Friendly staff that went over and beyond expectations! Btw, the trees lining your entrance are called Golden Rain Trees.

Crest Lawn Memorial Park looks like a mid-sized bump from Marietta Boulevard, but once you float through the gate, rolling hills offering an amazing view of downtown Atlanta and Buckhead emerge. The park spans 145 acres containing weeping evergreen trees that look like they belong in the Northwest along with other vegetation that sits bare in the winter but surely will burst with blossoms in the spring. Historic Civil War markers dot the undulating landscape, along with mausoleums, sculptures and headstones – some still paired with foot-high Christmas trees and holiday garlands. If I made out in cars, I’d park on one of the utmost hills and neck. But I guess I’m a grown-up, so I can eat a meal up there or meditate instead.

It is slightly unusual for a still living person to review a cemetery but that’s how I do things. This is the big old god’s acre up the street from Nuevo Laredo. Granted it is where the majority of my ancestors are taking their dirt naps. Still i think it is one of our fair city’s nicest green spaces. You could spend an entire day exploring this city of the dead. Right up front there is a little pond bordered with old growth trees. And a beautiful old mausoleum. If you take the time to walk around, you can examine up close some amazing grave markers and tombstones. They vary from old brass plates or urns, to giant slabs of polished marble of every imaginable shape and size. My favorite statuary in Atlanta resides here. About half way up the first hill, there is a larger than life stone couple. Arm in arm looking out at a marvelous view of downtown. It is one of my favorite scenic spots in town. Farther in the graves are older and sometimes more ornate. I, personally, am fascinated by how people choose to mark their eternal resting spots. A walk around this place is quiet and very calming. With all the old giant trees, constant vigilance to tending the garden and very few visitors. Crest Lawn remains serene. But if you are looking for the creep factor I’ll give it to you. In the way way back, there is an overgrown unmaintained slave graveyard. If you find yourself back there, don’t go alone if you are easily frightened. All I say about that is, I’ve seen things. «shivers» All in all it is a gorgeous park and a great place to have quiet moment.
