Great food and great service. Nice people and a great time. We got our food in good time

Something has happened… I used to eat here weekly. Lately the bbq has been stringy and too wet. I’m tapering off my visits here, not special anymore. Again something has happened, new cooks I dont know, but the bbq has become less than average… And thats what you’re supposed to go for.

We tried Harry’s BBQ last year and really enjoyed it. We went back again tonight expecting more greatness, but we were very disappointed in the service and food. Service was abysmal. The staff was very nice, but slower than anything I’ve ever seen. The place is seat yourself and it took about 10 minutes for anyone to bring us menus. Once we ordered, it took 15 minutes for the server to tell me they were out of my item(no biggie being out, but it shouldn’t take 15 minutes to realize that). At about the hour mark the couple that came in 15 minutes after us were already being delivered their food. We were really getting hungry and remembered the delicious dry-rub popcorn they gave for free last time. I got our server to bring us some to tide us over. Our meal for two people took 2 hours from sitting down to finally leaving. My partner spent about 45 minutes with an empty glass and no sight of the waitress at all. I understand there are always staffing issues, but given how few people were in the restaurant this was unforgivable. From last year, I remembered splitting with my partner a delicious pork BBQ sandwich, tofu BBQ sandwich, and sweet potato fries and being very full after leaving. This time though, we split the JohnWayne burger with their«hash»(actually brunswick stew) and a pulled pork plate with beets and potato salad. My medium-rare burger was delivered well-done. I did not dare ask for a new one after waiting an hour for the burger in the first place. The pickled onions and jalapenos on the burger were almost tasteless; drenching it with their sweet onion sauce made it edible though. The«hash»(brunsick stew) was lukewarm at best and very bland. My partner’s pulled pork was fine, but nothing anyone couldn’t do at home. The beets were just beets and the potato salad was downright awful. The portions were the worst part though. The«hash» was a «Premium Side» that cost a whopping $ 2.75 for a sauce cup halfway filled with the stuff. I literally mean the cup restaurants give you ketchup and condiments in was halfway filled with this mediocre stew and they had the audacity to charge almost $ 3 for it(maaybe 2 spoonfuls). The other sides were the same size but were included with the pulled pork plate. I have no problem spending $ 10−20−30−40 on a tiny dish as long as it excites my tastebuds or is creative. We were really hoping to enjoy this place again, but could not get over the quality of the place now. I’m not sure if it is under new ownership or what, but I can safely say we will be sticking to White Tiger and Pulaski for BBQ in Athens from now on.

I wish I could say this was the BESTBBQ I have ever eaten in Athens, GA but I can say it’s the ONLYBBQ I have ever eaten in Athens, GA… it just wasn’t that great… it was UMmmmmm Okay!!! We were on a road trip from Savannah back to Nashville and starving to death… I put BBQ into my app and this was the closest location to where we were at the time… so winner winner chicken dinner… but in this case BBQ Pork winner !!! It was tender, but the sauces was just not the best. I tried several of them but again, not the best… they water their sauces down to make them stretch and save money I would assume. I would assume that is why anyone do that. I like my sauces thick… thick…thick and tasty… to me the finger licking part of the experience is what makes the BBQ delicious… but there was NONE of that with this BBQ… the sauce was too runny and drippy… just a big let down for me personally. We also had the smoked hot wings, they were okay but a little dry for my taste so we dripped them in the watered down sauces… the sweet tea was good! I will have say that was a big plus on a hot day. The beer selection was typical so at least Tony could get a Budweiser. I also ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes… now they were good. the tomatoes was a little SOUR to the taste but my husband swears that is «the way green tomatoes are suppose to taste»…now I have many a green tomato in my days and yes some are Sour but I have many that was NOT… but the breading was good. and the sauce for the Fried Green Tomatoes was okay but I would have preferred some plain Ranch over that sauce of BBQ rémoulade…it was sort of weird tasting to me but I would order the Fried Green Tomatoes again. I would just get Ranch on the side instead… We also ordered the PORK&SCALLIONWONTONS Four hand-wrapped fried wonton rolls filled with scallions and our freshly ground sesame teriyaki pork, served with a sweet chili sauce. they were okay just a little dry… but I would order it again. I enjoyed the sweet dipping sauces sort of Asian style tasting… If I was in Athens again. I would honestly Not eat here again. but that is because there are many places to choose from. we were just starving and had been on the road for awhile on our way home to Nashville, TN from Savannah, GA… but I don’t say to you NOT to eat here. I say EATHERE, write your review and let us know your experience. that is what is so Wonderful about Unilocal… everyone sharing their opinions and experiences.

I finally tried Harry’s recently after reading several positive reviews, but I was less than impressed. I love the brisket at Pulaski Heights BBQ, but they only make it on Fridays and sometimes Saturdays. I saw that Harry’s had brisket so I decided to give it a chance. I’m not sure if it’s because it isn’t a commonly ordered item on the menu so they don’t make it often, but the brisket was old and rubbery. The baked beans were fine, but the mac and cheese had a weird taste to it that I couldn’t pinpoint – and I’m not picky about my mac and cheese either. To say the least, I’ll be sticking to Pulaski Heights for BBQ in Athens from now on.

Yesterday(10−2−13), I had a craving for BBQ after seeing some online. I decided to try Harry’s since I’ve been wanting to go for a while. Well, I went on their website and looked at the menu and the prices. IMO, some of the prices were reasonable and some were not. The plates were reasonable(so I thought), so I decided on a pork plate w/2 sides. Well, the menu said one price which was $ 8, so it would’ve been $ 8.56 w/tax. Well after I placed my order over the phone it was told my total was $ 9.35…whoa, wait a minute, really? I did ask for an extra slice of bread, but, to charge $ 0.79 for 1 slice of bread is RIDICULOUS!!! I was tempted to cancel my order right then, but decided to go ahead a get it. When I got there, I was taken aback. When I walked in the door, there was a spill of oil on the floor by one of the machines. Someone was in the process of cleaning it up though, but for my 1st impression, it was kinda tainted. Also, the other thing that tainted my impression, and the reason why I gave only 3 stars, was the health score… wait for it… an impressive(NOT) 87!!! WTH! I’m not too keen on places w/a health score below a 90! Oh well, it was too late b/c I didn’t see it until I had already gotten my food and was walking out the door. C’mon Harry’s, get your«weight» up! On a positive note, the food was DELICIOUS! I had pork, mac n cheese, and squash casserole(«off the chain» good). Both of the sides really took me by SURPRISE! I mos. def. wasn’t expecting either one of them to taste that good! OMG, I’m sold on their mac n squash! I will say this though, I prob. won’t be going back until they get their health score up to par!

I love this place. I waited a long time to try it because I just(wrongly) assumed they had nothing for vegetarians. I was wrong! Harry’s offers a meat-free version of most things on the menu, including sliders, bbq plates, even nachos and quesadillas. You can get any of those things with tofu, and they also have veggie burgers and veggie dogs, and a handful of meat-free sides. I always get the bbq tofu nachos — they are my absolute favorite and the portion is SO huge I can usually take enough home for a second meal. They also have incredible fries(regular and sweet potato), fried green tomatoes, mac n cheese, and squash casserole. The salads are even pretty good, which for a bbq joint, is saying something. We usually go for lunch and the wait staff are always super friendly and helpful. Nice, laid back atmosphere and decent prices.

I suppose I should have tried the BBQ, but I was in the mood for chicken salad. The sandwich is served on a grilled croissant, which was the best part, but other than that the sandwich was very bland and not worth the price. The potato salad with bacon and scallions was surprisingly bad seeing as they tout it as ‘the best you’ve ever had’. The fries were soggy and under salted. Very unimpressed after all of these other positive reviews.

I took my son to eat at Harry’s during a break in his soccer tournament. Neither of us had been to Harry’s and were very excited as we are BBQ fiends. Alas, we weren’t granted the honor of having their BBQ today on 8⁄17. We sat down at 1:22 and at 2:22 I promptly offered to pay for my beer, the one thing I did receive, and then left with my son. Neither of our orders arrived and neither did his drink in that entire period of time. I’ve heard great things about Harry’s but I won’t be trying my luck in the«will I receive my food or not» lottery again. I’m writing this from a nearby taco restaurant that managed to get us drinks, chips an appetizer and take our order in under 5 minutes. Note to Harry’s, you should visit this restaurant and take notes.

Enjoyed the hash, Mac and cheese was average, sampler plate was the main event and there was more than enough to fill me up. The chicken was above average, the pork and ribs were on par and the brisket was a little dry. Add it all up and it equals good quality BBQ. Lets be honest, there’s three kinds of BBQ, OMG incredible BBQ, good BBQ and horrible BBQ. This was good.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Talk about some fantastic bbq. My wife had the salad with brisket, whatever… I had the Brisket Plate, talk about awesome. The fries were shoestring but good, the hash was awesome. The brisket was perfect, juicy, flavorful, with just a little marbling on top for great flavor. The sauces are crazy awesome, they have like 6 of them ranging from Sweet Vidalia Onion to some kind of mustard sauce that was fantastic. Cool atmosphere with microbrew drafts and unique sodas.

Trying to hit as many BBQ places during my two week stay in Athens. Harry’s was recommended by a local co worker as the best BBQ in Athens. While it was good, not the best in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong, the pulled pork was great, but the bread and sauces were not what I was expecting. I wouldn’t shy away from this place, but it wouldn’t be my first choice when returning to Athens. If you do stop in order some of their popcorn… Then add a chicken rub seasoning that complements the popcorn well. Unique item that is fun to try.

I have wanted to try Harry’s for some time now, but for some reason or another just haven’t gotten around to it. My wife and I went for dinner and sat on the patio out in front of the restaurant. There is very limited seating inside, so if it bothers you to sit outside then make sure they are not busy if you want a table. We started off our meal with the smoked chicken wings. OMG!!! I can’t express to you how good they were. The smoky taste along with the slight sweetness of the wing sauce had us devouring them quickly. The wings come whole, so an order of 4 is plenty for a couple. You have to try these, it’s a must. For our en tree’s we both got the sampler platter. It was quite a bit of food, but it gave us a sampling of each of there meats. You get smoked pork, beef, chicken and ribs along with some great fries. They have six different sauces you can put on your meat or just eat it plain. Slightly pricey for a BBQ place, but I will definitely be back for some of there great food.

Finally some great Athens BBQ. I had the pork plate with French fries and squash casserole. The fries were surprisingly good and the squash casserole was fantastic. The BBQ pork was great also, and actually smoked unlike some other places. They also serve the locally roasted 1000 faces coffee. This will be my BBQ place in Athens from here on out.

Been to Harry’s several times and enjoyed the food – not sure what happened just recently. Came in to eat and place a catering order – food was extremely bland, not what I had experienced on prior visits. Service was excellent, though. I did change my mind about placing a catering order as I could not chance hosting a work lunch and it turn out to be mediocre at best. Went to their website to get some feedback, but they don’t leave contact info. That’s pretty weak too as they should allow their customers to provide feedback. Anyway, first few times were good, but something is not consistent with this place.

One of the best BBQ places I’ve been to. They hands down have the BEST sweet potato fries. It comes with this sauce that blows my mind everytime. Their pork tenderloin sliders are really great but a bit expensive for the little you get. Their bread pudding is one of the most epic items on their menu. It is the perfect end to any meal!

Best ribs I have had at a restaurant! Great sides too… I recommend the beets, squash casserole, and hash(which is more like a Brunswick stew) but truly, they are all good. We never get out for $ 10 a person but usually because we order an app. or extra side… it is so good! Good portion size and great staff.

While I do love bbq, I don’t often crave it. When I do decide to indulge my bbq fantasies I opt for White Tiger(which is within walking distance for me and guaranteed delish) or Harry’s Pig Shop. To be quite honest, the best thing I’ve tried here are the little pork tenderloin sliders. Man, are they tasty! Good sweet potatoes. I’m not a huge slaw fan but theirs isn’t terribly mayo-heavy so it’s okay by me. Great place for a casual dinner. They’ve got some seating out front which is nice on a sunny day. My only complaint: the beer selection could be larger. side note: the last time I was there the two servers were clearly in a tips competition. As each table of guests left the restaurant they would bus the table and alternately yell out in the dining area«I got five on it». I thought that was a bit strange.

AMAZING!!! And CHEAP!!! Always less than $ 10 a meal!!! I recommend that people order the sliders their first time in so they can sample the different bbq sauces from the rack on the table. Then, order the banana pudding for desert. Mmmmm!!! In a town full of BBQ Joints, Harry’s drops the pretense and serves delicious, well prepared bbq in a clean and modern setting.
