Be still my beating heart. I’m happy to report that the wonderful souls of Peaches Fine Foods and Charlie Williams have joined forces to open the end all be all soul food institution know as Camp. Camp is located in the Homewood Hills shopping center in the same building as the honey baked ham shop. Unlike most soul food places, Camp opens its doors on Sunday for lunch. I recently went with a friend who has gone every Sunday since their opening. The menu changes daily but you can expect to find fried chicken, fried fish, and some sort of baked chicken. They also have meat loaf, turkey and ham as well as other meats that rotate through. The sides are plentiful so take your pick. Some are cook to order like fried okra. The staff greeted my friend with hugs and made sure to ask where her mom was this Sunday afternoon. I mean come on, how great it that. We both couldn’t say no to the fried chicken and seasonal dressing with turkey gravy. For our regular sides I got squash casserole and green beans while my dinning companion opted for turnips and mac and cheese. The fried chicken is the best around. Its moist, not overly oily and has great flavor. They will be serving up dressing and gravy every day through the holidays so make sure you get a sample of it. Though all the sides are essentially perfect, we decided the squash casserole was our favorite. Each meal comes with cornbread or a biscuit. Cornbread is always going to win my vote. I recommend getting your meal in a to-go box because it would be near impossible to finish your meal there and trust me, you are going to want leftovers. The place itself isn’t anything special but the employees and food really are. Do yourself a favor and give camp a try– you will not be disappointed.

Rushed across town after church and arrived at 3:12 to find the doors locked and sign on door with NEW hours… Closing @3:00… BUMMER!!! Happy Fathrs Day … Waited all week for his favorite Fried catfish… Knocked on door and employee said«sorry»,… I agree… «Very Sorry»!

Great home cooked food. They have a new cook and everything I had was delicious! Tried it a couple weeks ago and have already returned twice. Give it a try…

first visit to the camp restaurant in homewood hills shopping center. wanted to order smoked chicken which is on the menu, but they did not have any this day. so I ordered the catfish fillet sandwich and fries. the crinkle fries were fresh and not greasy. the sandwich was just OK. the portion of fried catfish was very small. for $ 8.50 incl tax it was not worth it.
