to call them again. Since I wanted to check out more than just a gyro because I am this of a piggy, I ordered the Nick’s ¼ Burger, daily special– Meat Lasagna, and of course the Lamb Gyro with fries and Diet Coke. The lady said 10 minutes. Awesome. I wasn’t sure where it is exactly, but it’s easy to find. It’s basically the corner of Hill St SE and Martin Luther King Jr Dr SE. The parking is pretty big, so didn’t have any problems with finding a spot. You walk in and it’s a small area where you can order and wait. There were a few people waiting for their food looking just excited to eat as myself. Ha. My food was ready. I paid $ 26. The Lamb Gyro with fries and a fountain drink was $ 10, the burger was $ 4.50(50 cents for cheese, cheaaaaaaap), and the lasagna was $ 10(apparently it comes with a salad). Ok, so about the food. Lamb Gyro — much larger than expected. They are definitely not cheap because they put looots of meat in it! You better have a lot of napkins and a fork while eating it because it will get messy. It was very very good. Then the burger. Oh yes. It’s a good burger! Seriously for $ 4.50 I would not go to McDonald’s ever again if they were open 24⁄7! Then the lasagna. It comes with a bun. I liked it a lot. One thing I didn’t like about it– it was too oily. I had to use a napkin to get the oil out of the box. But it was still great and I will order it again. I haven’t touched the salad, but it looks normal. Overall, I recommend this place. The food is delicious. I wish they were open longer. The take out menu says that they are open Mon-Fri from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sat 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and they are closed on Sundays. I would be so happy if they were open 24⁄7. Ahhh. Thank you, guys! I will see you soon.

Is it a coincidence that so many Greek Gyro restaurants are either named Nick’s or have an owner or someone on staff named Nick? I can’t be to only one who’s noticed this, right? I’ve began to wonder if the name Nick is supposed to be some sort of restaurant title, like chef. —– Nick’s Food To Go is still one of the premier places in Atlanta for a great gyros, but no longer my favorite. I hadn’t been to Nick’s in a while and happened to be in the area visiting Oakland Cemetery. Part of the fun of coming to Nick’s is whether or not Nick himself is in a mood. He’s one of those feisty /fiery personalities that can either be super cool or going completely off on somebody! Today was one if his more feisty moods. I greeted him and told him I was happy to see him open, because I had read reports somewhere that he was closed. Why oh why did I say that!!! That set him off on a 5 minute rant cussing and fussing about his haters. Between his heavy accent and the middle finger he kept throwing up to all the people who try to bring him down, I just smiled and nodded in agreement so as to stay out of the line of fire. «You know what I am saying» he says when he was calm. «Yes sir I do» I said, trying not to get him any more rev’d up than I already had! Apparently he had taken a vacation for a couple of weeks, but people began reporting that he was out of business. What I love about Nick’s is it feels just like the hole in the wall gyro shop I frequented daily in high school back in Chicago, which was also called Nick’s! I’ve been coming here off and on for almost 2 decades and this was the first time I felt like I didn’t get the usual amount of meat nor did it taste as awesome as it usually does. The french fries on the other hand were on point. —– FINALTHOUGHTS My culinary journey since discovering Unilocal a few years back has taken me all over the city, especially in the four years since I’ve written my previous review. While Nick’s would still rank in my top five gyros, I must say this will probably be my last visit. It was great to see Nick again and I still highly recommend this place. It’s an Atlanta institution with a reliable track record, but it’s a bit of a drive for a northern suburb dweller like me and I’ve found a few locations that do an equally great job at making gyros(possibly one of my favorite sandwiches in all the world). However, if Halal Guys ever comes to Atlanta from NYC then it’s over. Wherever they are in the city I will be, I don’t care how far I gotta drive!

I’ll be honest. I didn’t get anything Greek on my first trip to this place. Curse the way my parents raised me(going to blame it on that) because I have a very weak palate thus far in my life. I don’t eat too many«adventurous» foods. However, I think this may also be because I haven’t ventured out to try any, though I am willing. When I try something Greek, I will be sure to post an updated review. That aside, what I DID order on my first trip to Nick’s was spectacular. I live literally just down the street from this aesthetically-pleasing, friend-to-the-artist hole-in-the-wall. How’s that for hyphens? I walked here on my way back into downtown, not really knowing what to expect. I had driven past it all the time but had never decided to make the trip until yesterday. I ordered the Nick’s ¼ Burger. I took off a few things: lettuce, tomato, and onion, and added both cheese and bacon. I like it plain and simple. Also unhealthy. Don’t judge(too much). I made it a combo as well. Now, I don’t really know quite how to introduce my excitement for this burger + meal. I don’t think I can say it any other way. One of the BEST burgers I have ever had in my LIFE. Not just in the city of Atlanta, though it is high atop that list as well. Additionally, the fries were the absolute bomb. Thick and flavorful, just as one would hope they would be. Everything came to me in a greasy white paper bag. Love it. Seriously! That’s how you know it’s authentic. The physical appeal of the place? You all know I loved it. As a creative, I am all too charmed by the small, art-covered slab of local flavor right on my own block. Inside is simply a window where you place your order. I didn’t get to speak with Nick himself(heard he can be a crab), but who I did speak with(didn’t catch her name) was very kind. I will definitely be back to Nick’s in the future! And perhaps I’ll bring my roommate who does happily eat Greek foods without a helping hand.

Just try it. Best kept gem in Atlanta for gyros. Unilocal wants me to keep writing but some places are best for their simplicity. You’d be surprised how busy they get, I always recommended calling in.

This was my very first time here and the gyro was good. The portion was good and the sauce was terrific. I was THE very last customer and even so, food did not taste«old»…the meat was a tad salty though. The food was a 3 or 4, but what happened next knocked them down a little. I proceeded to pay with cash and when I handed him the money, owner advised he thought I was going to pay with card(?). He then went on a tirade about people using cards(??? — I paid cash). Besides using language that was rude and not appropriate, I didn’t understand why he was«going in» because again, I PAIDCASH. Perhaps he was tired from a long day, I don’t know. I will try the place again — not so close to closing time– and I will order more, in order to determine if I will become a faithful patron of this business.
