The food was good I tried my cousin Curry Chicken with the squash I got the 3 Pc Baked Chicken on a Bed of Rice with Kale Greens and Mac n Cheese with a Corn Muffin .This place needs to be renovated not taking away from the food but the outside looks bad and so does the inside. With all these celebrities going and coming from here you would think they would atleast try to fix this place up.

One of my all time favorites in the West End, best described as gourmet soul food. All of their chicken and fish entrees are great, love the creamed spinach and they have red velvet cake and lemonade to die for! Everyone I have suggested try them out it very happy they checked it out.

Having tasted what I consider to be some of Atlanta’s premier Soul Food, I had nothing g but good thoughts when considering a drop in to Chantrelle’s. I remembered good food and nice décor from my last visit to the place many years ago. So imagine my outright shock and horror upon entering the front door! The nice décor — GONE — replaced by simple white chairs and tablecloths. The tasty food selections — GONE — replaced by what can only be described as poor quality chicken(BBQ and Rosemary style, both one step from nausea — more on this fiasco in a moment) some Shrimp Creole dish(watery looking), Turkey Sirloin patties in Brown Gravy(actually the most appealing dish to look at) and finally the Cajun Tilapia(my tummy hurts just thinking about it). Along with these«delicacies», a smattering of unseasoned veggies and a teeny cornbread muffin makes the meal complete. The food is NOT seasoned, in fact I don’t believe that anything g is actually cooked on site — you can’t smell any trace of food there. The lukewarm Rosemary Chicken taste like some chicken that’s been tossed in a Rosemary sauce. The lukewarm fish portion was fit for a child’s plate and again, not a touch of Cajun seasoning. The décor was dismal, evidence of Mold in the ceiling in several places, staff is polite, but not overjoyed to serve, and here’s a little something that sent me over the top: there is a tip jar that is by the register, I asked the waitress at our table what that jar is for and she said that the tips in the jar go to the person that collects your money for the food? WHY? They haven’t done anything worthy of a tip, that money should at least be shared with the wait staff who have to wait on patrons and bus the tables as well. Very disappointed to see what has become of a once quality food spot. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. If your rolling through the West End and see Chantrelle’s do yourself a favor — keep rolling. HOWTHEMIGHTYHAVEFALLEN ! Until next time — Peace !

I recently relocated back to Atlanta and could not wait to go to here as it had been one of my favorite soul food places in the city. Unfortunately, my food was barely edible. The Mac and cheese tasted slightly sweet which was strange. The Cajun fish tasted like it had been frozen and not fresh and the cabbage was well seasoned but tasted like it had been reheated. I ate the corn muffin and had to throw the rest away. The counter area needs significant cleaning or replacement. The best thing about my visit was the friendly service. I’m sad that the quality of the food has declined so significantly.

found this nearby Morehouse College. The menu was unique. I had the tilapia and my wife had the rosemary chicken. Food was good and service was ok. Could use some improvements but all in all I would eat there again.

Near downtown, this is an easy spot to run into Atlanta’s «good olé boys» from the gov’t and schools. Mac & cheese, cornbread, greens, beans, peas, cakes, pies, etc. The food is good. The service is good. The ambience is basic old school buffet. The price is great for the generous portions. They have takeout, too. And homemade lemonade.

The food is Not good. I have been on 3 occasions to try and support this place, but the food is not fresh and many of the dishes are not homemade. You can taste the packaging, not to mention they have found a way to make all dishes sweet.

Rosemary chicken was to die for! I had seconds, which says it all. But staff isn’t very welcoming – felt like I was bothering them to get food…

My boss and another coworker treated me here for lunch on the last week of my internship. We chose to go here because it is fairly close to the office and I have been curious to try the food here after hearing so many varying reviews from people. Because of the mixed reviews of this place my expectations were quite low, but BOY was I pleasantly surprised! The food here was DELICIOUS! I tried the curry chicken, dressing, cabbage, and rutabagas. The curry chicken was absolutely the BEST curry chicken I have ever had at ANY restaurant, HANDSDOWN! The portion sizes were generous and the staff was excellent and very accommodating to us while we dined inside their quaint dining room. The food here is soul food with a French twist, so it is definitely not your average soul food spot. This place is definitely unique and holds its own in the Atlanta Soul Food industry. Give this place a try.

If ½ stars were an option I’d give Chanterelle’s a 3.5. A friend of mine is a regular and has been telling me about it for a while. We met up for lunch last week and I was pleasantly surprised. While I was driving there, I was like, «Man, where the heck am I?» I hadn’t been to this part of town, but it reminded me of the west side of Chicago. Parking was available right out front and I headed in. The outside looks pretty rough, but when you go in, it’s a really clean and welcoming place. They have a counter with all kinds of meats and vegetables to choose from. I got the rosemary chicken, garlic potatoes, yellow rice, and creamed corn. Everything was seasoned well, the chicken was pretty moist, and you definitely get a lot for your money. My only knock is that it isn’t the most appetizing looking spread behind the counter, and they used a little too much rosemary on the chicken. It took away from it a touch. I also got a piece of chocolate cake to go. I thought it was just okay(not moist enough), but I took it home and my wife actually liked it. Overall, Chanterelle’s is a winner, in my book, and I’ll definitely be back.

I have been eating at Chanterelle’s for years now that’s how good it is. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. Chanterelle’s is a great place to stop by for a quick lunch or dinner. They always have a great variety of well seasoned vegetables and choices of meats. There cornbread is always yummy and comes with your meal. I recommend you stop by Chanterelle’s if you live nearby or work downtown.

I’m sorry to say this, but I just wasn’t that impressed with this place. It’s OK at best, but I will give them another chance. I went along with a friend who had been before and he seemed to like it, so I figured that I might like it. My biggest problem was, the place didn’t have any macaroni & cheese that day(a must for me in a soul food restaurant). I ate the baked chicken, green beans, and veggie medley(typical squash, zucchini, carrots). The baked chicken was a little too dry for me, but had a good flavor. The green beans were french cut out of the can. An effort was made to season the beans, but they were alright at best. The veggie medley was darn right extra overcooked. You are given a piece of cornbread with your meal(I’ve had better). The waiter really worked hard to keep us happy, he was very attentive-which was definitely a plus. My friend seemed to like his food and while he was eating it, I was thinking to myself, «If you like this, then you will love what I can throw together.» I just think that I could open up my own«competing» soul food restaurant if this is what folks are used to eating. Not trying to knock this place, but i’m just saying that i’ve had more soulful tasting food from my own kitchen. I will go there again and hopefully they will have some macaroni and cheese(which normally wins me over). At that time, I will be able to update my review. But for now, I will just give this place 3 stars.(2 stars for the food, 1 for the waiter).

As I continue my Soul Food Tour, Chanterelle’s was a hopeful farvorite. A co-worker said it trumped most of the other usual suspects amoung Atlanta’s soul food elite. Thanks to some good intel from Unilocal and some intuitive mastery of Atlanta layout and orientation, I was able to make my way there without using a map(when you see the Krispy Kreme on Abernathy, turn down the side stree Evans). It was as I expected, cafeteria style with lots of selections. There was rosemary flounder, beef tips, smothered chicken and sides like cabbage, rice, green beans, black eyed peas, mac n cheese and dressing. I ordered the tips, mac & cheese and creamed corn. Everything was tasty. .The beef tips were in a tomato based sauce that was sweet and slightly tangy – not unlike a Brunswick stew base. They had celery ribs, onion and green peppers mixed in. I should have oredered it over rice, but wasn’t thinking. My creamed corn was in a very dense base, and nicely sweet and spicy. My mac was okay, it was very smooth, but nothing to write home about. My meat &2 came with a corn muffin and was $ 8.50. All in all, it was definitely someplace I’d dip into if I was on that side of town, but not necessarily go out of my way to venture to.

Chanterelle’s describes itself as «soul food with a french cuisine spin» Ok so I lived in Atlanta. nearly 5 mins from this place and i NEVER knew it existed. However I had«heard» that they had some good food. Now if your going to judge it on looks they get a «0» because it looks horrible from the outside… but once you go in… you smell the wonderful aromas of all the food. The food is served cafeteria style… They have tons of choices… just to make ur mouth water i’ll tell you a few… rosemary chicken, barbecue chicken, flounder, and vegetables… they have potatoes, rice pilaf, squash, zucchini, cabbage, but everything is seasoned perfectly and very tasty. Oh and they have this wonderful, fresh, homemade lemonade… u HAVE to get that! Its a bit on the pricey side. I bought the rosemary chicken with potatoes, cornbread and a lemonade for 9.50 whew! Although they have this one cashier… she is just not friendly… i mean she has not smiled once and i’ve been going there for a year. I really wish they would replace her with someone a lil happier! Definitely if your in the area you should give this place a try. They have parking on the street and some reserved parking in the Krispy Kreme parking lot.

Southern Fresh Food with Flair A stone’s throw from the West End Mall, on a side street, across from Hank Aaron’s «Krispy Kreme» this is a well kept secret! My favorite is the Shrimp Creole, fluffy flavorful rice, plump shrimp… seasoned just right. I prefer grilled food, most of the items are smothered in creams, sauces, …but consistently fresh. Don’t forget to try the lemonade, sweet with just the right amount of lemon pulp. . Pros: Great Location! Tasty Food! . Overall user rating: Recommended
