Best Churros I’ve tasted in a while! They make it fresh if you ask(with or without caramel inside!)

Wonderful churreria and a true gem in Atlanta. This places serves everything — papusa, churros, tacos, tortas, fruit drinks, cakes, ice cream, etc. To my knowledge, it is cash only. The only thing that was disappointing was that the woman working took the frozen churros out of the freezer before deep frying them and rolling them in cinnamon sugar. I really hope they are made at this location and then frozen so that they fried and ready to go.

Finally a place that has Champurrado, and it’s really good! This place also has a really nice selection of Mexican sweet breads, empanadas(really wish they had pumpkin), cakes, good churros(plain or filled with cajeta), and a whole board of savory food items you can order from. All of the items are very inexpensive. The reasons for only three stars… it’s difficult to be sure how fresh your food is, when it’s served directly from a portable ice-chest.(We ordered 4 tamales, and the kitchen lady came out to the front, lugged out an ice-chest from somewhere behind the counter, and took our tamales out.) The young lady who was left to run the cash register was very nice, but seemed to need a lot of training on what the items are, and how to do simple addition math.(Add the items up yourself, to be sure you pay what you should.) Lastly, even though there is a sticker directly on the front door, indicating that they accept credit cards, we were told that they do not!

The churros we got were only slightly warm and tasted like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while.

I hate that I have to give this place 3 stars, as I am a huge proponent of frequenting local businesses. On top of that, I love going to places add flair to Atlanta’s dining scene. La Churreria has been on my bookmark list for quite some time, due to its high average rating and my newfound love of well-made churros.(Okay, I am going to give you a back story, if you just want my REVIEW, skip the next 2 paragraphs.) Before going to New York last August, I am not sure I had ever eaten churros. Well, my mistake was branching out at a vendor at Battery Park. Yeah, why did I do that? The churro itself was warm and crispy on the outside, which foreboded a positive experience. Well, the superficial part of the churro deceived me, as the what-should-have-been-creamy interior was actually partially frozen still. I was horrified and beyond disappointed, as were my sisters. Fast forward to my trip to CT this past January and I was strongly led to eating at a mediocre but trendy Mexican joint. The second time around was what saved my opinion of them, as I tried churros with a good friend from middle school. The churros were fried and lightly crispy and served with a chocolate dip. When I took the first bite, the center was perfectly creamy and warm. I thought, «this may be good enough to redeem my idea of what a churro is.» When I came home, I was on the search for good churros(sans frozen cream). My search led me to scan Unilocal reviews for churros and I was convinced that a «churreria» on none other than Buford Hwy would be just what the fried-dough doctor ordered. I got here yesterday, around 7(after calling to confirm that they were open until 9 and wondering why they weren’t next to the Goodwill store that is actually across the street). I got in and the bakery looked like it was ready to close up shop. Not sure if they serve it earlier in the day, but there was an ice cream case and menu. On the front window, there was a list of their offerings and the right-side list had a bunch of Colombian goodies, like my beloved pandebono. Not sure when or where you can get these things, as they were nowhere in sight when I got in. After peering around at the bakery case, with sweet buns, cookies, and other pastries, I shimmied up to the counter to ask about churros. I was told she didn’t have anymore. Mind you, I did read the review that said it is best to get there early, as they run out. Fine. I thought I wouldn’t lose out on the opportunity to try some pastries, so I grabbed 4. Yes, I did get 4, so what? As I was getting ready to pay, 2 others entered the store. They looked out of place, so I immediately thought they were there for what I came for initially. And I was right. They were in awe that 2 hours before closing, the small business – which claims in its name to be a churro-churning enterprise – had no churros. Apparently, they had come far for them and were severely let down. Anyway, I tried the pan de queso in a square and round tart form, which was really good but decadent. I got something else that had a corn custard, also in the square and round tart form. Very good and I passed them to my mom, because she loves all things corn. I didn’t realize that I had gotten 2 specialties in 2 different forms, rather than 4 unique items. I would come back for these things, should the craving arise. I was going to not rate this place, but I feel that I should let others know that you REALLY need to get there earlier. The girl at the counter was really nice and she told me that just a bit before my arrival, she had them. So maybe if you get there even at 6, you may be lucky. But to be on the safe side, stop by post-lunch. Unless you like to start your day off with fried dough covered in sugar, then by all means, go there early in the morning.

Does anyone know if they only have churros only on certain days? Or the tip on when to buy them? I came in on a weekend and I’m guessing they ran out and when I asked about them, I understood them to say not till Tuesday. I’m sure it was more of a language barrier and I just didn’t understand — but it would be heartbreaking if they only have churros on a few days. Aside from the fact that they didn’t have what I came there for, the staff is really sweet and you will find something else to walk out with. A huge selection of baked goods. The empanada is really, REALLY good!

Such a tiny gem! Just take a look at the row of glass cases on the right and you know you’ve come to baked goods heaven! The hot churros are the star here, but make sure to take some empanadas and cream cookies to go.

Found this little place on the way home from Havana Restaurant and was craving some dessert empanadas. And oh do they have them. Pineapple, strawberry, cream cheese, and a few I didn’t even recognize. When I told her I wanted«una empanada de queso,» she told me she had some really fresh ones in the back and would give me one of those instead of the two left in the case. Score! We got a pineapple empanada, a cheese empanada, and some cookie that looked like a pig that tasted kind of like a fig newton for less than $ 3. Everything tasted amazing. Crusty, crunchy, buttery(but not greasy), flaky pastry and ooey, gooey, delicious fillings that definitely did not come from a can. The lady working definitely only spoke Spanish which isn’t a problem for me, but be prepared because there aren’t labels on anything. But there is so much to choose from, I doubt you could go wrong just choosing at random. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly.

Churros! They’re fried, sweet, hot and delicious. Try to get there earlier in the day rather than later.

The churros here are amazing. I took my family there last night and we sat in the car right in front of the bakery eating fresh hot churros. It is like a little slice of chewy, sugary heaven. The woman behind the counter was so nice, too. She offered a small cup of chocolate for dipping. What more could you ask for?

Delightful, gingerly-fried, scrumptious shapes of edible wonderfulness abound in this brilliant idea of a sweet shop. Wow! Filled items left me dreaming for days.

Some people can’t resist ice cream, but I am all about fried dough in any form. My favorite style is the churro. There are plenty of swank local restaurants that serve them, but their versions just can’t hold a candle to those served at little churrerias(places that make and sell churros) around Atlanta. Aside from the little churro stand inside Fiesta Plaza, La Churreria is my favorite. Even though the store sells churros from a heated case for those in a rush, the shopkeep will happily fry up a fresh batch if you ask. You just cannot beat the crispy and custardy sensation of eating a freshly fried churro – especially when they are as tasty as these. You also get a side of cajeta for dipping, but I try to be «good» since I am already splurging. Although the bakery is Mexican, it still makes some of the most delicious arepas I have ever had. They are super moist, slightly sweet, bursting with fresh corn and filled with cheese. Cakes, your standard bread case filled with baked goods, an ice cream counter, an assortment of paletas and a case of full of chilled drinks. Such a great little shop that is worth a visit whether you have a sweet tooth or not.
