I came to Atlanta for a trip with my wife. This restaurant was the nearest restaurant from our hotel. Last evening we felt very hungry, but the weather was so cold and windy. So we chose this nearest restaurant without any explanation. Inside was little dark and empty. We had shrimp fried rice and mandarin’s combination. Food was a lot and much greater than I expected. And very fast. People was kind and nice. Price was reasonable. They charged 1.5 for a glass of filtered water. But I recommend hot tea. It was great.

When we got there, there literally was no one in there. It was a decent walk from the hotel we were staying at, Hotel Marriot Marquis. I think the main business for this place is during lunch and deliveries. I liked that there was no one in there, but getting service was a little surprising, because the woman wasn’t as helpful as I would imagine. The food was pretty okay. The thing I liked was the calamari. It was given in pretty big chunks, so that was surprising. We ordered the sesame chicken was pretty nice, juicy, and good portions were given. The egg drop soup was a little bland, but we had to McGaiver the appetizer and other dishes to give the spice we wanted. Overall, pretty good.

Sorry, even giving benefit of the doubt that we ate here on New Years Eve around 1pm… this was awful. We were the only 2/people until another couple showed up. Ordered hot tea(bag in a pot) a house salad(few pieces of lettuce and something resembling mayonnaise dressing), a tuna salad(house salad with 10/small, thin strips of «sushi» tuna). We got the sushimi and a crunch roll. Salmon was a color close to a creamsicle; dull orange with a film. The tuna was pink vs. the deep red/purple of a quality sushi tuna. The crunch roll had more of the creamsicle salmon and deep fried shrimp that was probably fried in oil that hasn’t been changed since the Olympics were in town. My wife went to the bathroom downstairs and said it smelled like dead animals. Sorry guys, we won’t be back.

Food not fresh and not tasty at all. Tips are mandatory and even higher than 15% and you have to pay the tax for the tips. We are the only guests when we eat here In a very huge room. So weird. Won’t buy Chinese food from here again.

First thing I’ll note here is that the online menu that one orders from for this place, doesn’t have descriptions of dishes. So, if you don’t know exactly what a dish is to Mandarin House II, you may not get what you assume, or what you expect. I ordered the spring rolls, and the beef lo main. The wrapper for the spring rolls was crispy and delicious. The filling however, had a very mushy, overcooked consistency. The lo main was okay. Not very flavourful, and didn’t contain a lot of the veggie and meat ingredients. It was mostly bland noodles. My beau ordered the wonton soup, egg rolls, and the dish called wonderful pork. He said his soup was bland. His eggrolls were like my springrolls, great on the outside, not so great on the inside. The meal called wonderful pork, is a sweet & spicy pork dish with bamboo shoots, carrots, and onions. It comes with a small serving of white rice on the side. He doesn’t care for sweet in his savory food so, he didn’t care much for that pork dish. He ordered it not knowing exactly what it would be so, I give him props for trying something new. We both ended up with a stomach ache all night. Not sure if the food here is full of MSG, but I would guess that that might be what caused our stomach pains. This place could do so much better, especially for what their food costs. We won’t order from here again, especially considering when there are so many better Chinese places around.

J Jason B pretty much nailed it. This place is dark, doesn’t totally seem like it’s open(the abandoned bar up front still had the TV going, with an episode of Ellen(the sit-com from 20 years ago), of all things, just to deepen the eerie feeling of the place. But then the host shouted a hearty welcome and ushered me into a huge, dim dining room. It was more like a theater than a restaurant. I had some very delicate steamed pot stickers and a delicious house soup(really, this broth was amazing, even on a 90-degree steamy Southern evening). I ordered something called«wonderful pork,» but was given kung-pao chicken instead. I was so hungry I dug in without saying anything, because I love kung-pao chicken. It was delicious. The waitress realized the mistake, but I was already a third finished with my plate, and assured her that I was quite pleased. It was a very satisfying meal. I’ll just have to go back sometime and try that«wonderful pork.»

Ordering online was very easy. The food came in a timely fashion and was delivered to the hotel although they apparently called the wrong number to let us know because we then got a call from the front desk. The pot stickers were perfect – crispy and delicious. The beef in the beef lo mein was tender, and the dish was great. The orange peek chicken was filled with spicy deliciousness. The only low note in the meal was the egg drop soup – very bland. Overall, definitely a place I would recommend!

First off, the food was good. I ordered a restaurant critic’s portion because I was, as usual, dining alone. I don’t hate this place– I know a 3 star rating seems like a death sentence… however I’m struggling to find adjectives that don’t sound so… negative about Mandarin House. Walking in, I realize the place is about 600 times larger than I expected it to be. Cavernous(there’s a nice non-negative adjective I think.) Its a good 20 yards past a deserted waiting area and the skeleton of a bar… I’m guessing there once was a liquor license where now there is none… Up a small flight of stairs where there were signs of life, a friendly(boom good adjective #2) waiter, who offered me my choice of a booth or a table. I always prefer a booth unless there’s a chance it will mean a party of four who comes in after me is going to be relegated to a lame old square table with less comfortable chairs. In this case however, there was NO chance, as every one of the at least 10 booths were empty at 7:45 on a Wednesday night, so were all of the tables too, except for one. One… I considered leaving. I read the menu and then really considered leaving. The darkly painted acoustic drop ceiling is just four feet over my head and it stretches on seemingly forever, dotted by recessed lights of all different sizes and in different patterns, as if built separately in different dynasties throughout the restaurant’s history, with varying amounts of skill and precision in each. The menu is absolutely typical. I feel confident I could recite 95% of it. Egg roll, fried rice, kung pao, beef and broccoli, lo mien, spicy tuna… Cali roll… you get it. There is no mu shu, there is no egg foo young, there are almost no people here. I feel like I am in the ghost of a forgotten basement from a John Carpenter film, a Chang Sing hideout or perhaps a more mundane hell that only Egg Shen and Wang know about… Perhaps Gracie Law is upstairs, hostage, or even Miao Yin! Okay, I’ll stay. I ordered the avocado roll, expecting the nori to be tough and briny. I ordered the tempura veggies, expecting them to be greasy, and I ordered the hot bean curd, expecting it to be flavorless cubes of tofu in a shiny sauce with chili pepper flakes. Oh, and I ordered a coke, expecting it to come in a room temperature can. The whole time I’m ordering I’m thinking, «This is going to be terrible.» But it wasn’t. It was all surprisingly fresh(which is good adjective #4, I believe). With the exception of the coke being in a warm can, and tofu being pretty bland, I was wrong on all accounts. To be fair you can’t really blame them for tofu’s innate blandness, but WTF is up with warm cans of coke at every Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to? The avocado roll, although sadly their most appealing veggie roll, was just delicious(#5)! It made me think damn maybe I should have just ordered 4 of those and nothing else. The pickled ginger and wasabi were high quality(#6), the ginger didn’t have that saccharine sweet funk and the wasabi was pure and mixed well(#7 and 8!), and not too chalky, which I hate. The tempura veggies, to my delight, were light and crispy and fried to perfection(9,10,11.) It lacked variety, basically broccoli, green beans, onion and mushrooms, but like I said, the whole menu lacks variety. I could tell the oil it was fried in was clean, too(#11), as there was no fishy smell and the color of the breading was a beautiful light gold(#12, or possibly 13 if you count«no fishy smell» as a compliment.) The hot bean curd was adequate, and pretty much what I expected it to be, plus a smattering of peas, carrots, and scallion. The portions of the veggies and the bean curd were huge(#13?), large enough for two of me(maybe even three of me) to split. So if you’re looking for cheap and plentiful late night in downtown Atlanta with an eerie Big Trouble in Little China ambience that has over a dozen positive adjectives and no fishy smell, Mandarin House is perfect.

Stayed at a hotel around the corner and gave them a try. I had the Kung Pao Shrimp and it was good. Nice size shrimp, fresh peppers, onions, broccoli. I had asked for it «extra hot» and spicy is was not. Other than that it was good. I was a bit nervous when I went in at almost 6 pm on a weeknight and there was only one person being escorted out in the place.(looked like a homeless guy wanting to use the restroom) Not the best of neighborhoods, I would not wander too far but I was from out of town, that was just my impression. I went back a couple days later and had the shrimp in spicy chili sauce. Again, good size shrimp, fresh and the waiter remembered me from the other day. Again I asked for extra spicy and got nothing. I would recommend the place, did not try the lunch buffet.

Came here on a weeknight for a early dinner. Empty… I should have taken that hint. I automatically always ask for a hot Sake as soon as I sit down. They informed me they do not have alcohol. Ok, its just before 5… I can wait for HH somewhere else… so I go ahead and order. I always order hamachi nigiri as my benchmark test of sushi freshness. It was not fresh. Had a spicy tuna roll. It tasted terrible, rice was too sweet and was a little sour too. I seriously was worried I was gonna get sick so I gobbled all the ginger I could and paid my bill quickly and left for some proper food elsewhere… this place has its days clearly numbered…

This location is located in downtown Atlanta right near the corner of Baker St. And Peachtree. The food was okay. I wouldn’t say this should be a place to make a special trip to go to. But when staying in the hotels near by its a good place to get Chinese food that deliver to your room or you can go pick it up if you like. The place isn’t very modern. But it was clean. The staff was very friendly and they got my order right. If I was staying close by this would be an option again.

The food here is run-of-the-mill Chinese food. AKA perfect for avoiding an awkward dinner with your boss while you’re on business and eating in your hotel room. Yes I’ve had better, cheaper Chinese food, but it got the job done. What got me was the customer service. The only waiter, cashier and whom I assume is the owner as well, was very quick and attentive and he made for great conversation. Furthermore, when I lost my receipt, I called and he texted me a picture of his computer system.(He couldn’t reprint.) That’s what you call customer service, and my job is saved! I’ll be back, next time I stay midtown.

I ordered General Tao’s Chicken with Shrimp Fried Rice and had it delivered to my hotel room. The food was great overall. The chicken wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but it was very good. I would order it again when I’m in town next. The chicken wasn’t the typical weird knobby mystery chicken pieces like normal… this was legit almost shredded chicken that fell apart like chicken meat should. That was a nice surprise and something I’d see other places do. For my food and a can of Coke, it was just under $ 25.00.

Nice sized buffet, there are bigger buffets, but this is a respectable size. This place has a loyal following that has been coming here for years at lunch. The food is always good. Lots of sushi choices are also included in the buffet. During DragonCon you will see a fair number of characters eating here, but it is a big place and handles the crowd. Always clean and the service is prompt.

It was like a Twilight Zone experience. Walked into a foyer with another set of doors. Couldn’t see anyone through doors. Then we walked through the second set and could see that something was in operation but no hint of humans… Then we came to a unused area bar, again no one around… As we passed a giant pillar and a counter, 4 people came into view eating in complete silence, then another person eating behind a pet wall. Then someone came out and looked at us in confusion. I put up two fingers to indicate how many in our party, she pointed us over to a booth on a desolate dining area… At any second, I was waiting for that Chinese dude from Gremlins to pop out and sell me one. Oh, the food was pretty good! Had the Grilled Eel Bowl and some rolls.
