Finding a reliable and affordable moving company is incredibly difficult. I had a devil of a time doing research. I looked through the Better Business Bureau, Google, and even specialty moving web sites without any real consistent information about companies. The national companies seemed incredibly overpriced. The local companies that I looked at in the DFW Metroplex just seemed shady or their quotes were too good to be true. The other problem is that Google reviews are filled with phony reviewers written by the moving companies themselves. If you look closely at some of them, it’s like no customer ever had a bad experience or gave anything less than a 5-​star review. Shady!
Finally, I threw up my hands in surrender and saw a moving truck across the street from me moving a neighbor into the neighborhood. That is how I came into contact with Athens Transfer & Storage. My new neighbor seemed to be happy with them, so I rolled the dice and gave them a call even though I had never heard of the company before.
I am so glad I did. The experience began with a professional phone call where they scheduled a time to do a walk through estimate. If you are moving, I strongly recommend an on site estimate as opposed to just getting an estimate over the phone. This way both you and the moving company are on the same page, and there is less of a chance of a misunderstanding. A lot of companies out there will give you a low ball estimate to secure your business, then start nickel and diming you once the moving team arrives. Before long the actual price is significantly more than the estimate.
Anyway, I got a very fair estimate to move fairly large house. It’s about 3500 square feet, and the moving distance was about 90 miles. Athens Moving and Storage arrived promptly. Every member of the team was extremely courteous. They made sure to take extra care of anything fragile. There was great organization and a clear method to how they packed my family’s belongings onto the truck. They initially estimated that it would take 2 days to complete the job — both loading from my old house to unloading our stuff at the new house. It was understandable. A national moving company told me the same thing. But imagine my surprise when the foreman of the team told me that if I didn’t mind, they could unload the truck the same day of the move! Of course, I agreed and the team once again carefully and efficiently unloaded our belongings. Not only that, but the team did a lot of ancillary tasks like disassembling and assembling my desk, two king size beds, my daughter’s bed, unhooked a washer and dryer without charging anything extra! Plus, the estimate that the national moving company gave me to do the same job was over double what I paid Athens Moving & Storage!
Again, in this day and age a reliable and affordable mover is tough to find. I feel I was extremely lucky to find Athens Moving & Storage. It truly was a diamond in the rough. They are professional, punctual, courteous, and efficient. Plus, they serve the entire DFW metro area. What more could you want? If I ever have to move again, I will call Athens Moving & Storage in a heart beat.
