At last year’s Dragon Con 2014 I ate at this location due to how long the lines were at other restaurants within the building. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The burger bread was soggy from all the grease that was wrapped inside the paper. The fries were not completely cooked. I’m guessing someone pulled them up to serve in order to keep up with demand. Needless to say I wasted my money because I didn’t eat it. Fast forward to this yr. I visited Atlanta again for a concert. I wanted to grab a bite to eat so I walked over to the same area because I knew it had a variety. Almost every restaurant was closed. It was 6:40 pm. Once again my only option was go hungry or eat at Checker’s. I ordered a fish sandwich. While I waited I was thankful I hadn’t wanted a milkshake because before I even ordered they had started draining the contents to break the machine down. I received my sandwich and found a place to eat. As soon as I saw it I asked myself if I was hungry enough to eat it. Both pieces of fish were soggy with cooking oil and heavy from the weight of it. Oil that tasted like it should have been changed a week ago. The four edges of each filet was hard. I did eat most of it but again I had not eaten in nearly 48 hrs. I don’t know how this chain gets all these great reviews. When I attend Dragon Con again this yr. I know I will not walk in the direction of this particular restaurant. It has some of the nastiest tasting food I’ve ever eaten. Maybe it’s just been dumb luck that I’ve tried eating there on days that would have otherwise been great tasting food. But I won’t risk spending my money at this establishment again. I recommend staying away from this one. I will say the young lady who took my order was very courteous.

It is a burger chain, but one that isn’t available at my home town so I figured I had to give it a try. The counter staff was friendly and welcoming at lunch time on a slow day. The grilled sourdough for one of the burgers was good in that it was different from a regular bun; not as good as another chain’s offering though. Burger itself was fairly standard fair and did not stand out much. What did bump up my experience were the fries and the shake. The fries were crispy and seasoned. It was like a nice seasoned curly fry with out the curl. It was nice to have the crisp fries with a bit of pepper and bite to them rather the plain old soggy potato sticks. The shake was thick and rich with a good chocolate flavor. Not a deep malt or roasted dark chocolate flavor, but adequate especially for a chain. However, the shake was BIG and sometimes size does matter. Overall I would eat here again; but keep in mind it is a chain burger joint. Perhaps better then some chains, but not a foodies burger by any means.

I wish the waitstaff at high-end restaurants across Atlanta treated me like this Checkers’ general manager Adrean does. When I pop into this Broad Street location for the occasional unhealthy Friday snack, she’s always there to offer me a large fry with charm, a smile and blessings for a happy weekend. NOTE: This Checkers is so sketchy, they keep the napkins and ketchup behind the counter.
