Don Pollo Bar & Grill

I work across the street from Don Pollo and received a flyer on my car that advertised $ 6 lunch specials and 10% off lunch.
A group of us decided to try it out. We pulled in and were the only folks in the lot. We were enthusiastically greeted in the parking lot and provided our choice of tables upon entry. Note that the windows are blacked out so it’s rather dark inside, even when bright and sunny outside.
We sat at a high top table and were provided menus. Being the second day they were open for lunch, the menus were Xerox copies. We were the only ones there.
Most everyone got the taco salad; I picked the green chile cheese enchiladas with a side of guac. I will cut to the chase: the food needs improvement.
The complimentary chips and salsa were not good. The chips seemed thick and stale; the salsa lacked freshness and flavor. The green chile on my enchiladas did not seem thoroughly mixed; it was just okay. The beans and rice lacked flavor. Folks that got the taco salad complained that the meat was too salty. The guac was thoroughly blended; the consistency of baby food. It had a really odd medicinal taste to it and seemed to lack cilantro, tomatoes, and basic seasonings. It was inedible. I left hungry, a first for me in a Mexican restaurant.
Service was super friendly and polite. We were asked for feedback and I shared my thoughts on the guac. I was informed it was the first time they had ever made it so that explains a lot.
Perhaps after the kinks are worked out, this could be a great lunch spot but I would give it some time… The two star rating is the super friendly service; otherwise, it would be one star.

I’ve never had anything but a positive experience at don pollo.
It’s always packed and filled with people who enjoy both food and drink but also relaxed dancing.
I have never felt uncomfortable or out of place here. Down to play songs I request and sometimes if I’m wasted enough I’ll order some Empanadas.
I wouldn’t ever go alone and I would recommend leaving before they close… But definitely worth a check out if you’re with a big group and want to dance like an idiot and enjoy Hispanic music

The place is loud, hot and crowded. It wasn’t too bad; it just isn’t for me. It’s open really late which is good though. Unfortunately, a shot of rum is $ 10 which is fcking ridiculous.

It is bad place they try to steal you and they will charge you for using card and all the price and offer are not real so dont even think to try it it’s just free advice

Not the place to come in at 12am. A lot of smoke. The music is ok for a Saturday night. Definitely not the place for the grown And sexy.

It’s important to me that all of my friends and family get to go to all the places I do. Not trying to revisit the south’s unhappy past and bigotry is bigotry no matter if it’s based on race or sexual preference. Will NEVER go to this place again. EVER.

Run by a bunch of bigots. Go to pollo tropical … Or hell go to KFC. Anybody that sells white meat will have better food to digest than what this joint serves up with their discriminatory marinade.

The pits!!! Never eat here. They are sad and pathetic discriminatory people. They deserve tumbleweeds as customers. A restaurant that does not accept everyone in the year 2013 deserves not to be in business!

Beware of this place! They recently refused service to someone who is transgender. I am not a member of that community, but anyone who cares at all about decency in society should take their money elsewhere. Money talks.

This is too funny/​weird, I hate this place too then despite being a heterosexual male. The quotes from the manager about this brouhaha would indicate a lack of intelligence along with a knuckle dragging temperament.
The City of Brookhaven is trying to close this place’s next door neighbor, The Pink Pony, they should try to close this place instead!

Besides being unsanitary, the place is also run by bigots.

If you are a member of the LGBT community or a friend thereof, steer far clear of this place. Overtly hostile.

Very hateful place of business. I will not patronize the place again.

The staff is very discriminatory towards GLBT people. Don’t eat here.
