Georgia Power deservedly gets a lot of flack for their heavy-handed business practices. However, I’m not here to complain about nuke plants or the PSC(well, THIS time.) I’m here to actually praise the big, black Leaning Tower of Power. Why? Well, simply because of the Disco Substation. Now I don’t know why this thing exists. Well, TECHNICALLY, I know why this substation exists, to transform voltage and current from those used in transmission lines to those used in distribution lines. This, however, does not explain the disco lights. Seriously, disco lights. Drive by this thing at night and it looks like an all-night rave. Or maybe an alien ship from Close Encounters landing nearby(in which Richard Dreyfuss played an electrical lineman. Coincidence?) (Time passes and googs are oogled.) OK, after further research, I discovered that the disco lights are part of some art installation used to hide the substation. In my opinion, the use of disco lights kind of DRAWS attention to things, but, hey, I’m no fancy artist. Still, props to both Georgia’s(Power and Tech) for adding disco lights to, well, anything. They should start adding disco lights to the Tech Tower or maybe some of their dorms. It might help those enginerds relax and get their funk on. Because THAT, my foxy ladies, would be groooovy.
