I wish I could leave no stars. The good is bland and awful, not a large enough menu for my tastes, and we waited for 90 minutes for our food. Patrons who were seated after us were done and leaving before we got our food served to us! Hate this place… yuck

So this place should be hopping every night. Awesome location with a view of the riverfront park and Big Muddy. Beautiful interior and terrific patio seating. Cool lights that illuminate the building at night. Pretty good, if inconsistent, food. So what’s the matter? Management! These guys just don’t know how to run a restaurant. I’ve dined on nights when everything is clicking and it’s superb. Really nice menu and great tasting food. But it can be inconsistent. They run out of things a lot. The wait can be looooong… My biggest complaint, however, is that you can’t depend on them. I came here with friends for lunch on Sunday. Sign said they open at 11am. Still closed at 11:45. We went down the street to Paolucci’s. On another occasion we called to reserve a table for 11 on a weekday for a working lunch. Host said they couldn’t possibly accommodate us until 3pm. It’s such a shame, because this could and should be Atchison’s signature restaurant.

Beware of the Coconut & Tiger Shrimp! They serve roughly 6 pieces on a large dinner plate — I had to ask for a dipping sauce. Shrimp is not fresh or jumbo. Not worth the $ 12.99. The loaded baked potato is good. The tie art is confusing.

Top notch food and service. My wife and I stopped by the Amelia Earhart Museum and then decided to stop and eat here and are very glad we did. The honey butter and crescent rolls were delicious as was the main course.

Food was decent. But the service was horrible. Empty room and angry waitress says it will be 15 minutes angrily. She was very rude. Was given a rag to clean my own table and chairs. Not recommending to anyone. Used to be good when they first opened. Now I don’t think so.

Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. Great location nice view from patio. Terrible food and service. Spin dip chips were soggy and greasy. They tasted stale. Steak was way over cooked. Cheesy potatoes were literaly potatoes with like a nach cheese sauce that was cold and lone big lump. My salmon was also cooked beyond well done. Too bad because I liked the atmosphere. The food ruined the experience. Please don’t review this business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

This place just does not get it! Friday night during lent in a heavily Catholic town and they had no salmon! So, tilapia with broccoli was ordered. First, no salmon, then there was no broccoli! WTF? Finally managed to settle on something they did have. All of us ordered salads with our meal. Salads did not come and did not come. Finally, the entrees arrived and the salads showed up 5 min later. Double WTF! Both owners were there so there is just no way that they don’t know what is going on. Great location and they can’t figure out how to hire somebody that knows the restaurant business. This place is all but done for!

We went at a pretty slow time so there were only a few people in the restaurant and a few outside. The waiter was very attentive. Almost too much so. Although I think we were his last table and he was in more of a hurry to leave than we were. The food seemed to take awhile but the waiter kept us appraised of the delay and we weren’t in a rush. The crescent rolls were really good as something to tide us over. Even our picky 10 year old liked them. The food was good all the way around. Grilled cheese for kid, burgers for the rest of us. The price was appropriate and the quality was good. Next time we are in Atchison, we will definitely be back.

I’ve been here a handful of times and have carried-out a few times since it opened and it just keeps getting better and better. There are a few kinks here and there, but this is the sort of restaurant that Atchison needs and could stand on its own compared to Kansas City’s local, classy but casual restaurants. The main concern I had when the Pepper Mill opened this summer, and have heard from others, is food quality. However, since then, the food has improved leaps and bounds. I’m a fan of their chicken pot pie, pork tenderloin sandwich, chicken fried chicken, and butter croissants. Service is still a little slow but has gotten much better(we usually sit on the main level, but even considering that there’s a whole other level with lots of diners up there, I still think that service can speed up a bit). Servers are polite, professional, and have good knowledge of the menu, and they keep getting better in these areas with each visit. I felt that Pepper Mill turned the corner, for the better, after our last visit. I ordered a chicken fried chicken with side salad and twice baked potato. My chicken had a good amount of spice and was nice and crunchy without being greasy. The chicken was also tender and moist. My one issue was that the twice baked potato didn’t have as much potato filling as other ones – it looked like they took a baked potato, cut it in half, then added just a little bit of potato/cheese/bacon mixture from another potato(as opposed to scooping out the filling of the baked potato, making the mixture, then putting it back in the potato’s cavity). My husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger and enjoyed it. We ended the meal with a vanilla cake with lemon cream filling. The cake was light and played off nicely with the rich, lemon cream and raspberry sauce on the plate. Pepper Mill got a bit of a premature bad wrap after a rough opening. I hope that Atchison residents, college students, and their family and friends give it another chance. It really is a fantastic restaurant that fills a niche that Atchison has been missing: a non-fast food restaurant that is classy enough for an intimate dinner, casual enough for people to just walk in after shopping in town or visiting the kids at the college, and big enough to have a party, and to have every other occasion in between.

We had dinner there tonight and everything about the meal was perfect; the food was delicious, the service was terrific(our server was delightful & attentive & the other servers seemed equally great) and the interior is very attractive. We each ordered the tilapia entrée($ 11.99), which came with rice & shrimp and cole slaw(first we were given warm buttered croissants). For dessert we shared an order of apple bread pudding($ 3.99). Truly a memorable evening!

First, I was impressed by the cool layout and décor of this restaurant, especially the tie rack! Oh, and the fire tornado outside. The beautiful view and the cheerful, helpful staff. Food portions were generous and well prepared. Nice dessert selection! Reasonable prices. The owner and waiters are a class act. Make sure you have reservations on weekends! Next time I drive down from Wisconsin to enjoy dinner here, I will bring more friends. It was totally worth it and we had a great time.
