Brenen’s Coffee Cafe

The food here is overpriced and the staff is not that friendly. They have a nice atmosphere but can update some things. For instance, the Gatorade container for water looks out of place and cheap.

Nice deli, a good selection of sandwiches. Nice vibe, friendly staff.

Brenen’s Café… A great number of choices on the menu. Sandwiches and soups at a reasonable price. A fine addition to Athens.

This is a very nice café for Athens to have available! Overpriced, yes. I paid 10 dollars for a sandwich and some fruit (which is wayyyy too much)… But it was a good sandwich! They have a lot of variety on sandwich’s, soups, and coffee drinks. Brenen’s also has a few different salad options! You CAN eat vegan here, with a good mixture of sandwich items! I did enjoy Brenen’s but I cannot say that it’s the best ever.

My partner and I recently visited Athens, as they are going to be an OU student this fall. We decided to eat at Brenen’s on recommendation from an OU student. It was very good! I got a pesto panini and baked Lays. I will definitely go back when we move to Athens.

One of the other reviewers says they have no vegetarian sandwiches… They do have a couple. The sandwiches are okay, I’d rather eat them then Subway. Its major boon is that there’s always a lot of seating and light, so it’s a decent place to do work, but it’s in a city of places like that.

It has a pretty friendly atmosphere, but that’s really the best I can say. I’ve never had a specialty drink made properly-​once a manager told an employee to make one without the key ingredient because they were out. I had her give me something else. The regular coffee is fine, but I’d rather go across the street to get the same/​better coffee from Whit’s for less money.
The sandwiches are underwhelming and usually made sloppily. There are no vegetarian options, which is extremely unusual in Athens.
Everyone seems to love this place, but despite multiple visits I can’t see the allure.

Came in for a quick drink. Ordered a café americano. I was quick to be served but the employee seemed new and didn’t know how to make the drink. What I received was a thin and burnt tasting americano with espresso grounds in the cup. I’ve been here many times and love the place but disappointed me today.
Next day went in for lunch and had my regular sandwich, #7Chicken Caesar. It was good as always.
Love the lunch there, but coffee is sometimes disappointing.

One of my favorite spots uptown. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, read The Post or The Athens News, and watch people walking along Court St.
They have a pastry counter, and coffee service at the front of the shop and a deli counter in back for soups and sandwiches.
They serve the best breakfast sandwich in Athens aside from Bagel Street. They offer a good cup of coffee for a great price and creative specialty espresso drinks. The pumpkin scone is delicious!
Brenen’s is a perfect spot to meet friends!

Awesome lunch spot. Their sandwiches are great and the iced chai is tops. I love getting a different chai every time I go.

This is undoubtably the best place in Athens for coffee and desert drinks (Yes, better than Donkey). Their Frozen Cappuccino and Frozen Hot Chocolate are to die for and their smoothies are delicious as well. Their sandwiches, however, are a bit overpriced for their small size, but their bread is very good. Also I love their huge blueberry muffins!

I found Brenen’s to be an awesome place to grab an early bite to eat. Their breakfast sandwiches, muffins and scones are all delicious! They have some interesting coffee drinks, including something called a «Milky Way» which is out of this world.
I agree with Brian K, in that it’s a great alternative to the library to get some work done. Usually they’re blasting some 90s nostalgia tunes. I mean seriously, when was the last time you went over your notes while listening to Sugar Ray?
Sadly, this place loses stars for their regular sandwiches. After having lunch here a few times I’ve never had one that’s particularly «wowed» me. Maybe I’ve just had poor luck, but every time I’ve ordered one the bread is either slightly stale or they’re drenched in too much dressing.

Coffee is a good alternative to Starbucks. You can have a seat while they prepare your order, which is quick and delicious. They specialize in small breakfast foods and sandwiches that are toasted to perfection. Also a great atmosphere to get work done in although sometimes hard to find the wireless internet connection.
