What a beautiful slice of earthly heaven! I think that parks should be an important feature in any large city, providing people with a green, open areas to escape to from the concrete and iron. Though not near the downtown area, this park is still close enough to provide a respite from it – though, thankfully, it was only a few minutes walk from where I was staying in Buckhead. The Northside Beltline Trail runs through it, running alongside Tanyard Creek(which at some points is more like a little river), connecting it to a lovely forested area – boasting tall, old, stately trees – to the south and another, larger area I didn’t get to explore to the north. The ‘entrance’ to Ardmore Park is on Ardmore Road near where Collier and Peachtree intersect, and has a nice, well-maintained playground for children in the open expanse of green that eventually gives way to the rest of the park. I would recommend this park to anyone for whatever reason; it’s great for kids and pets, for adults looking to take a relaxing stroll, or for going on a run. The station providing eco-friendly bags to dispose of your dog’s waste near the entrance is a really nice touch, but the cherry on top was the Little Free Library box near the trail, where you can borrow a book; how awesome is that?! Check out this park if you’re not far and need a break from the city; and if you have a good book you want to share with the world, I can’t imagine a more beautiful way than by sticking it in a box in the middle of a park.

I don’t understand how urban kids entertain themselves. Growing up, the woods were my oyster. I scampered through rows of watermelon and tomatoes in my Birthday suit. While playing Zorro, a wisteria vine served as my whip. I communed with the cows. Picking beggar lice off my clothing was a weekend ritual. I don’t know how I would have passed the time living in a condo off Peachtree. I guess city parents take their kids to the park. Ardmore Park is a wonderful outlet for family bonding time per the playgrounds, pathways and open fields. In my early twenties I played catch there with a colleague during my lunch break. Leaving the office and returning in his Jeep ignited office gossip. Seriously, all we did was throw a baseball. That’s how I got grass stains on my white pedal pushers.

I just discovered the gorgeous walk path and enhancements to Ardmore Park yesterday! I can’t wait to take Big over there. Ardmore Park has been around ages — it’s on Collier, past 28th but before you get to Howell Mill — and it spans over to Peachtree on the backside. But the cool thing I just learned is that there’s a walking trail that’s been installed(they even have«lane markers» if you’re a biker!), a covered bridge that’s super cool, tons of grassy areas if you have dogs that need to «run,» and two really great playground setups. Picnic tables and all come with the cool playground areas. The neighborhood association( ) does a great job maintaining things and there’s lots of useful info on their site. This is a seriously pretty area and one that might steal my heart from Memorial or Chastain!
