Steak ‘n Shake

Meh. Not worth the hype or the wait. Tiny fries were cold, service was lack luster, and Royale Burger didn’t really even taste like anything. There are better burgers elsewhere.

Being so generous to even leave that second star right now. 24 hour should mean, providing the same quality service all 24 hours of the day. Went thru the drive thru and I saw the manager pick up a chunk of ice with his hand and put it in my cup. Disgusting!!! Like come on now, that’s not even close to sanitary. Service is a bit better during the day, but honestly quite let down at this point. Save your money or take it to a local business.

Near the house so thought we’d try it … Wasted our money. Extremely disorganized — they have a lot of people on the shift, but only a few working (the women making the sandwiches).
Poor quality food: jalapeño burger and foot long; plain cheeseburger. Soggy bun. Lukewarm food. Just not tasty. Fries: meh.
Got our drink order wrong.
Went thru the drive thru: 25 minutes!
Why do people visit this place?

A gem here in Athens. There was nothing impersonal or disinterested about the service we received. A thorough delight!

I love Steak n’ Shake. But this location brings shame to the company. I have been sitting here for an hour waiting for my food after waiting ten minutes to be seated in an absolutely empty restaurant. I understand, I came at a late time so I expected maybe a little bit of a longer wait time because of the lesser amount of staff but this is just ridiculous. When the food finally came out, after I stared at it sitting on the counter for 7 minutes, it was fair at best. The most infuriating part of this experience was that the waiting staff never once apologized for the insanely long wait. I won’t be coming back anytime soon, but maybe it is just the night shift.

I wish I could rate this place zero. They took around an hour to serve us uncooked food. Food was too raw for me to eat. Even the coffee was served cold. Waitress doesn’t even care. The worst service and food. Never going here.

I have never reviewed anything on Unilocal so far because I am super lazy to write something. However, after coming here, I feel super compelled to write my first Unilocal review for anything. If I had an option, I would rate this place a negative 5 stars. The service was the most horrible I had in my entire life. The waitress messed up our order three times. She wasn’t even willing to stop and listen to the fact that our order had been messed up. We waited for 45 mts to get coffee and another 30 minutes to get cream for the coffee by the time the coffee had got cold.

We love Steak and Shake and eat it often. But this is by far the worst one we’ve been to. The chili was watery last time we visited and our bottom buns of the burgers were soggy with grease.
This location is consistently bad.

Not talking once I’m talking every time we go in. It’s imposable to describe how slow dirty and disorganized this restaurant (if you can call it that) is. The last straw was when I saw the manager push out a dirty garbage can wearing his food service gloves then without changing gloves begin laying slices of cheese on the burgers … This place us a major health violation !

I’m here right now. I’ve been waiting for about 30 minutes. Employees are standing around talking, not working. I’ve been here before, and it wasn’t that great. Service was slow. But I figured I’d give it another chance. BAD CHOICE. If you’re hungry, don’t come here.

Service was absolutely horrible. Waited 45 mins for water and did not receive the shakes we ordered. Server had a horrible attitude. Also they have a 76 for there food health grade. Steer clear.

Food is good. Service is horrible. Waited for seating, then 30 minutes for waitress to take drink order. Food order was even longer. It took longer to order the food than to eat it. Not impressed.

Well this steak and shake is off my list. I placed an online order with them and was told it would be 15 min so i gave them 25 min in case they were busy. i should have gave them 2 hours! but that wouldn’t have helped the order never came through at all !! They offered to make my order then, but since i was at work and didn’t have the time to wait, my only option was to go hungry for the night (all work and no food make mac a dull boy) as much as i like steak and shake i’m going to have to write this one off. to bad it would have been alot of repeat buisiness for them now its no buisiness from me at least !!

Stopped by the Steak and Shake in Athens, GA to get quick meal. Kind of busy when we walked in. We were the 3^rd group to put our name on the wait list. As we stood there waiting for our table I was shocked by the servers lack of motivation. I watch more than one server come get their tip money off the table and not even help clean their table. What shocked me even more was the dingy, wrinkled shirts half of the staff wore. It looked like they haven’t washed their shirts in about a week. So finally we got a table and ordered our food a couple of burgers and chili dogs. Our ticket says our order was entered at 6:52 pm. It was 7:20 before our food hit the table. After almost 30 minutes and our order didn’t even come out correctly. One dog was supposed to be a foot long and my Western BBQ burger was lacking BBQ sauce. My chili dog was cold. I was less than impressed with the operation, service and food this restaurant. At least the manager did come out long enough to silence the man at the bar who was obnoxious!

After a long night I stopped here for a quick run through the drive thru around 6am but sat and sat and sat. Finally I parked and went into the restaurant to find it took the staff a couple of minutes to acknowledge me at the to-​go counter. Know that if you come at odd hours you’re going to have to work for your meal.

Stopped in on a Sunday night for a meal. Even though the place was busy our group didn’t have to wait for a table. The host was nice and friendly and seated us quickly. Our server was great and kept our drinks full and checked on us frequently too. The food was very good and came out fast. At the end of the meal I stopped by the restroom (very clean) and when I entered one of the cooks was using the urinal. He finished, flushed, and walked out WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS. I don’t care if he washed them when he got to the kitchen or not. In front of customers they (as well as anyone honestly) should wash their hands. I’m glad I had already finished my meal because I wouldn’t have been able to after that.

Fast food with great quality. Friendly wait staff and quick with service. Food hot. Seldom ever have to wait. Convenient location.

Average burgers, below-​average shakes, above-​average service. That means an average experience.
