I recently had dinner at Katana with a larger group on New Years Eve. They were very accommodating when I called several times to change the reservations. I selected this restaurant for our group because it was close to our house and I thought it would be a fun setting for NYE and a large group(we sat at the hibachi grills). Overall, we had a good experience, however I probably wouldn’t go back on my own. The food was delicious, however it was expensive. As some others have stated, the hibachi menu did not come with any vegetables(had to order those extra) and fried rice was also extra. Additionally, everyone in my group was excited for the cooks to do some fun things at the grill, and they did nothing at all, no «show» at all which everyone in my group commented on after the fact. Additionally, the place was pretty dead which I was very surprised about on NYE. They were cleaning up and closing the place down when we were finishing up which was still only about 10:45 or so. Just surprising for NYE. If I choose to do Hibachi again, I will definitely choose another restaurant that puts on more of a «show» and is not as expensive. If I just wanted regular terriyaki chicken, etc. I would just order it off a regular menu and pay less.

Anytime you sit at the sushi bar, and engage the sushi chef, you get great service. I was treated to good conversation and they introduced me to some new fish I had not tried. I eat sushi 3 – 4 times per month and was able to share with the chef what I like and don’t like, and he suggested some white fish to try. I told him to make something good — and he was spot on! Thanks and I’ll be back for sure!

Dropped by for a quick dinner after coming from the airport and before checking into my hotel nearby. This place was definitely better than expected! Had the chirashi bowl — the fish was pretty good quality, and the rice was well seasoned with furikake and salmon roe. –1 star since our waiter, though very sweet, did a 3-way mixup of our cards at the end.

So… I have been seeking for a great tapanyaki place and was delighted when I found this place. Couple of months ago, this place seemed undiscovered, though it has been opened for a year or two but these days it seems to be doing well, which is great for the business but bad when you go with a large group of people with hard stops. Not sure if they do a full on hibachi show at night, but during lunch, there’s no show. If you want more of an interaction with whomever you go with, I would suggest sitting at regular table. Food wise, they have amazing rolls! My favorites so far are Gaelic and Picante. If you crave fried rice, order the shrimp fried rice. If you want surf & turf, go with steak and shrimp tapanyaki. Other notable plate is the salmon teriyaki. Overall, everything that I’ve tried here has been great!(Note, these have all been from the lunch menu so it may be slightly different for dinner)

Dined at Katana’s last night and I was not disappointed. As I was by myself and wanted to eat teppannyaki which I did in the dining room rather than at a teppanyaki grill table. The food was great. Tried the Pork Belly Yakatori and it was delicious. I ordered the Teppannyaki Sirloin and Shrimp and the sauces(yum yum and meat sauce) were the best I’ve ever had. Also the Miso soup and the ginger dressing on the side salad were the best I’ve ever had in any Japanese restaurant. The staff were very friendly(from the valet to the hostess to the waiter) and bent over backwards to make my evening enjoyable. I will definitely be going back.

The resturant has an Ok décor it’s just a standard sushi hibachi grill I had a tuna and cucumber roll it was Ok and the Wasabi did absolutely nothing. The service is good and not very expensive. Very good bar

I went on a date last night *insert pause for reaction* and Sushi was requested. I knew Katana had been open for a while now and wanted to venture out to try it. I was NOT disappointed. Unlike a lot of Sushi resties in Atlanta, they do not skimp on the portion sizes, especially on the Sushi Rolls. My date isn’t a fan of Hibachi(or Teppanyaki as Katana classifies it), so we didn’t sample that portion of the menu. However, they were booked for the evening, so I’m guessing they are doing something well/right in that department. Not only are the rolls well named(I had the @3345 Roll and my date had the Never Say Never Again Roll) but the sushi was fresh, and well prepared. The presentation was also great. I had the miso soup as an appetizer and it was well flavored. We both had the Hibachi Fried Rice which has salami and sausage in it and is fantastic. The service was also very good, as the hostess and waiters were very attentive. I’ll definitely return to Katana soon!

I was really disappointed tonight. Usually love this place but they make you pay for vegetables now and I mean an onion is what 30 cents??! Also they don’t throw shrimp or eggs or anything. That’s the key to hibachi. #fail

We had really good service here and they have a nice large menu. This is the third restaurant in this spot in 5 years. The hibatchi has nothing on nakato. I would say it’s 10x better there. I don’t know if this place will make it…

We were actually on our way to another nearby sushi restaurant when we saw Katana as we left Lenox Mall. But traffic was horrible so we decided to check out Katana instead. It was early in the evening, around 6:30, and there was only one other couple dining at the time. I was happy because that meant I could get my food quickly(I was starving). It looks like a cool spot. And I’m sure the ambiance is even better at night. I can’t remember the name of our server, but she was really sweet. She took the time to explain the cocktail menu, which was separated by Ying(sweeter options) and Yang(stronger options). I ordered the One Night in Beijing and the Hubs had the Fast & Furious. We both enjoyed our drinks(though the Hubs didn’t like the glass his came in… too«girly»). For dinner, I had the rainbow roll(my go-to in order to determine whether or not I like a sushi spot) and the H.E.R.M.E.S. roll. The Hubs ordered the Never Say Never Again and a philly roll. The sushi was awesome and fresh. Our server mentioned that the fly in fish each day to ensure freshness. The menu didn’t have a ton of sushi options, but the offerings were unique so that totally made up for it. All in all, we were very pleased with our meals and will definitely return.

Perfect location! Usually going to the mall means mall food. But now that I know these guys are here that might mean more shopping trips to Lenox and Phipps. Several items are similar to what’s on the menu at The One, their other restaurant on Dresden Dr which I absolutely love. Had the Bora Bora which was so good I forgot to take a picture. Picante had too much mayo tasting sauce on top. The yellowtail shots were good, but taste better at the one. Great service, cool ambiance. Definitely am planning to check this place out for dinner!

Singularly the best Teppanyaki I’ve ever had in my life! My family and frequent Teppanyaki restaurants and have tried several all over the United States. Each course was individually played w/unique sauces and presentation. The staff was attentive and efficient, even entertaining to my 5 y/o daughter. We’ll be back. Often!

Great sushi bar experience — very customized to my taste preferences and the sushi chef was really informative and fun. He prepared each piece of my six piece chefs sushi platter one at a time and catered to my preference for spicy selections by adding interesting touches like pickled wasabi and Sriracha. I also had an excellent specialty roll that had a very appealing presentation and wonderful blend of flavors and textures. Finally, the sake, wine, beer and cocktails list was very enjoyable with a number of interesting and unusual options. I really enjoyed the Koshihkari Ecjigo Beer(light, crisp rice lager) that I tried. Great drinks, sushi and service and a nice end to a long day of work. Highly recommended and well worth checking out!

Sushi was reasonable if not perfect. Rolls were very americanized but tasty. Tempura was fried in a batter, not really the soft and light thing you’d expect. Service was nice and fast. A bit pricey on the whole. Would go back but not really enthusiastic.

Have only tried their sushi and sashimi, and it was definitely worth coming back for. They are preparing to open an outdoor patio, which will be a nice addition. Service was great on the night we went, but was not overly busy for an early Saturday evening dinner. All 3 specialty rolls we had were great and interesting combinations, and the sashimi was fresh.

I retract my previous review– We came back for a second time around on a Monday night because the food was great the first time. We had 7:30 reservations and arrived promptly– we were told the hibachi wait would be 20 – 30 minutes when the restaurant was practically empty. Instead of waiting, we opted to sit at the dining area where there was no literally zero customers except ourselves. The menu is completely different from the hibachi side and all we wanted was the same steak we had previously, just cooked in the kitchen so we didn’t have to wait 20 minutes. They told us they couldn’t accommodate and insisted us the food was completely different from the dining area to the hibachi area. If that was the case, this should have been separated into two different restaurants. The waitress seemed like she did not want us there so we left without eating. It was a shame our second time around was so terrible, we really enjoyed the food the first time and was hoping to make this our hibachi spot but we will not be returning after this unfortunate incident.

A group of us came here for New Year’s Eve. While waiting for a table, we went to go grab a drink at the bar. The hostess informed us that the bar was reserved, and while we could order from there, we couldn’t sit at one of the 6 empty bar stools. Ok, that was odd. We finally got seated and it took a long time to get the hibachi chef to come out. Our group ordered a mix of chicken, salmon, filet, and veggie options. The food was decent, but definitely not worth the high prices. They didn’t even add any seasoning or butter to the vegetables, which were quite bland. There are plenty of other hibachi spots with better food. They have some interesting drinks, and a huge sake menu. Ambience is definitely on the nice end for a hibachi spot. Valet is required.

We were wanting a new sushi experience in Atlanta. Wow, did Katana Teppanyaki deliver! The food was simply the best sushi we’ve eaten in Atlanta in the last 5 years. The tuna sashimi was incredilby fresh and full melt in your mouth flavor. We stayed with the signature rolls throughout the evening and each one was not only a visual treat but an explosion of flavor. The service was fantastic as William, our server, let us dictate the pace of the evening. The owner even came by to see us. The décor is beautiful as well. We will be bringing our friends here for sushi soon. An awesome experience with truly magnificent food.

I was really looking forward to trying this place out since I love sushi/teppanyaki and this space on Lenox Road has been empty since Truffles Café closed in early 2013. Went here for the first time tonight as a party of five. The interior looked nice and upscale; however, everything else was a less than ideal experience. Please note the following: 1) Parking is Valet only. 2) The teppanyanki menu is overpriced. The lowest price option for the entrees is $ 19 for the chicken. Next is $ 24 for shrimp. 3) They charge $ 3 extra for fried rice. 4) You cannot order teppanyaki in the dining area. You have to sit and have the chef cook in front of you if you want teppanyaki($ 10 sharing fee per person). 5) Waitress told us that the owner requires a $ 10 minimum per person if you’re sitting down for teppanyaki. Apparently it doesn’t matter if other people in your party are ordering $ 40 worth of food… 6) Portion sizes are small(see pictures). 7) Our bills came & they charged $ 26 for the shrimp entrée. The waitress told us that the price on the menu and the price in the computer were different so she had to manually adjust the prices down by $ 2. 8) When we walked in, we were the only ones who wanted teppanyaki. The chef took a while to get started but after he started cooking, they sat three new people next to us at our table. I thought this was strange since at other restaurants of the like they don’t seat you/start until the table is full. The chef cooked all of our food and then cooked the other party’s food. 9) The busboys/waitress constantly asked us «are you done with this?» when our plates were clearly empty. Would not consider going back to this place.
