I go to Alon’s when I want to treat myself. As a gourmet grocery store, it’s an easy place to grab-and-go. The Neapolitan is one of the best desserts that I’ve ever had. I literally dream about it’s creamy and flakey layers. Such contrast of textures was made for the gods. I’m not kidding. And if you are overwhelmed by the options are the deli, I always go with the French Connection Salad with its spiced pears that give the salad its unique flare.

Alon’s has always been a treat — I love this place — the owner when she is available is super helpful. I get fresh baked breads and pastries here on occasion. I have one issue. When you get to the register the process they put you thru is SUPERQUICK… I mean there is a chance that you are shoving your credit card in your pants pocket instead of your wallet because the cashier is asking the person behind you can she start with ringing them out! Its quite intrusive and actually spoiled my fun when leaving the environment. It also helped me forget the other things I wanted to ask while completing my purchase. I was ok with it, but I guess i have to learn to slow things down when I am being served. The cookies the have behind the glass window are insanely delicious! Try the pecan and chocolate chip or the wedding cookies. They are rich with flavor but the taste will keep you in a trance.

Who baked their eclairs absolutely no taste. If they can win awards, we would own the world. Hopefully they partake of the eclairs, which are tasteless! Someone who has tastebuds need to try them. Too bad:(

Went to both locations — Dunwoody & Kirkwood. Love both locations for their sandwiches and their venue that allow dogs. Their sandwiches were delish and fulfilling. Coffee is good at both locations too. Will come here more often. We were at Kirkwood on a Saturday morning and a bonus was there was a weekend flea market across the street. Nice for a stroll after a full meal.

Went in here for a quick browse and coffee break. Didn’t expect to see such a variety of goodies: baked items, coffee, desserts, cheeses, and even deli items and quickie sides ready to order. There were a few places to sit both inside and outside, but this is more of a quick little bakery market. There was a constant stream of folks stopping at the bakery end and grabbing a variety of things. The gruyère scone and large iced coffee was a perfect mini dessert grab for the bf and me. Oh. You pay at the cash register at the opposite end of the bakery side.

Alon’s is a bakery market in Atlanta(I frequent the Highlands location, although I know there is another one) that offers sandwiches, soups, sides, as well as kitchen/cooking goods! I always want to buy everything in the store — mini preservatives, treats, spices, etc. Their food is always tasty and satisfying, without being too heavy. Try their sandwiches! The bread they use are in-house, baked fresh daily; they roast the meat themselves — really great. I really love the peppered turkey and roast beef sandwich, but I’m excited to return and try more options. If you’re looking to grab something quickly, they also have a station at front with sides, small entrees or desserts already prepared; you can just ask them to pack it up and you’re good to go! Would be a great stop before a picnic or to take back home for a meal with family/friends. Charming place! Not many seats available inside, but there are a few tables outside as well that’d be perfect on nice-weather days. Try this place out!

I came here to meet a friend for lunch. There’s a private parking lot but availability of parking can vary. It was pretty busy when I got here, but people generally come to pick up something quick and leave. When you order, they always pack it as a take-out and you pay at the pay station with what you ordered. If you’re planning on dining in, there is only a small corner with tables and chairs by their pastry station. There is a good variety of food options here: salad, sandwich, soup, pastry, etc. I ended up ordering the mushroom and fontina and eggplant bruschetta($ 2.99 each). Unfortunately, they don’t heat food up for you here(more reason to take home). I also got a small chicken gumbo soup($ 3.99). They had four or five different soup selections which was nice. After lunch, I wanted to get some dessert. Everything looked amazing but I ended up getting some macarons($ 1.99 each). I got the pistachio, Black currant, and apricot lavender. I really like this place. It’s super cute, with lots of great food options, and delicious desserts. The only downside is some of their things aren’t labeled(didn’t know how much I was paying for my soup and macarons till I was at the cashier). Everything is also bit more pricey.

Got the crème brûlée to go, and it was amazing. Everything looked delicious and fresh, especially the prepared foods. Will be going back for sure to try other items. I loved how they carried so many local specialty groceries.

Alon’s is located in Virginia Highlands, making it quite a busy place around lunchtime. The parking lot is somewhat small and can get pretty cramped, but I think you can also park in the lot in front of Yoforia. This place has everything you could ever want — sandwiches, soups, salads, croissants, macarons, cakes, baguettes, King of Pops, coffee, and a billion other things. However, I always get the smoked pepper turkey sandwich(turkey, avocado, tomato, onion + sprouts) on focaccia bread every single time I come here, which is absolutely perfect. The soups here vary daily, but all of the ones I’ve had(beef brunswick, tomato basil, lentil) have been amazingly hearty. I took off a star primarily because of the price — it’s $ 10 for the sandwich, which doesn’t come with chips or any other side. I believe it’s also +$ 1 if you want your sandwich grilled, which is usually free of charge at any other café. However, since I enjoy sandwiches infinitely more when they’re warm, I always make sure to get it grilled. Regardless of the slightly higher prices, Alon’s uses fresh ingredients and gives off a lovely charm. It’s a great place to pick up pastries, fresh bread, or even a meal for later from their prepared foods section. Make sure you order in the deli area and then go over to pay at the register in the prepared foods section.

My favorite place in Atlanta has gotta be Alon’s. I’ve been to the Alon’s in Dunwoody so many times I can’t keep track. The Dunwoody Alon’s is perfect in too many ways. The Alon’s in the Highlands is classic. I stopped in to grab a few desserts for a dinner party. There weren’t too many dessert options, other than pastries and cakes, although I did notice some Honeysuckle Gelato and King of Pops in a freezer after I’d made my purchase. In lieu of one large cake, I decided to get an assortment of five various desserts, which ended up costing me between $ 20 – 25. Each dessert was cute and tasty, each better than the next. Parking here is a small pain, but at least there is a private parking lot, although it is shared with a couple other shops. There isn’t much of a seating area to lounge about with your food, so most people here were grabbing food on the go. This is probably one of the biggest differences between this location versus the Dunwoody location. I found myself slowly enjoying a latte and dessert or a sandwich and a glass of wine in Dunwoody, while I took my latte and dessert assortment to go in the Highlands. I can’t complain, though. Those desserts were bomb.

I checked out Alon’s this weekend. Everything looked really good from the sandwiches to the pastries, cakes and entrees. However, I wanted to try the pepper turkey sandwich I saw so many posts about! It was a very fresh sandwich, they did not scrimp at all. The only thing I can say was, I thought it needed a bit more flavor or a kick. The mustard was mild, the pepper turkey didn’t have a kick, but was still good. Next time I might add some spice to it! My other only other complaint would be the price. I got a bag of chips and a sandwich that rang up to just under $ 13 bucks… Kinda pricey for that. Other than that, it was a great deli sandwich and I will be back to try more!

If I had to guess the meaning of the name«Alon,» my guess would be «super sexy hotness.» Their fresh baked breads, crispy pastries, high-end cheeses, and fresh deli options make me want to visit every day, and I’m sad that my fiancée and I didn’t find a condo or apartment closer to this Atlanta institution. ***** I. FOOD&DRINK Alon’s has combines patisserie, coffee shop, deli, wine cellar, and store(selling everything ideal for different kinds of spreads). While I haven’t had the time, or budget, to peruse through everything they have, I did get down with a few of their desserts. I recommend the following: *Macaroons: salted caramel, blueberry, lemon, etc… each flavor they have is pretty bomb. They’re perfectly airy and not too sweet. They have boxes for eight and sixteen. Note: Careful if you have a tree nut allergy, though, since they most macaroons use almond flour. *Crème Brûlée: Dear, God. Mind-blowing. The crème itself is silky smooth, and it has a nice thickness to it. The burned caramel on top also tastes fantastic. When my fiancée asked, for the last bite of mine, I pretended to give her a spoonful, curled my arm, and ate it myself. She cursed at me.(YOLO. lol! Just kidding. I never write or say that ridiculous word. Well, I guess for now.) *Apricot Custard Danish: This beautifully baked, square pastry has a spread of custard and slices of apricot in the middle. Prior to trying it, my boo-thang and I got in a fight, and eating this both made us forgive each other. Who knew a Danish could resolve arguments like Dr. Phil? *Fruit Pie: This one is a throwback to my childhood. It’s a flat(maybe quarter inch tall?) pie made with a nice butter crust and not-too-sweet custard. It’s topped with kiwis, strawberries, blueberries, and probably other fruit that I’m forgetting. So, tasty. Other highlights: They simply have too many goodies, for me to describe. So, I’ll just list a few more that I love: –Iced Americano –Baguette –Tuna salad II. SERVICE Very polite, friendly, and fast. Their staff is very well-trained. And, I’ve never had a problem on super busy days. III. ATMOSPHERE/DÉCOR Imagine a really long hotdog shaped room filled with everything delicious. They have seating at one end of the hotdog, too. lol. IV. PRICES Pretty expensive goods, but that’s the premium you’ll have to pay for the best baked goods I’ve had in the ATL. V. OVERALL I really love Alon’s, and my only regret is not visiting here earlier.

An Atlanta institution… for a reason. Between the cheese selection, bakery, breakfast sandwiches or the hard-to-find artisan items not available elsewhere, Alon’s is amazing. The parking lot deserved a separate one star, but I don’t know how they’d improve it. I’ve had a bunch of near-misses in the lot, so be careful! Their bagels could be better, but that’s just a little quibble. Their $ 17 Rolls Royce jellies are hilarious, but also worth an occasional splurge. I guess when you blend Chardonnay with a jelly you have the right to charge whatever you want. :D All in all, love this place.

Overall 4.5÷5(rounded up due to the amazing dessert) Food 5⁄5 Price 4.5÷5 Service 5⁄5 Atmosphere 3.5÷5 Nutshell: The dessert pastries are to die for — not sure about the other food. Small parking. Cute small place. Food: Got the crème brule and macarons. The crème brûlée’s hard sugar top was not burnt, not too hard and not too thick. It had a radius of about 6−7cm. The actual custard itself was perfectly rich and was more on the runny side(I prefer mine a bit thicker). Nonetheless, its the besting tasting crème brûlée ive had in all of ATL. Macarons: Passionfruit, Chocolate, Mocha and Carmel. Each had the right cookie to filling ration. The cookie itself was crisp on the outside and soft/moist on the inside. The fillings each were perfectly balanced with either sweet and acidic notes, sweet and gentle bitterness or sweet and absolute richness. What I appreciated was the macron/cookie itself had different flavor bases which truly made each flavor unique. Commonly, a lot of shops use the same base and just dye it differently. Probably the top 2 macron places in ATL. Price: Brulee was 4 and each macron was 2. Prices were pretty fair given the quality. However they dont offer cheaper prices if you buy more than ½ or dozen macrons which other places usually do. Service: The cashier was friendly and professional. Atmosphere: Small parking lot. Inside is a bit small and cramped with limited seating. Interior is old but you can tell its well cleaned and maintained.

Hands down, THE best place for a decent dessert. This morningside bakery is very crowded. Well, I’m not that surprised considering how good they are. Here you get bakeries, salads, delis and more. The selection was not as good as the Sandy Spring one, but it still has the magic for cakes. I ordered Opera Cake simply because it looked so nice and delicate. So were many other cakes. When I took it home and sipped coffee with it, it tastes like heaven. More than 5 layers inside, some chocolaty, and some cakey. Compared to White Windmill, Alon’s is of reasonable prices and better price. I’ll go back and try more stuff.

Nomnomnom. Worked catered from Alon’s for lunch. We had an assortment of sandwiches with a side of salad and chips. I opted for the roast beef sandwich. There was a pretty generous portion of meat. I like my meat medium rare, so they cooked it pretty well. I also appreciate that they didn’t put too much or too little sauce. The only sad part is that we didn’t cater any desserts, which might be a good thing since I’d probably eat it all, given my sweet tooth. I’ll definitely drop by the store to check out their dessert section.

Neighborhood french deli/coffee place. I had the poppy Danish with raisins and nuts. Really good pastry, glad I didn’t notice the raisins or I would’ve skipped it. With the amount of customers suffering from allergies, I’d recommend signage warning about the presence of nuts. The boyf got an egg/cheese/turkey bacon sandwich on a ciabatta with a side of potato salad and a lemonade. My Danish was around $ 3, his meal around $ 15. They’ve got wine, cheeses, prepared foods and gifts. Not clear where to order at first as all the stations are separate and all the workers are busy. You order first at each spot then go to checkout to pay and wait for your orders to be ready. Imagine a bakery counter plus the prepared foods section and whole foods and there you have Alon’s.

This is probably my second favorite sandwich shop and bakery in Atlanta. My favorite is Star Provisions. On the whole the Dunwoody location is more user friendly — more parking, more seating, however this one is more convenient to get to. What I liked: 1) Sandwiches are superb. I highly recommend the Asian-style salmon sandwich, the rosemary-lamb foccacia, and the grilled cheese paninis. 2) There are a lot of good things behind the deli counter — crab cake, salmon cake, lamb spring roll, and other things. 3) Cakes are very good — they can also bake things to order. They made a Black Forest Gâteau to order for my birthday and it was good — although not authentic — but still quite tasty. Also the Macarons are superb. What could be better: 1) They do not heat up the deli counter items for you but provide a microwave and give you no instructions. The microwave is old and dirty. I think this is pretty ridiculous to be honest. Star Provisions will heat up any item you purchase — that is a minimum service level at the prices these guys charge. 2) Very hard to find parking 3) Very hard to find seating 4) Can be long lines at lunch time

Love going to Alon’s for a cup of latte and a pastry. I prefer the dunwoody location but since I am close to the highland location I come here more often. Their latte is good. I haven’t tried all of their pastries but poppy seed Danish is yum. I remember getting their fruit cake during the holidays and it was out of this world. Tried their almond macaroon today and I think it’s over rated. It was very sweet. I didn’t like it. Dunwoody location is bigger and better. Parking at highland location is a PITA and so is finding seat inside. Most of the times i end up drinking coffee In my car because there is no place to sit inside.

Alon’s bakery/deli/fromagerie/store has an amazing array of gourmet, imported, and freshly prepared items. Let me start out by saying that the macarons here rival those from the famous Ladurée of Paris. I especially enjoyed the black current, chocolate, and my favourite — the almond(Marzipan) macaron. If you order sets of 9, they can be arranged in a really classy, black presentation box(at no extra charge, as of this review.) We love the chocolate chunk pecan cookies, the wedding cookies, and the various pastries that we have tried from here so far. If you’re a lover of fine chocolate that is not overly sweet, the chocolate mousse«cake» is dangerously addictive! The selection in the cheese case here is incredible. I really wish that they had a staff person just to cover this area, because it can be a little more than overwhelming for someone who isn’t a cheese expert, and might need help finding just the right cheese. We haven’t actually purchased cheese from here yet, but I’m more than sure that we will soon. I was so excited to find the Harney & Sons Capsules(K Cup) teas here! I got the box of Paris flavoured tea, and it is THEBEST tea I’ve ever had from my Kurig! Strong, and really lovely. I really wish that Alon’s would carry more of a variety of these teas. The service here is always very friendly, and efficient. The store is clean, and always really well stocked with what they do carry. We can’t seem to walk out of here without spending a good amount of money, mostly because the majority of the items here are«premium», and carry with them a «premium» price tag. Finding parking in the lot here can be bad so, we always leave the car where we eat lunch, and just walk over.
