Athfest 2014 First time attending and sadly visiting on the lull of a Sunday afternoon. With that, I write this with a few noteworthy items that I could be simply ignorant of or with fact it being a Sunday. Mostly just disignated sitting areas. The few they had set up were for the children’s concert area or alcohol related. While there were benches, albeit often occupied, it was an odd inconvenience if you had bought any of the food from the vendors. Oh woe is me though. Haha. Overall, worthwhile festival to check out for local music and supporting local artists. Really hoped for a buncha food vendors, but it’s a Sunday so my fault for probably missing out. :)

Athfest was just so-so the time I went. There were some booths and some bands, but it wasn’t really much to shake a leg at. It felt like a watered down version of the Virginia-Highlands Festival, which was such a disappointment. It’s like going to a bar, ordering a top quality beer, and finding out the bartender filled half your glass with water. Perhaps I simply expected more from Athens? On the plus side, it IS Athens, so there was plenty of shops open to wander into and lots of fun young people out and about. The downtown area is very nice for such a party college town, and the music at the festival wasn’t too terrible either. Of course, I’d expect decent music from a place that spits out big names in the music industry like Octomom spits out kids. In the end, it’s interesting enough to make the drive from Atlanta at least once in your life to check it out. It might actually be your scene more than mine. Judging by the website, it sounds like it’s picked up a little more over the years in terms of artists and activities for the kiddies, so perhaps it’s worth another glance and a drive…
